  2. Nice to hear you had a good night, I hope you get your new place soon. Houses are all we do, I don't go out much! They're much cheaper to build yourself, but hard work. This is the last one though, it's taken us 4 years to get this far and I'd like to be in it at least twice as long as it took to build the thing!

Glad you're enjoying Dexter, I thought it picked up again in this one. Did I tell you I've written to Mr Lindsay asking him to guest on here? Hope he says yes :o

  6. If you've only seen two episodes, all the better, you're mind isn't too tainted by the show ;). I didn't like it either!

  7. Thanks for the pic comment :D I don't normally go for blondes either, so its very surprising to me that I took to him! Glad you liked it :D

  8. Hey Catwoman!

I'm gonna make another recommend to you then I'll shut up  Have you read any of the Dexter series by Jeff Lindsay? The television series 'Dexter' is based on them. Basically Dexter is a serial killer, but with a difference, he only kills bad people. I've never read anything like it before and Dexter the character is actually quite funny, in a dark kind of way. If you have seen any of the series don't worry, it's only losely based on the books which are far better. Check out my 'charms choices' thread to see my full thoughts. I think they might surprise you! ;)

  9. Hey there! :D

Your new av is so cute and adorable! Very nice indeed :D Are you having a good weekend?

  10. Glad you found Broken Angels enjoyable Maureen Maybe the killer wanted to share his work, so he started to display? Its been a long time since I've read this and I only vaguely remember it If you liked 'The Surgeon by Tess Gerritsen', you'll like 'The Rosary Girls' too.
  11. I was reading this thread (and having a bit of a giggle ) and realised there were no actual descriptions of Mr Lindsay's books. As a couple of members are now reading a Dexter novel, I thought I'd bring up this thread again and post the synopsis for the books, as we have quite a few new members who I think might be interested in him. 'Darkly Dreaming Dexter' ~by~ Jeff Lindsay Synopsis from Waterstones: Dexter Morgan isn't exactly the kind of man you'd bring home to your mum. At heart, he's the perfect gentleman: he has a shy girlfriend, and seems to lead a quiet, normal life bordering on the mundane. Despite the fact that he can't stand the sight of blood, he works as a blood-spatter analyst for the Miami police. But Dexter also has a secret hobby: he is an accomplished serial killer. So far, he's killed 36 people and has never been caught because he knows exactly how to hide the evidence. And while that may lead some people to assume he's not such a nice guy, he tempers his insatiable hunger for brutality by only killing the bad guys. However, Dexter's well-organised life is suddenly disrupted when a second, much more visible serial killer appears in Miami. Intrigued that the other killer favours a style similar to his own, Dexter soon realises that the mysterious new arrival is not simply invading his turf but offering him a direct invitation to 'come out and play'... Dearly Devoted Dexter ~by~ Jeff Lindsay Synopsis courtesy of Waterstones Miami's best-dressed serial killer is back and on the prowl, at least he would be if he could shake off his permanent shadow. Ever since their paths first crossed, Sergeant Doakes hasn't let Dexter Morgan out of his sight. Dexter may well be the Miami PD's blood-spatter analyst, but Sgt. Doakes has a pretty good idea of how Dex likes to spend his free time and he's determined to catch him in the act. Dex hasn't killed in months and is getting twitchy. To throw Doakes off his scent, he's spending more time with Rita, his girlfriend. But no matter how many cosy nights they spend in front of the TV, Doakes is still watching. Then a body turns up, horribly mutilated and barely alive. To trap the torturer, Doakes and Dexter will have to work together, if they can trust each other. It's a devil's pact and one of them will have to be the bait... Dexter In The Dark ~by~ Jeff Lindsay Synopsis Courtesy of Waterstones: Dexter Morgan is busy planning his wedding to Rita to complete his nice-guy disguise. But when a student is found burnt, molested and headless - seemingly sacrificed to an ancient god - and Dex is brought in as forensic analyst to help investigate, he realises he could be dealing with someone a whole lot more sinister than he is. Soon it seems the dark passenger in Dexter's head has gone into hiding. And when something creeps out your friendly neighbourhood serial killer, you know it's serious ...As Halpern and Dexter are stalked by death, it looks like it's getting personal - especially as Dex now has a family to protect. Gradually, Dexter realises his stepchildren might share his extracurricular interest in death. Could he help them target their bloodlust, just as he steers his own? But to do that, Dex must cope with a certain mutilated sergeant from his past, and more importantly ...stay alive ... Dexter by Design ~by~ Jeff Lindsay Synopsis Courtesy of Waterstones: Being a blood spatter analyst who hates the sight of blood has always made Dexter's work for the Miami PD tough. But it means he's very neat when it comes to his out-of-hours hobby: murder. Of course, the fact Dexter only kills bad people helps too. Now Dex is facing a disturbing situation. He's used to blood at work, and blood when he's out with the dark passenger (the voice that guides him on his deadly outings). But he's not sure what to make of the man who says blood is art. Using bodies as his canvas, someone is out there expressing themselves in the most lethal and painful of ways. If Dexter's to escape the scalpel and avoid becoming the latest exhibit, he needs somewhere to run...
  12. Thanks for the pic comment amethyst! I'm glad you like it. There's still loads to do but we're getting there ;) Hope you're having a great weekend. :D

