That's a tricky one to answer. I would say that if they are ones you desperately want to read than try to get hold of the unabridged version, but if it's just a throw in your bag book, then stick with it.
That probably doesn't help a jot.

I am almost half way through Emotional Geology already! This book is wonderful with very real characters and a rich understanding of the human psyche. Thank you to Chrissy for recommending Linda Gillard's work.
Pixie, my pleasure. Some writers just completely have 'it'. You wait...there are more of Linda's books to read!

I just ate a delish crunchy salad with little bits of cheese and a tiny drizzle of honey and mustard dressing.

Welcome to the forum.
I'm glad you enjoyed 'We're All Made Of Glue' as I have it sitting on my To Be read pile.
I think a few people on here may have read this one, if not they have read some of her others.

Hi Fruska, there is a short thread here that names a few WW1 books.
On my bookshelf I have Max Arthur's 'Forgotten Voices Of The Great War'. I am yet to read it but it looks very good.

It is so sad and awful and soul destroying that this is how it went with him.
Two children killed a little boy, and every effort appears to have been made to 'help' the two. One seems to have done so much better than the other. How terribly sad for all concerned.

Me too - I never get any until the "missing vowels" round! And where do they get those collections of geeks from??
Mind you, Victoria Coren would be my ideal dinner date - funny, smart and she could pay for the meal out of her poker winnings ...
I can do great on the wall ~ sometimes!
I adore Victoria Coren ~ both hubby and I would be thrilled to meet her (although I think perhaps that our reasons may differ a little).

I grew up surrounded by books and these books were well treated, which I know sounds weird but I mean that I grew up knowing that books mattered.
I could read amd write before I started school thanks to my Mum, and was always delighted to receive books and book tokens as presents. Additionally my schools from an early age had regular reading time and group story time.
If I didn't know how great books were from life at home, then school would definitely have shown me.

I've only bought 2 books in the last two months, so I'm pretty proud of myself!
There's. Something. Wrong. In. The. Universe.
Balance must be restored somehow.
Knowing your frequency of purchasing, has this been a decision not to or have you just not really seen anything you wanted?

Word...
Now you're just thread naming!

It is that bizarre sensation when you realise that it is not flames chasing across a surface, it is lit jets of water. Captivating!
