Hello and welcome to my thread! I'm totally early this year, with starting my thread, because I'll be busier later in December and I was fearing I wouldn't have the time to do my thread. Here we go! Thanks Talisman! Quiches are a good idea, too! I took a quick glance at the two links and they look very promising! I'm going to take a closer look tomorrow when I have more time. Thanks! (Who knows, maybe I'll pick up some other recipies from the sites, too, and can use them for later when my vegan friend comes to visit! )

November reading summary 48 - The Keeper of Lost Causes by Jussi Adler-Olsen 3/5 49 - The Absent One by Jussi Adler-Olsen 4/5 50 - Kellari by Maaria Päivinen 2/5 51 - This One Is Mine by Maria Semple 4/5 The way my reading's been going in the past months, this was actually a pretty good reading month. I discovered a new Swedish crime series which I'm looking forward to continuing, and I read a book by a Finnish female author I discovered at the book fair in September, and then I read a great novel by Maria Semple Not too shabby!

51. This One Is Mine by Maria Semple Amazon: Violet Parry is living the quintessential life of luxury in the Hollywood Hills with David, her rock-and-roll manager husband, and her darling toddler, Dot. She has the perfect life--except that she's deeply unhappy. David expects the world of Violet but gives little of himself in return. When she meets Teddy, a roguish small-time bass player, Violet comes alive, and soon she's risking everything for the chance to find herself again. Also in the picture are David's hilariously high-strung sister, Sally, on the prowl for a successful husband, and Jeremy, the ESPN sportscaster savant who falls into her trap. For all their recklessness, Violet and Sally will discover that David and Jeremy have a few surprises of their own. THIS ONE IS MINE is a compassionate and wickedly funny satire about our need for more--and the often disastrous choices we make in the name of happiness. Thoughts: I read somewhere here on the forum that Maria Semple, the author of Where'd You Go, Bernadette? has published a new novel in 2016 and I went to reserve a copy of it at the library. When I did a search for Semple, I found there was also a copy of a 2010 book by her, and I wanted to read it, too. I think I had an idea of how this book might go, and which characters I would like. It started out that way, but I loved how Semple didn't just contend herself with what could have been charicatures of characters, but she went deeper and I found myself empathizing with even the characters I originally disliked. Unfortunately I started a similar sort of book right after having read this one, so the two books are a bit mixed in my mind and I honestly can't remember how the book ended. Where is my mind these days Anyhow, I really liked reading the book, and I think I actually like this one a tiny bit better than Where'd You Go, Bernadette? 4/5

I went to a charityshop yesterday, just to have a look. I found a copy of Carter Beats the Devil by Glen David Gold In mint condition, too! It was 3€, and I kept laughing... I had to buy it. I also found a Finnish copy of The Dinner by Herman Koch! It was also in mint condition and only 2€ so I had to buy it. I think I first gave the novel 3/5... No, my goodread account says I gave it 4/5. But I think if I were to rate it now, after having thought about it for 2 years (not on a daily basis, but often, in any case ), I would give it 5/5. I definitely want to re-read again. I feel like lately a lot of books I've bought have been books I've loved reading and want to re-read and own... I'm not as frivolous about buying new books and giving them a go. It's so handy to have the library for that

Nina Is Not OK was certainly very interesting! I hope you will like it if and when you get to reading it! I'm quite alright, thanks Alexi! I hope you've been great, too! I'm now dreading that it's not, but I'll try to keep an open mind. It's not however the first time that the library's details of individual books have thrown me off... I just got a copy of a book that I thought had been written in the 60s, as I think the library said it was published in the 60s. I have no idea how that happened. Maybe the book I searched for was a totally different novel... I'm now confused! Me too!

Hi itsmeagain! Yeah, of course I could just google 'vegan puff pastries', but the problem is I would get a huge number of hits all in random, and I would just have to go with something on there. It's like books: I could google a 'good book' but I would get the opinions of a million random people on there, when I would rather ask the people I know and like on here I trust your guys' opinions way more than those on the 'free internet' You know? But thank you for your input anyway

Don't worry, my love! I know you've been busy with work and the play and all things! And I'm very slow to get back to you on these ... I thought I'd already replied!! I'm so behind on reading people's logs on here... Oh dear I think I shall google the titles of this year's reading schedule. I wonder if she's boogying to Beatles like it's 1999 Oh crap But I do wonder if the latest books have not been that good and if that's the reason why they've stopped translating them. Was it you or Kay who'd read the second novel and thought it was nothing and clearly not as good as the first novel? That sounds really interesting! Alain de Botton is so intelligent, he intimidates the crap out of me And yet his book on Proust was so approachable and I totally loved it! I have no idea how you keep track of everything that you need to keep track of I'm sure you must make copious notes!! Woof That cracked me up!! Yeah, maybe it's just a name I saw on a sign on our way to the city. It just sounds eerily familiar I miss you loads! Do tell us about your latest book shenanigans! Pretty please? Mwaaaah!

I've also read the book and I agree with your review on it. I think some people have been really harsh on Sue. It's like if she cries and shows emotion, people will think what does she have to cry about, her son's the killer. And if she doesn't cry and doesn't try to explain things, people think she's cold and calculated. Or maybe it's just how people view the parents of mass killers in general. I just don't know how she has the courage to go on. I have reserved this book from the library, I hope to like it!

Thanks Onion Budgie very very much for the link! I'm going to take a close look for inspiration!

I'm more than awfully late to reading these reading logs by other members, and I'm awfully sorry that I'm only now coming back to your comment from April You could actually take Finnish in the third year?? Bloody hell. I didn't know that was possibly in any other place than Finland, and maybe, MAYBE Sweden, if it was some big ass language-orientated school. Since you work in an office, have you watched The Office by any chance? (UK or US version) Great review! I once saw bits of the movie and it was also slow and meandering, but I felt captivated by it nonetheless. However, I decided against watching it as I had not caught it right from the start and I thought I'd watch it in full some day. I've been meaning to read the book, but so far ... I've not. I really should!

Hey peoples! Does anyone know any delicious vegan recipies for puff pastries? I'm having some friends over next weekend for my Birthday, and one of them has gone vegan recently, and I'm just clueless about what to make for him! You see, he is good at baking and cooking, and so is one of my other friends who's also coming over, but I don't want to ask them, because I'm kind of the designated has-no-idea-how-to-bake of the bunch, and I'd really, really like to surprise them by having baked things. As for the non-vegan stuff, I know what I want to bake, but I have no idea what to do for a vegan puff pastry!! I think cheese is very essential in puff pastries, but are there any good vegan cheeses out there? And what else to put in the pastries besides cheese? The pastries do not have to include cheese, though. But do you have any tips for me? I'd be much obliged! Edit: Having read about puff pastries more closely, I realize that the English puff pastries can be made of butter, among other things. I'm buying a similar sort of dough, which is a vegan-friendly version of the buttery kind. I just don't know what to call that one.

Sorry but I had to laugh How had you managed to forget that the boxes actually contained perfume? But hey, you found what you'd been wanting to purchase Win-win! Have you finished by now? 16 months.. Could you then come over here and help me finish? I was in the middle of doing things but then other things came up and I sort of got lazy, too. But I did sort out my closet and rearranged the area behind the sofa, and it's so much nicer now. I still need to do a few things, but I might leave it till next year, as I'm too busy in December. Always am, what with a party each week (Independence day, my Bday, Christmas, New Year's Eve. And this year adding to the list: Boss's Birthday and my friend's going away party )