  13. Hiya Catwoman! How are you? :D I haven't read Fractured so I can't say, but I do have a good idea what you mean. The last couple of Slaughter's books haven't really been doing it for me, not even sure if I'll get Genesis  They're becomming a bit 'samey', if you know what I mean, and I can't stand the character Lena Adams and unfortunately she is often a focal point :( Shame you're not enjoying it, sounds like she's one of your favourites normally. I did read a little gem lately called Cause For Alarm by Erica Spindler, I think you may like it, Pipread has just read it and loved it. Oh and of course you will love Mr Deaver ;)

Hope you have a lovely weekend! :D

  14. Glad you liked the pics ;) I felt exactly like you did after DTTW, I just kept wanting to read about Eric! I did really like Alcide too, he sounded really strong yet sensitive. Had a beating heart too which is a bonus! Only thing was, he was still hung up on his ex
  15. Oh yes! I started Dying Light straight after finishing Cold Granite, its nice to read about Aberdeen in the summer! Sounds very much like Belfast

  16. Great choice ladies! I hope your Dad is pleased with his pressie Amethyst
  17. 6 weeks! That sounds like heaven! You're bound to get loads of reading done, I hope your mojo stays the whole time :D I've seen the film Copycat with Sigourney Weaver and did enjoy it so I think I may just look out for the book. I just read your last review, it was great (:lurker: you might want to change the title, Cause for Alarm. That caught me out too!)

I hope you like Dexter By Design, I thought he was back on form again in this one :D

  18. Thanks for that Michelle! What a great thread Stuart MacBride sounds like a really nice, down to earth kinda guy, very interesting reading. I'm sorry I wasn't a member sooner now!
  19. Cold Granite ~by~ Stuart MacBride Synopsis Courtesy of Waterstone's: The debut thriller from a bright new Scottish talent set to rival Ian Rankin. It's DS Logan McRae's first day back on the job after a year off on the sick, and it couldn't get much worse. Four-year-old David Reid's body is discovered in a ditch, strangled, mutilated and a long time dead. There's a killer stalking the Granite City and the local media are baying for blood. If that wasn't enough, Logan also has to contend with a new boss, DI Insch, who doesn't suffer fools gladly and thinks everyone's a fool, and his own ex-girlfriend, the beautiful but chilly Isobel MacAlister, who also happens to be the chief pathologist. The only good news is WPC 'Ball Breaker' Watson, Logan's new guardian angel. The dead are piling up in the morgue almost as fast as the snow on the streets, and Logan knows time is running out. More children are going missing. More are going to die. If Logan isn't careful, he's going to end up joining them. My thoughts: Logan McRae's return to work after a year off isn't quite as smooth sailing as he'd hoped. After the 3 month old body of 4 year old David Reid is discovered things just go from bad to worse. A sick serial killer, a troublesome journalist and an overbearing boss make his return as a Detective Sergeant less than pleasant. This is a hard edged, gruesome, Scottish thriller set in Aberdeen which doesn't hold back when it comes to the gritty details. Each chapter brought twists and turns to a great story of the city's darker underbelly and criminal world. The characters were interesting and memorable making the plot with its parallel storylines easier to follow. I loved the Scottish element to the book and the author manages to convey a real feel for the location. If you like your thrillers with a real chill then you may like this. 8/10
  20. Hi pipread :D I'm good thanx. I'm so glad you enjoyed 'Cause for Alarm' and it helped your mojo! ;) I thought it was a fantastic read. I've only read one other of hers 'In Silence' and while it wasn't just as good for me, it was still very enjoyable. Looking forward to hearing what you think of 'Last Known Victim' :smile2: I finished 'Cold Granite' by Stuart MacBride last night at last, I did take me ages to get into it but turned into a good story .. I've started his 'Dying Light' now. Hope you're keeping good xo

  21. Charm

    Hiya.

    to the forum Michael!
  22. Great review Janet This is on my wishlist.
  23. There is no paragraph 5 on this page so this is the last paragraph. Logan stood on the top step, looking up and down the deserted street. 'What did you find when you searched the other buildings?' Dying Light ~ Stuart MacBride
  24. The street was dark as they entered the boarded-up building: scruffy wee sh*tes in their tatty jeans and hooded tops. Dying Light ~ Stuart MacBride
  25. I knew you'd like Dead to the World! Wasn't he great! :D I really hope the series gets to number 4 ;) I know exactly what you mean about Bill though, I did like him in the first books but after this one, compared to Eric, he's a bit of a wet blanket! So glad you're enjoying the series :D
