  1. I can understand this, and it's definitely related to the vast size of my TBR pile. I know I will never ever get to the end of it and it's a feeling of hopelessless, rather than chore really. I need to read about three times as fast!
  2. I'm really loving this programme. Ralf Little's character, Clint, is so funny.
  3. (Green, I love your avatar!) I'm reading One Moment, One Morning by Sarah Rayner at the moment. It's turned out to be a different read to what I thought it would be. I was expecting something much more edgy. I'm enjoying it though, and it's a very easy read.
  4. I was going to see Alice on Friday but it was too busy, so I went to see Leap Year instead, which was really funny and charming. I want to see A Single Man at some point.
  5. I've thought of another film that makes me sob - Incendiary, based on the book by Chris Cleave.
  6. I'll be watching Five Days and taping Married, Single, Other.
  7. I've just finished The Whole Wide Beauty by Emily Woof, and will be starting The Book of Fires by Jane Borodale later.
  8. It was absolutely brilliant. So simple in its execution, but so effective. I'd definitely recommend seeing it if possible. It's running until July
  9. Great, glad you liked it Nightwish (and hope I didn't spoil it for you). It's got a quirky feel to it and I'm really looking forward to the next episode too.
  10. I'm a Sheffielder born and bred.
  11. I read this last month and, to my surprise, I actually enjoyed it (I'm not normally into sci-fi or fantasy). Here is my review: This is a very odd book, but strangely enjoyable. Ariel is a PhD student with hardly any money to live on, and consequently hardly eats. She uses only one room in her flat, the kitchen, in which she has placed her settee. She turns up all the gas rings just to stay warm. She
  12. Was page 164 especially good then? I agree with you about the cover. What sort of age range would you say it is aimed at?
  13. I often abandon books if I'm not in the mood for them, or I'm not liking them. Usually I then get rid of the books by selling them on. Recently though I have been giving a lot of books a second go, usually ones that everybody seems to have loved, and by and large I've found that I have enjoyed them all the second time round. Examples are: The Time Traveler's Wife, Small Island, Julie and Julia, The Lovely Bones, The Woman in Black, Raven Black - I could go on. I think it's simply a case of changing tastes.
  14. I'm well into The Lost Art of Keeping Secrets by Eva Rice and am finding it a charming book. I'm not usually into 'hooray henry' books, but this one is well written.
  15. Ah well, soap storylines are all over the place well in advance, so I think you can be forgiven for that. Thanks for not minding about the spoiler - I'll look forward to hearing what you thought of the programme.
  16. Also the bit in Love Actually where Andrew Lincoln's character is stood at Keira Knightly's door with the cue cards.
  17. Nightwish, I'm so sorry. I think I might have given away a spoiler there:blush:. Please erase it from your mind! I'm usually so careful about these things too.
  18. Good, because I haven't read any! I really don't get along with classics, but I do like books that are based on true lives or stories.
  19. I tried to read the book when it was fairly new out, and just didn't like it at all. However, I then tried it again last month and loved it. Funny how tastes change. I've seen the film and it's not a patch on the book. Lots of stuff was left out and a lot of stuff was changed. I was expecting it to be quite an emotional film and I didn't really feel that. Still worth watching though.
  20. Linda Gillard is one of my favourite authors. In fact, her three books were my top three reads of 2009 (Star Gazing at 1, A Lifetime Burning at 2 and Emotional Geology at 3). I really think it's criminal that an author of this calibre is not better known and I'm desperate to read book 4.
  21. Did anybody watch this on Monday night? I wasn't sure what to expect and it had been plugged to death, but I really enjoyed it. It wasn't quite as lightweight as I had thought it might be. I'm looking forward to seeing how the relationships develop.
