  1. Titanic. Difficult to pick the most annoying moment as there were so many, but I'm going for when him and her are clinging to the flat end of the ship, with people screaming and dying all around them, and she says to him something along the lines of 'Oh, Jack, this is where we first met' as if they'd been together for years instead of about 48 hours
  2. Hello. I've read and enjoyed a few Dalziel and Pascoe stories and have recently finished 'The Woodcutter' by Reginald Hill; a non-D&P crime story and well worth a read
  3. I'm not certain, David, but I believe that, because the format is different, you may be able to download books from the Amazon Kindle bookshop to another device but be unable to read them. Something to do with their being DRM protected, I think
  4. Thanks, bobblybear. I knew that American Kindle users could downloadbooks from their libraries so it's great news that British libraries are going to follow suit!
  5. Are you in the USA, bobblybear?
  6. I'll be watching this one! Read, and loved, the book so hope that the televised version does it justice
  7. I don't have one but my friend does and is delighted with it. One advantage over the Kindle is I think that, with the Kobo, you can download books from participating libraries. You still have to 'return' the book but it's a great idea and one that I wish Kindle would take up
  8. Sorry for the delay in replying. Hopefully you've found out how to access 'Minesweeper' and are enjoying it
  9. Thanks for posting the list of this year's contestants, Chesil. Really looking forward to this year's series. (Hope it's not going to turn out to be 'The Lulu Show' though)
  10. Hello David. Yes, I really like her writing style and I enjoyed 'One Good Turn'. Let's hope she keeps churning them out!
  11. Hello Sye. Regarding your question about Sandy, I have just finished the second of the Roy Grace novels and was wondering the same thing! Perhaps it's a cunning plan by Peter James to keep the punters hooked and reading his yarns.
  12. I would say that 'Behind the Scenes at the Museum' is the best book I've read this year (so far) and one that I will read again
  13. I haven't read that one yet, Roland. Hope you enjoy it (and your holiday). 'Behind the Scenes at the Museum' isn't a detective story but it's well worth a read. A well written and moving story, but with some nice dollops of humour
  14. Anyone else read the JB novels written by Kate Atkinson? I'm loving them. Haven't seen the televised version (Case Histories on BBC) yet. Thought I'd read all the books first
  15. Yes, he doesn't hold up very well under interrogation, does he?
  16. I've whiled away a few minutes playing 'Minesweeper' on my Kindle. There's another game on there, too, but I haven't played that yet

I like both Nadal and Federer but it would be nice to see someone else win this year. I am hoping for a Richard Gasquet victory or, failing that, Jo-Wilfred Tsonga
  18. I think they have adapted her Jackson Brodie books for the TV and lumped them all under the title 'Case Histories'. This last week's episodes were from her novel 'When will there be good news?' Not a J Brodie book, but I can recommend 'Behind the Scenes at the Museum' by Kate Atkinson.

Yes it was a shame, Ben. I was sorry to see Roddick going out today, too.

Cracking match on today between Leyton Hewitt and Robin Soderling. Leyton was two sets to love up at one time but Soderling has leveled the match. I really hope that Leyton can do it. Think he may retire soon so it would be good to go out in style
  21. Pixie - you can also get a lot of free classics on the Gutenberg Project site. Because it is an American site (I think) the copyright laws are different to ours and so you have to be a bit careful. For instance, I wanted to download some P G Wodehouse stuff that was free on their site but would have infringed our copyright laws (something to do with PG not having been dead for 70 years, I believe) so I bought them in the end from Amazon
  22. Hello and welcome, Helen
