  1. Wow Nellie, that site looks great! Thanks!
  2. *laughs* Developing the lists is what you enjoy most isn't it? This idea seems interesting... Maybe I should do something similar with France? One day, maybe. At the moment I cant be bothered to restrict my book choices Edit: Just what I meant my dear!
  3. Oooh, that's a great idea Kell! I'll have to think of an appropriate recomendation and come back with it
  4. Hi! Also wanted to comment on that thread... Please dont think you dont 'fit' in here because of that: disagreements are bound to happen on a forum and as Roxi said we tend to avoid conflicts on here.

As I said in the thread I disagree with your view (even though I'm really not a fan of organised religion myself) but it would make for an interesting debate - this type of forum probably just isn't the place for it as it can turn nasty quickly, especially when there are people who feel very strongly about it.

I hope to see you around on the board!

  5. In fact it's readily available in paperback on amazon. It's in france that it is difficult to find. Let me know what you think!
  6. Of course it is! Glad to have you here
  7. I disagree completely Tintin. Religion being a question of personal faith doesn't make it any less 'non fiction' and 'non fiction' doesnt mean 'hard science' books. I am not religious but this book can interest those who are and it certainly isn't 'fiction': people pray everywhere in the world, the author hasnt invented that has she? Think of philosophy books. You might not always agree with their vision of the world/ man, but would you classify them as fiction?
  8. Never! I might be tempted but I'll resist. Though I must confess I did do it recently with The Kite Runner but I was like 10 pages from the end and I just couldnt bear the suspense anymore
  9. mmm, I know my mum has taken part in some storytelling sessions: not quite what you describe but definitely not book launches either. Just a storyteller coming to spin his stories in a nice room with a small group of 'spectators'. It was part of special events or the local theatres anual program. Maybe you should be on the lookout in your library, local theatres, any cultural events that come up...
  10. God I hate these type of asumptions... It's like people will often think that 'real readers' read mostly classics and 'complicated, intelectual' books... I just want to read what I like when I like and at the pace I like.
  11. Same here... my reading pace depends on many factors which have already been mentioned and also on the language: I dont read as quickly in english as in french (though that could change soon as I seem to be reading mostly in english these days) and definitely slower in spanish when I get a book in that language. And the reading pace definitely doesnt define readers... What a ridiculous idea!
  12. I hated the essay writing where you HAD to find special literary figures and specific meanings... especially when we had to read poetry.
  13. Of course. Aparetly it's been very popular there too. *laughs*
  14. Yes, especially for you!
  15. That sounds awesome! Any idea were you'll be heading next? Enjoy!
  16. I want to see that too! Have you read the book? It's great!

    hello

    Hello and welcome rwemad!
  18. Hello and welcome Bethany! What are you doing in India? Spending 6 months there must be amazing!
  19. Well, we would certainly love to hear more about the magical world and I'm sure she has more than enough material to write a wonderful encyclopedia... But sequels for the sake of sequels aren't a good idea either. If she doesnt feel she has more to tell it would be a shame to force it. And I'm sure her talent for writing could bring us other great books in completely different areas. I'd love to see what else she could invent!
  20. *laughs* Well I dont actually read them in the loo... there's just no space left anywhere else so we have shelves in there.
  21. *cracks up* Good one Tintin! So, why do I read? I dont know really, I feel like I've always read. Both my parents are avid readers and every single room of our house (down to the loo *laughs*) has always been filled with books... So it's just natural Like you I think it's a lot about passing the time and escaping the present... But I guess I could do that with another hobby. Reading just seems to be my thing
  22. There are some wonderful graphic novels... It doesn't have to be a last resort
  23. God we're a bunch of book maniacs aren't we ?? *cracks up*
  24. That sounds like a very fun way of doing it. Great idea! I did a lot of acting in theater clubs when I was younger so read quite a few plays but I'll admit reading it really isnt the same as seeing it acted out and the stage directions can be frustrating.
  25. Chimera

And us! It's been quiet without you *laughs*

Good luck with the decorating! Or should I say the turning his flat upside down ? *wonders wether he knows what he's getting into*

Christmas was great. a good mix of nice family time (as in just my parents, brother, brother's GF and me), larger family reunion and catching up with friends... And loads of good food and reading of course! Too bad school starts again tomorrow *laughs*

And the big news of the day is brother's GF will actually be my sister in law! *does a happy dance*

So, when do we get you back on board "full time" ?
