  1. I'm of the same opinion. It's enjoyable, don't get me wrong, but I'm on Storm of Swords at the moment and I'm grinding slowly to a halt. I'm not sure I'll attempt the next one. That being said, I really enjoyed the television series and thought they did a great job.
  2. Maedeh, I've got to say that although they may not be the greatest books of all time, and undoubtedly there are better out there, it by no means would ever make me hate them. You seem to suggest that reading them is a waste of time, can you elaborate? I mean, I know people that don't like them and hate the fact that others rave about them, but 'wasting your time' seems a little strong to me. What was it you hated about them? Surely you can't hate them solely because you know there are better books?
  3. Favourite characters thus far?
  4. Guys, guys, grab yourself a cuppa and read my review of my final game of bowls of the season. Did I manage to make it 15/15 and 100%. I know you're all dying to know. :P If not, as you were.

  5. Failed my driving test.. again. I am utterly useless.

I got mine on the third try - and most of the lousy drivers I know passed first time, so don't let it get to you. : )

Ah, I don't know Chrissy, it's a nerves thing. I can drive I just get myself way too flustered. But hey ho, there's always next time! :) x

  6. Thanks VF mate, hope everything is good with you.
  7. It was just ideal for what I needed, really. It didn't boost my reading because I'm in a bit of a drought but it's certainly great. My holiday was great thanks! Thanks. I most certainly do hate reading droughts, and I regret to say that even the laziness and relaxation of the holiday struggled to free me from my plight at the moment. As for the Kindle I think it's an absolute god-send. I had my reservations at first, being such a fan of the feel of real paper pages. Yet it managed to surprise me and I've loved it ever since. It's easy to use, space-saving, time-saving, and although I'll always buy books I think my Kindle will start to take over bit by bit. In any case, I'll write my holiday reading news in the next post - what little of it there is.
  8. I'm back and to my utmost surprise, it's cold. Two weeks of bliss. Now recharged and rearing to go.

  10. Perfect way to bounce back after the women's DQ, top notch. I sense a medal haul from the velodrome.
  11. Yeah, last year we were lucky that they never weighed my hand luggage. I'd packed way over the weight because of the amount of books I had decided to take with me, and if they had weighed it, decided I was over, then made me take some out and leave there, there would have been a fight between me and the security people. I'm playing safe this time and going with the sensible, Kindle option. I've got loads of fantastic books on there anyway so lots of options. As I'm sure I'll get fed up with reading Martin's series non-stop, I'm comfortable in the knowledge that I can still read many great books. Thank you very much, I will do my best.
  12. After much deliberation, I've decided simply to take only A Storm of Swords (Part 1) by George R. R. Martin on holiday.. Yeah, right; my only 'tree book' more like. I'm also taking my Kindle which I've spent the best part of today updating and I've got some absolutely marvellous books to read while I'm away. The 'A Song of Ice and Fire' books are going to be my main priority as I now own them all, and I'm halfway through the second book, A Clash of Kings. I'm pretty sure that'll be enough books as they're quite some length, but if I fancy a break from them I'll have numerous other choices at the press of a button. I don't care what anyone says, the Kindle is such a wonderful invention. Here's hoping that with two weeks in the sunshine it can help me end this reading drought.
  13. Who would of thought it eh.
  14. I'm halfway though A Clash of Kings and really enjoying it so far. Intend to read as many of them as I can on holiday in the next couple of weeks.
  15. YES, AND NOW GOLD IN THE SHOOTING TOO!
  16. Great day so far across the competition for the Great British athletes. Gemma Gibbons into the final of the women's -78kg category with a gusty and I believe somewhat unexpected performance (not that I know anything about Judo). Also, in the boxing Anthony Ogogo has knocked out the World Champion and world number one to get through to the quarter-finals. Elsewhere we're doing well in the sailing, have our canoeists through to the final, Murray through to the semi-finals (uh-oh!) and we picked up another silver in the rowing this morning. Great successes all around and still a strong chance of medals to come in the Velodrome. I knew we could do it.
  17. Boris Johnson joked that we had been quite kind in restraining ourselves from taking all the medals early on. I'm glad to see we're starting to grab a few.
  18. So this is how it feels to win medals? 2 gold & 2 bronze today, well done GB!
  19. OH YES. COME ON GB! GETTING EMOTIONAL HERE.
  20. Writing a rather patriotic and optimistic article about team GB's performance thus far at the Olympics. Thoroughly fed up of people complaining of a lack of medals; our athletes have done very well so far, and I'm proud to be British.

It's cos it's a home games I think people thought that we would be excelling. It's early days and the women are doing well anyway ;)

I think we're doing pretty well. Some of the countries ahead of us have massive populations to call upon. If we do well enough to get more investment into some of these sports, we will reap the dividends in future games. C'mon GB!

  21. She's passed fine, someone high up in the anti-doping agency confirmed it earlier. She's just unnaturally fast, folks. Some people get all the talent. I've really been enjoying the games so far. I mean, I would like it if we'd chalked up a few more medals (when China and USA already have 19 and we have a mere 4 it is a little demoralising). However, our athletes are performing marvellously so far and we can't really ask for anything more. We've had some marvellous, unexpected results to throw in with the disappointments, and the support for our athletes is just fantastic - what an experience for them all. This without even mentioning the fact that we haven't got to 'our' sporting finals yet. I'm sure there'll be many more medals to come but even if we didn't win another single medal for the entire competition (which won't happen), I'd still be delighted we get to watch some great, often tense, sporting master classes. It's all good fun.
  22. 12:40am. GB women's volleyball team ranked 69th. No funding for 2 years or championship-level play. Beat 16th-ranked Algeria in 5 sets. Incredible. Olympics. <3

  23. Thanks for all your birthday messages, had a good day. Slightly worried about this getting old business but there you have it. :P
