  11. Just passing through, having just read your comments on The Historian.

  12. After my trip to Wales, I have now picked up The Historian again and am really enjoying it. As you say Gelfing it does pick up the pace and I am into that now. I find it hard to put down now.
  13. Hi Michelle - this is a great idea - thanks

  14. I am glad to see the back of both those two. One was a bitch and the other had "something of the night" about her
  15. Doesn't that mean there should be an apostrophe after the s? If the day belongs to all singles??????? That is how I was taught anyway.
  16. Yes Gelfling I am enjoying it. As you say it is very atmospheric and I too like the slow building of the story, through the professor, then the father and now the daughter. I am on Chapter 26 and am really getting into it now. It is very well written and very descriptive. It is not a book you can read fast I find, you have to digest every word, otherwise you would miss the suppressed excitement of the tale.
  17. Still on The Historian - Chapter 13. I actually am enjoying it, its a big change to the most recent books I have read. Very unusual in the way it switches between father and daughter as narrators, but I dont find it irritating. I also like the style of the author's writing.
  18. This is Jodi Picoult's new book. I read the synopsis in the book shop and was amazed at the resemblance to Lionel Shriver's book "We Have to Talk about Kevin". Has anyone else seen this and if so do you think the same?
  19. Thanks for the review Nici. I have never read Ken Follet before, but this sounds right up my alley. Over 1,000 pages is a bit daunting, but I will make a note of this one, once my TBR list has gone down a bit.
  20. Is anyone watching the Tiger series on BBC1 at 8pm tonight? I have been and am reallying enjoying it. I love tigers, beautiful creatures and this series gets some really great close-ups by using cameras carried by elephants.
  21. I know I know, Prospero, I am a literary "pleb" and I dont care so there;)
  22. H&D sent in a request for me, but I havent received the magazine yet
  23. Started The Historian last night. Not sure about it. I dont know if it is fiction or non fiction. I will plod on.
