Thanks both, I will check out that thread Chrissy. However I wouldn't want to use quotes without permission.

Mods please feel free to move this if necessary, was not sure where to put it!
I have an interview soon (am teacher) where I have to share a passion with a class of children. I have chosen books and thought it would be nice to share some quotes from people about why they love books. Would you mind sharing a line or two? Also interested in people who used to hate reading but love it now (if there is anyone like that on here;) )
Anyway once again hope this is ok to post:)

Reading all these posts makes me want to start up cross stitch again! Some lovely work here!

Then, when I came across 'Small Island', I thought - You won't be able to repeat that kind of standard. Wrong! She took the notch up a level and went better.
.
I have had this on my shelves for ages but have never felt like it. I think this will have to be my next read after your great praise!
-
Do you read for pleasure, thrills, to be scared, find the killer, learn, become well read, to be in with the crowd ie read the top ten books?
All of those apart from the last one. I just plainly enjoy books, the act of reading, buying and sharing.

Oh my goodness, this has just brought back so many memories! I think this was one of my favourite Point Horrors. Also, didn't it have a couple of sequels? Call Waiting was another of my favourite ones I have an incredible urge to read these again, although I think it's probably best if I leave them as a fond memory!
I love the OP, such a nice memory and passion for a book.
As for the references to Point Horror, I so want to re-read loads now!

I looked at this the other day and nearly got it, wish I had now!

I have read the first two and really enjoyed them both. I think the third will be what I pick up this evening as I have it on the shelf waiting to be read:)
-
I really enjoyed The Library of Shadows by Mikkel Birkegaard, I didn't think I would enjoy it quite so much as I did. The first three quarters gripped me and I couldn't put it down.

I live in Cambridge and will go have a look if you want? Let me know as any excuse is good to go in a book shop!

I've always been a reader. My mother was even a little bit scared because I was at home with my books all the time and did't want to go out with my friends. .
Snap, me too! She couldn't understand why I preferred staying in reading!

Born reader, one of my earliest memories is of reading and the NEED to read lots of books!
-
I have come back to visit here in the hope it revives my lost mojo! I am still obsessed with buying books but I haven't been able to read for ages!
-
Wow good to see this thread because today whilst shopping for some holiday bits I picked up some crss stitching kits! Used to do it ages ago but never really got much finished so really want to try again! I have loved looking through this thread at everyone else's projects, really great!

I am a school girl who has just discovered some mysterious islands called Arabat.

Because I can't avoid multitasking, I am simultaneously:
A winged dinosaur led, by the trail of the author of the finest short story ever written, into a city which full of antiquarian bookshops above and catacombs bursting with buried, forgotten, precious, dangerous books below.
I am loving the sound of this one! What is it?

Yesterday I read The Chrysalids by John Wyndham. This is the third of his I have read and so far not my favourite but I still really enjoyed it. It raised a lot of interesting issues and was a compelling read (as evidenced by the fact that I started and finished it in three hours!)
-
Sounds intrigueing! What's the book?
First one was The Chrysalids by John Wyndham. The second was Himalayas by Michael Palin.

According to this website there are 1154 days to go until the London 2012 Olympics. In order to help with a personal challenge I am going to take part in the Olympic challenge! Personal rules, lists and book ideas will come tomorrow. Tonight (this morning) I want to claim my space for this super challenge!
-
Does anyone know where there is an updated list for 2012? I looked on wikipedia but no joy unless I am being daft!
-
I think I will! I am hopefully visiting London tomorrow and going to hit some bookshops! So will treat myself to a book to start the challenge!

I have just left the future in a place called Labrador where being different can get you killed or banished. I am also following a man called Michael through the Himalayas.

Mine still hasn't arrived and it was dispatched ages ago!

I have recently become a big fan and this sounds like a great one, I will search it out thanks!
