  1. Needs some nice, thick slices of ham too.
  2. You are right, that is a weird question! No, no cross-dressing in this one.
  3. The first book [The Big Sleep] is probably the best one to start with. It has dated, being set in LA in the 40's, but it is still a good, strong story that is very well written.
  4. There is a compilation edition of Raymond Chandler's Philip Marlowe novels, The Lady in the Lake, The High Window and The Little Sister in today's daily Kindle deal for 99p. An even better bargain than Tinker Tailor Solider Spy the other day, and well worth a read!
  5. Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy is a Kindle Deal of the day today, a bargain at 99p!
  6. Saw this again on Tuesday night and I really think this is one of the best science fiction films I have seen for years. An intriguing plot that is handled with subtlety and thought, where other recent films of a similar ilk have been overplayed (the afore mentioned Interstellar) or have just been plain daft (Gravity). I think I am going to have to seek out the [award winning] novella it was based on (Story of Your Life, by Ted Chiang)
  7. I think my hair is melting...
  8. Bit of a "how long is a piece of string" question that as it depends entirely on the book. I can spend several hours reading if I have nothing else going on and I'm enjoying the book, but on the other hand it might only be five minutes and a few pages before bed.
  9. Cooler tomorrow and Friday though, with rain for the weekend. Great.
  10. Working from home today, and able to keep all the windows open so there is a bit of a breeze through the flat, but I wouldn't call it comfortable working conditions!
  11. Had to look up OCR there, but that would make sense. Some of the errors just looked like typos, but a couple were a completely wrong (but similar looking) word.
  12. I've just finished the Kindle version of John Wyndham's The Kraken Wakes and there were several errors that I am sure are not in the print version.
  13. I, Robot by Isaac Asimov
  14. Yay! Another convert!

Well that wasn't a game for the faint-hearted... Just about calmed down again!

Well that was unexpected... Will probably be a bag of nerves for most of Sunday!
  17. Tricky one this... I have read quite a few post-apocalypse books over the years, but they predominantly have a strong science fiction basis; The Day of the Triffids and The Kraken Wakes, both by John Wyndham, for example, or I am Legend, by Richard Matheson (I can also name several post-alien invasion books, but I'm guessing they won't exactly fit the remit either!) The only one I can think of immediately that doesn't have a strong "fantastical" angle is The Drowned World, by JG Ballard. It's a good book, but not exactly heavy on the laughs...
  18. Doh! Wrong thread, I thought this was what you'd finished today!
  19. First read, or re-read?
  20. 4 down, 4 to go for me (should finish it tomorrow night.) There was one reference in either episode 3 or 4 that had me laughing like a drain, but for the life of me I cannot remember what it was. Will be a shame if I have to watch it again!
