  1. I love the feeling of longevity and history that is heavy in the opening chapters, from the early descriptions of Bilbo, and his ancestry, through his recognition of Gandalf to the story the dwarfs bring with them. All family and deep seated history. :)

I adore Bilbo's battle between his manners and his fears. Gandalf is a canny wizard, and I love his approach to things with how he told the dwarfs that he had found them a burgular, but neglected to mention any of this to Bilbo.

  2. ^ Lordy, why?! Bill Nighy may have been good, but large parts of the rest of it were just so wrong! (Have you seen the BBC version? Okay, so it has rubbish effects and sets etc, but it is so much better as a story!).

It would have been a really fun film, had it not been an attempt at THGTTG. Visually is was pretty good, aside from Marvin who frankly looked ridiculous.

I adored the BBC version, because it rested solely on interpreting the books so was all about the words. When the story is that good, and the actors are into what they are doing it should be a perfect chemistry. :D

  3. I don't have any weird habits. But will develop some just so I can contribute.:D

I'm not too sure that I believe you CN....I dunno, I just get the feeling that you are as weird as the ret of us (possibly more so! :D). :D

  4. We have a very small bathroom and a big dog so that is certainly not a habit I have Erin! :D

Weird habit? The only one I can think of is that I always lay my car keys on the passenger seat, then pick them up again, start the car and go. I have absolutely no idea why. If someone is with me, I have to just throw them in my left hand and back again. ..............................:D

  5. I have read three; 'Never Let Me Go', a stunning book by Kazuo Ishiguro, and 'Lovely Bones', an unusual and startling book by Alice Sebold. The third is Lynne Truss' 'Eats, Shots And Leaves'. All three deserve a place on this list I feel.

I have another five of those listed here on my TBR pile. I will have to work my way through them to be able to say whether I agree with their inclusion.

  6. My favourite advert at the minute is the Birds Eye Fish Fingers advert, with the polar bear in the fridge. Genius! However, that polar bear is very sinister!!!

It's the musical notes that does it for me. That's what makes it so creepy. If you mute the ad the Polar Bear looks so sweet! :D

  7. Doesn't happen in croquet, I can tell you that.

Not the sober kind anyway! :D

I would have enjoyed hearing 'The Great Escape March' being played at the England Vs USA match the other evening.

Perhaps some vuvuzela teachers / players could be paid to get a proper tune happening from time to time. :D

  8. Erin, those are just lovely. :D Your first time seeing the ocean, how did that feel?

Pickle, that is the cutest photo. The best minds aren't too sure about what really took place at Stonehenge, so you might well be right! :D

  9. I thought that it might be time to revive this thread.

I have had the weirdest year so far with my reading. My mojo has been away on so many trips it stopped being funny months ago!

I have read some stunning books, then for many many weeks I have not been able to read more than a newspaper story without feeling my concentration and interest ebb away. I have felt a reading failure, and felt I had lost the one constant solace in life - a good book. ;)

I have committed myslef to reading 'The Hobbit'. It's a book I have previously read and enjoyed, but long enough ago for me not to remember too much of the detail. I am hoping that this will crack things.

Fellow lost Mojo sufferers ~ :smile2:

  10. Although I happily and definitely respect cultural aspects of other nations, is it the South Africans that are tooting/blasting them at the matches?

Bee hive is spot on. I did find I was a certain kind of weary by the end of the match because of the constant aural assault. But ban them? Not sure that we should or could.
