Hi there! How did your We go? I hope you managed to get enough done for your exam and thesis. Good luck for tomorrow!

I just finished A complicated Kindness! Which I found... I dont know really. In some ways it really bugged me, what with the jumping around and not understanding what she was talking about half of the time... But I aso found it fascinating and I really enjoyed parts of it and with the ending it seemed to take on so much more sense! I just feel like I've missed out on a lot of the meaning behind it, which was a bit frustrating. I probably would enjoy it much more on a second reading...

Maybe I also need to let it stew a bit... review it in a few days. There's no doubt its a great book anyhow. Thanks for pointing it out!

  2. Hello and welcome William!
  3. Thank you ii! These look great and I havent read them. I'll definitely check them out and maybe add them to my wishlist for christmas *grins* Now, how come you suggested the 'travelling' ones for me and kept Deluxe for yourself ? How did you work out that repartition ?? *cracks up* And I know what you mean about that drawer... I have several of those myself, with odd bits and pieces, scraps of paper, cut-outs, random photos and leaflets collected everywhere...
  4. mmm I was thinking of pulling it out of the list anyway, so I think that seals it! I'll save the space for something else...
  5. That's good to know! Do you think it's just not your kind of book or would you say its really one to avoid? I have it on my wishlist at the moment.
  6. Not when I'm speaking english. How was Germany? Must have been quite an experience as well!

*cracks up* The giant chocolate rabbit incident must have been priceless!

London - Well, at the time I was only a kid living their with my family, so I guess it was pretty much just home. But I've gone back several times since then and enjoyed it very much, especially the beautiful parks... I spent hours enjoying agatha christy novels in sunny London parks. It was bliss!

And I naively thought you had just been following the races on TV...*cracks up* Well, it certainly sounds like you had a great time!

mmm knitting, why not... when I'll have a bit more time. Cause at the moment its a bit hectic. *wonders where the time is flying to and wether it can still be caught up with*

A voodoo 'doll'! Yes, that would have been highly satisfying at some points of the book :D

ok, I'm gonne be good tonight and turn this computer off early so as to get time to read in bed *feels like she's regressing to bedtime age* (my parents used to set me a limit where I had to stop and go to sleep, and they'd check in the morning where my bookmark was... unfortunately, half the time I forgot to move it back to the appropriate place *laughs*)

    Well, I'll try anyway...

  8. Currently mostly amazon marketplace or play.com secondhand sellers...Much cheaper than new books and the copies marked as being in 'good' or 'very good' state are often as good as new with just a few signs of having been well read and loved... The library is good too.

    Hello!

    Welcome Emily!

okay, I had planned to just write you a quick word, but somehow my message got way too long to fit in one post. So here is the rest:

I havent had the chance of meeting Adam yet, so I'll choose to see that as a compliment *laughs*

So, how did you find 'ou es tu?' in the end? Did you survive the emotional rollercoaster? Curse the author to seventh hell halfway through the book? :D

I just started A complicated Kindness... And to tell you the truth I'm quite sure that if you hadnt recomended it to me time and time again and I had just picked it up randomly I would have given up on it after a few chapters. I was quite put out by the broken, difficult to follow, jumping from one thought to the next style... But I persevered, and I'm glad I did because I'm starting to really enjoy it! So thanks, I think that's were a recomendation is really useful... when it gets you to read books you wouldnt have bothered about otherwise and which turn out to be great *grins*

    Saut ma puce!

(it actually feels so weird to see french words on this forum... my mind switches completely to english when I get online *laughs*)

I'm ok. Have had an uneventful few days, dont think you missed much on the forum... I wouldnt have said no to a little 'out and abouting' *grins* And you? Been skying ?? That sounds heavenly right now... Though to be fair I should get my share of it during my weeks in school! How was the snow? Not too early in the season?

As for knitting... here I was, thinking you were trying to cover up some deep dark secret by eluding all questions *laughs* Wouldnt say no to such a nice skarf myself but I'm afraid my disastrous attempts have set me off that path...

  12. Yeah it was great! Finally a really good episode, full of dark humour and unpredictability. I feel like the seasons back on track *grins*
  13. I know and I totally agree... It irks me so much when people refuse to read... *looks around for a random example*... Harry Potter, because "it just has to be a commercial scam to get so much attention". Though I guess I'm biased on that one... like so many others *laughs*
  14. In a way yes, of course... But then there is so much to read out there and Dan Brown's books never appealed to me in the first place. So I dont see why I should read them just because they are popular and the 'must-read' of the moment...
  15. Ah the exchange experiences... had a few of those as well, though it wasnt with penfriends just friends of friends of friends or something, who wanted to spend some time in france and were willing to recieve me in england or elsewhere... It can make for dreadful or wonderful experiences depending on the persons ;-)

Thanks. I lived in london for a few years when I was a kid and then went to a bilingual school in france, so I have no merit really *laughs*

Are you learning another language whilst waiting for your french lessons?

  16. Thanks for the request Nici! I hope you had a nice relaxing day after yesterday's party ;-) The pictures are lovely.

  17. Oh right, hadnt seen it that way. I can see how it might be confusing *laughs* I study business and thankfully am nearly finished - only a year left. Have you visited france? whereabouts?

    Alpine skiing

No, I havent been following the competitions... But I agree, this sport can be so exhilarating, even just to watch!
  19. That's very good indeed! My We is going ok, quiet and relaxing.

*laughs* I'm actually French, so this is where I live. Though I love traveling so I hope I wont be staying here too long *grins*

  20. Hi there, thanks for the invite! How has your day been? Still enjoying that diary? :readingtwo:

  21. Finally finished The Chocolate Lover's Club yesterday. It was ok but far too long and stretched out.
  22. You should give it a try! It's very short and simple to read so you can read it for a bit of a breather in the middle of a longer novel and it's definitely a must-read *grins* I'm currently reading The chocolate lover's club which is fun and full of good ideas of all chocolate lovers such as me. But it hasnt got me hooked yet. I'll see how it goes. Also I've started a blog this We to review and discuss the books (fiction and non fiction) I read relating to other cultures and/ or development issues. If these themes interest you please have a look and tell me what you think. It's just a start and I'm not sure where I'm going with it so any comments are welcome
