  1. How about The Painted House - that was a real surprise, not at all his usual story. It was a really good read too.
  2. Can I be different and say I read about 2 to 3 chapters a day, usually at bedtime and breakfast time.
  3. Welcome Adam, you sound a great fella. What made you decide to go into the fire service? Apologies if I am being nosy:blush:
  4. I am sure some of yoou out there are interested or may even own a horse and I wondered if any of you have heard of a man called Monty Roberts. He is the original "Horse Whisperer" on which the book and then the film was based. The reason I am mentioning it on this forum is because he has written loads of books on the subject of training horses and is currently in this country giving demos. I read his first book on horses a few years back and found it riveting reading it was called The Man Who Listens To Horses by Monty Roberts You can find all the info on this link http://www.montyroberts.co.uk/
  5. Its become a tradition in my family for me to make the Christmas puddings. You have just reminded me that I will have to start thinking about the ingredients round about now.
  6. Wow did you see Colin Firth on Parkinson last night. Wasnt he something and what a lovely person he seemed. I also enjoyed Harry Connick Jnr, another lovely man. But what happened to Martin Clunes who was billed to appear. I cant remember the name of the jerk they had on in place of him, least said soonest mended.
  7. Baked beans on toast with added Worcestershire sauce. Very mundane, but this evening, I did peppers stuffed with cherry toms, garlic and sardines sprinkled with lemon juice. It may sound yucky but it was heaven
  8. Doctor Martin with Martin Clunes is back. I love that programme
  9. Youseem to have the same taste in tv programmes as me. I would only add wildlife programmes. However I must hold my hands up to watching The Bill, which is frequently cancelled for Football:motz:
  10. Not much of a story was it, I wonder how they spun it out into a 2 hour film!!
  11. Yes I have. I found it a little slow to start with, and I found the main character a little dull. But it all perked up a bit as the end was looming up.
  12. I absolutely loved these books as a girl. I read every single book Enid Blyton wrote. The Five Books were brilliant as were the Adventure Books. She was so good at capturing the imagination of children. Just as an aside dare I ask if anyone every read the Girls Crystal as a child/girl? I know I am going back a long way, but just thought some of you might be old enough.
  13. Michael Parkinson is back tonight for his absolutely last series, finishes at Christmas I believe. We always watch, but its not so good as when it was on BBC
  14. Thank you so much Kell. Now why didnt I think of doing that:blush:
  15. Kell that is sooooo funny!!!
  16. Sorry to show my ignorance, but when and why did it become the "Man" Booker prize? Wasnt it always the "Booker" prize?
  17. In bed mostly. Usually too busy any other time, although I do manage a page or two at breakfast time.
  18. Thank you for that Andy. I have started to read this book and have realised that its not a book to pick up and put down without being sure that you know where you got to the last time you picked it up. Phew!!! The reason I started to read it was because I wanted to know what he had to say about the subject and to see how much of it I would agree with . I havent got very far yet, just half way through Chapter 2.
  19. The Highwayman by Mathew Arnold (I think) has always been my favourite But I also like "If" by Robert Louis Stephenson and "Leisure" by Walter de la Mare.
