  1. Thanks Rennie (I like your cat!)
  2. I saw R&J - they didn't actually mention any spoilers, which is not like them! Everybody concerned loved the book, and I really enjoyed hearing people discuss a book that I had loved so much.
  3. Thanks Fay and carm, still finding my way around, but trying to keep posting regularly.
  4. Thanks everybody. Just settling in . Also doing lots of this
  5. For the first time, I am reading along with the R&J reads, and so I'm really looking forward to the discussion on Wednesday. Perhaps we should agree to report back when we've seen it?
  6. I've just finished this and loved it so much. It was actually a 10/10 book for me. Superbly written and plotted, and the characterisations were excellent. Spoilers here so don't read them unless you have read the book: Such a wonderful read. The author has a website if anybody is interested Kate Morton PS Bagpuss, I LOVE your avatar!!!
  7. No, why? The only person I know here is Louiseog. I was just sympathising with the way books seem to find themselves in our possession!
  8. Thanks all, for your welcomes. Hi Louise Michelle, I can't imagine how the book found it's way into your house
  9. I found this forum due to the lovely louiseog who recommended it to me
  10. Well, that's really kind, thank you.
  11. Thank you all for the welcome. Elbereth, thanks for the compliment. I don't think Nicola is used as a name in the US is it, but it's not unusual here:)
  12. I was a bit disappointed by this book, but I'm not a great fan of fantasy. I did go to hear the author talk at Waterstones though and he was fab. He's really charismatic, and funny, and he signed loads of stuff after his talk.
  13. I found it a bit far-fetched, but as thrillers go it was an ok read. Not sure that it's something special though, although the story strays a bit from the norm, so that's a good thing. I'll look forward to hearing what you think of it.
  14. I'm reading along with the R&J books for the first time (unfortunately I set the video incorrectly on Wednesday night and missed the discussion). I'm now reading The House at Riverton and it's excellent. The Memory Keeper's Daughter was a bit slow, but I still thought it a reasonable read, and Relentless was all a bit far-fetched, but again an ok read.
  15. I couldn't get along with Kevin at all, and yet I loved The Post-Birthday World, and I thought it was a great idea. Love the 'Sliding Doors' concept. Shame about Ramsay's mockney accent though.
  16. I think I will have to jump on the bandwagon and say The Book Thief too. A wonderful book.
  17. Hello, my name is Nicola and I've just joined. It looks like a good place to talk about books, which is great, and I hope to be able to join in lots of threads. I'm currently reading The House at Riverton by Kate Morton, and I'm loving the fact that it's set in the past and the present.
