  1. Tron Legacy Although the story was basically a re-run of the original, I really like this film. It's one of the best designed films I think I have ever seen and the Daft Punk soundtrack is excellent. It's such a shame Disney cancelled the follow up...

^ I think you'll find it was pretty camp at the time, as well.
  3. I'm not a huge fan of Descent, because it is the second story in Star Trek to undermine the Borg by putting a face on them (it's far from being the worst offender in that regard, but it continues a theme that Voyager subsequently pursued with reckless abandon). After The Best of Both Worlds, this was a mediocre return for a previously intractable enemy.

^ Sad to hear that, she'll always be my Tess Trueheart...
  5. No, not really. It was a headline for a short while, but unless you live in the constituency in Kent where this is an issue, outside of that it's been swamped by other stories. Possibly bigger, is the news that the CPS isn't pressing ahead with all of the other electoral fraud cases it has had on it's books, so it looks like that brick has been cleared from the Tory rail... Don't get me wrong, I don't like the Tories, but the fair reporting of news has to go both ways, you can't just use an angle for your own ends.
  6. I'd be willing to give this a go; wot's the story?
  7. This three-parter has been pretty good, looking forward to seeing the conclusion on Saturday.
  8. New month, new deals, and this month there are quite a few good ones! (to many to mention them all, but I will get a plug in for The Day of the Triffids, in case anyone hasn't read it before - a bargin at £1.99!).
  9. If someone is reading a book in public I think it is only natural that it will form part of your assessment of the individual, in the same way their clothes, hair style and general apperance do. Whether your snap judgement will be correct or not is another matter!
  10. To be fair, I did like the first film (and remember walking out of a '96 cinema that was cheering come the end!). Yes, it is was uneven, with the first half being all doom and portent and the second half degenerating into a bit of a romp, but it was what is was - a summer blockbuster that was generally quite a bit of fun. This one really wasn't. It was a stale re-hash that tried to work in as many references to the original as it could, whilst completely failing to do anything original. Proof, to my mind, that bigger/more doesn't mean better!
  11. Nuts, meant to say Conan Doyle. Forgot about Burroughs!
  12. Independence Day: Resurgence Possibly one of the best films I've ever seen! Great characterisation, a stonking plot & some well rounded performances. It left me wanting more! #actuallyitwastheexactoppositeofthat
  13. Wells lived from the late eighteen hundreds through to the middle of the last century, so you've quite a range there. Off the top of my head, I'd suggest Jules Verne, Aldous Huxley, Fred Hoyle and Orwell. Sure there are plenty more!
  14. I'm guessing you never watched season 24! (which was universally rubbish!). Like others, I've been enjoying this series more than the last two. The first three stories were pretty good, the last one was a bit weak and contrived, but it wasn't a complete loss. This week's looks interesting and with some classic villains to come this series is shaping up nicely to easily be Capaldi's best.
  15. It's a period piece by the same people who did Strange and Norrell, I'll be very disappointed if this is another Triffids.
  16. Rogue One Enjoyed it more this second time around. Still don't understand why they didn't make Vader the main villian, as it would have kept better continuity with Star Wars and significantly upped the tension, but hey-ho!
  17. I have an Android phone, but it doesn't have the largest of screens so selecting options on web pages isn't always easy. The previous version of the board had large icons to take you where you wanted to go, this has fiddly small links... As I said above - however - no matter (don't worry about it!).
  18. No, it's not that things aren't working, it's just that I don't find it as easy to navigate. The old mobile version had large icons that got you where you wanted to go quickly, with this version you have to navigate it like a webpage, which I don't find as easy with my chubby banana fingers! I've had a look for a mobile app but there doesn't appear to be one. No matter!
  19. Hurrah! Looks like Harness has jumped ship from ITV, because the BBC are doing it now! First adaptation of HG Wells' The War of the Worlds
  20. This isn't a complaint, but the mobile version of the old boards was much easier to use than this one. The new version seems to have made changes so the regular format of the boards works on both PCs and mobiles etc. but it seems to be an uncomfortable mash up. Does anyone know if there is an app for the new version that works better on smaller devices?
  21. Doctor Strange Much better than I was expecting. As the quote on the back of the Blu-ray box said 'leaves you wanting more.'
  22. Sahara Daft, but enjoyable. A pity this didn't lead to a series of films, as originally planned.
  23. Titanic Plum Porter, and it's jolly nice!
