  1. Technically, I was around for the first UK run of TOS, but only just! I was a huge fan back in the eighties/nineties when TNG and DS9 were at their peak. Wasn't a huge fan of Voyager, but I enjoyed Enterprise. This is very different, and certainly more adult in tone, but it is the most consistent and even first season of any of the Trek sequels.
  2. Studio Ghibli films are fantastic! They are all pretty good, but I'd recommend Spirited Away and Princess Mononoke.
  3. I've never watched Black Mirror before, but I did watch the USS Callister episode this week. It was clever, in a way, but I'm not sure I want to watch anymore.
  4. Since the mid-season break, this has been consistently good, and the twist at the end of this week's episode turns the whole series on it's head. Well played, I certainly didn't see what they've done coming! 3 episodes left to go...
  5. Also Babylon 5 is being shown on Pick every night at eight. Haven't watched it for years, but have been enjoying that as well.
  6. I have chain watched the first two seasons of Stranger Things over the last couple of weeks, and thoroughly enjoyed it. Perfectly captures the spirit of the 80s, but has a great story and some fantastic performances - especially from the kids. The Goonies meets the X-Files, I cannot recommend it enough!
  7. You might enjoy Enigma, by Robert Harris. It's not a milion miles away in tone and is well written.
  8. Watched a couple of very different films last night, Mr. Holmes and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. I thought Mr. Holmes was good, Ian McKellen pretty much carried the film, but it was pretty bleak in places. Guardians was good, but not as good as the first one (though the intro and teenage Groot were both very funny).
  9. 2! (This year, thus far) That's more than I read in six months last year!
  10. Fallen Acorn Black Hearted. A subtle little black IPA from Gosport.
  11. Have a good one, Chrissy! May all the books you wish to read be all the ones you want too!
  12. 2 days in and I have one on the board! Not bad, after last year...
  13. [First line, you can stop after that an save your ears...]
  14. A "Rotten Tomatoes for books", giving a critic's and a user's* score, sounds like a good idea but I would imagine that the amount of work that would be required to get it up and running would be colossal! Would you be rating the story as written by the author, or would you be rating individual imprints? *One that is policed a little better than Amazons!
  15. At the moment, I'd put it 6th, which isn't as much of a slight as it may seem on face value!
  16. I liked The Force Awakens!
  17. Star Wars: The Last Jedi I must confess to being disappointed. Not a terrible film by any means - and way better than any of the prequels - but it didn't pay off what was set up in the first film for me, and I hate how they have used/where they have taken the original trilogy characters.
  18. Downlands Root Thirteen.
  19. Worthington's range is less, trust me. Watched the Hammer version of The Hound of the Baskervilles yesterday, and as someone at work said today, it's like watching a carry on film but with horror instead of the laughs.
  20. When you spend so long in the bath reading it's too late to cook anything so you have a cheese and ham sarnie for your supper...
  21. 10+1 (Ain't nobody gonna see that on a mobile...)
  22. Wrath of the Titans I don't think I've ever seen a film with so many wooden performances; Sam Worthington's acting runs the gamut from A all the way to A and the rest weren't much better, either.
  23. I'd be very surprised if the series was significantly different in tone from the films; this isn't a Game of Thrones prequel.
  24. I can't imagine that making a whole lot of sense!
