  1. Jessop was born and raised in the restricted and closed off world of the Fundamentalist Church of The Latter day Saints. At 18 , she was forced into a marriage with a man 32 years her senior. For 17 years she lived with his controlling ways and six other wives in a cramped house . She had eight children of her own and looked after numerous other children that were to his other wives. Her children and her were frequently mistreated in the house by her husband and the other wives and the laws and constraints of their religion over the years became increasingly strict and controlling. When the cult had a new leader Warren Jeffs. He was abusive to his wives , violent and he started marrying off girls at an extremely young age which motivated Jessop to escape with her children . I actually found this book to be very good. Jessop relates her story very well and it is incredible to read all the things that she was forced to endure. Definitely worth a read.
  2. 25 in my TBR pile but have ordered a few of books off Amazon so more to be added to the list!
  3. The Historical Mysteries sounds good, I look forward to your review.
  4. Have finished reading both Oryx and Crake by Maragaret Atwood and Veronika Decides to die By Paulo Cohelo. I enjoyed reading Veronika Decides to Die and would recommend it but was really disappointed with Oryx and Crake. I really loved The Handmaids Tale and although there were similarities between the two I found this one just too futuristic and found it hard to keep my interest in the book.
  5. Omg 20 years ago, I feel ancient now! I might try and buy the DVD sometime as I really used to love watching it.
  6. I am glad Bex went last night, she was just too annoying. I think that her and Luke had a great friendship but I don't think they were greatly attracted to eachother as they only seemed to snog when there was an impending eviction night.
  7. I used to love watching Moonlighting. I remember watching it every Thursady night on BBC2 after Clarence!
  8. Does anybody use this site and what are their opinions? I have signed up today and have made a started listing all my books and reviewing some. My username is the same as here .
  9. Thanks. I am going to Orlando in just over a week so I thought I would pick this one!

  10. Hello and welcome to the forum. Love your avatar.
  11. Finished reading Hidden Lives and have just started Oryx and Crake by Margaret Atwood.
  12. Same for me. Sometimes the next read just stands out to me on the bookcase.
  13. Rex and Belinda have been nominated for eviction. The housemates in heaven are getting all this nice food and Rebecca keeps going in a huff! They also had a huge food and drink fight last night and the house looked in a really big mess.
  14. I have found it quite boring to watch over the past few days. Maybe this leader of the house thing will liven things up a bit.
  15. Enjoy your meal out. We are having a salad with sliced beef.
  16. As a History graduate I have had to study the Holocaust in quite some depth and there are loads of inconsistencies and inaccuracies such as Hitler visiting a commandants house and especially just visiting with his wife and no bodyguards. The biggest one that I felt dubious about was Bruno was nine and although he is just a child, having a father in that position he would be familiar with Hitler and wouldn't mispronouce words such as Fuhrer and Auschwitz. But having said all that I still loved the book and know that it is meant to be a touching tale of Bruno and Shmuel's friendship rather than a historical account of what occured .
  17. Saturday night so a Chinese takeaway ( and a night off the diet!)
  18. I buy Now and Closer magazines most weeks and occasionally buy the BBC History magazine.
  19. I loved this book. It was really clever how there was no synopsis of the book, which had me intrigued . Although it is not historically accurate in places, it does not matter as that is obviously not its intention anyway. It is so well written and incredibly moving, one of the rare books which made me tearful at the end. Although quite a short book, it's very powerful and stays in your mind. Will definitely keep my eyes open for more of Boynes work.
  20. Glad that Mario is going but still want Rebecca to go as she is just so irritating.
  21. I remember reading Just Seventeen every week!
  22. I love Woody Allen films as well. My favourites are Manhattan and Hannah and Her Sisters.
  23. I agree. His treatment of her was horrible. It seemed to me that he was taking it all out on her because he was nominated and not her.
  24. I have this book in my TBR pile. Looking forward to reading it.
