I was really disappointed with last night's episode.
I loved the first two, but this one just bored me. I hope it goes back to its usual high standard!
-
There's a couple of ads for beds that make me laugh (I don't know if they're both for the same company). There's the one where the couple are in bed and springs are popping up on the wife's side - the husband just smirks until one comes up on his side. His pained expression and the "ooh!" tell you where it's gone!!
The other one is where the fluffy ginger cat gets catapulted (no pun intended) up in the air by the mattress spring! (Sorry to all you cat lovers!)
-
I thought I heard something about a Sunday afternoon repeat, but I don't know any details.
-
Just to
off people like me, I think!
-
I'm sticking with it so far. I want to know when it's coming back - there was a trailer last night but it just said "Coming Soon". Grr.
-
I love this show! It's great, with a lot of humour. I saw the pilot before Xmas and then watched it again with the next episode on Monday.
The portrayal of the High School "caste" system reminded me of Buffy. Are American High Schools really like that? Everyone's so cruel! I was so glad when the football guy stepped in to save the disabled guy they'd locked in the portaloo.
I like the main teacher guy - isn't his wife a nightmare? "I'm on my feet four hours a day, three days a week here!"
And to deceive him how she is... Can't wait for the next episode.
-
The one with the bloke in the psychiatrists chair who opens his mouth and audio for classic adverts comes out.
I quite like that one, I remember all the classic ads he comes out with!
I don't like the Evian babies one, it's creepy.
The bed one where the spring goes and the cat gets catapulted up in the air makes me laugh.

I watched the final episode for the second time last night, and it was just as emotional for me as the first time. I forgot to say before that the plot twist regarding "he will knock four times" was brilliant. Everyone had that sussed, yeah yeah, it's the Master who will knock, and then... Superb acting from David as he realises he's still alive and just begins to relax and be happy - a second later the four knocks sound and it's WILF!! A brilliant but heartbreaking twist.
I thought the Doctor was rather bitter and petulant in his rant at this point, but it was understandable. I actually thought at one point that he wasn't going to save Wilf.
That bit had me in tears, with Wilf telling the Doctor to leave him. *sniff*

I still think it would have been better if
Rose had never come back. For me, the return appearances have taken away from the awesome emotional ending to series two (which has me in floods of tears every single time).
I agree that the emotion has been undermined by her reappearances. They said they could never meet again, and then suddenly it's "ooh, time's breaking down and I'm back again!" I said at the time that I felt somewhat cheated of all the emotion I invested in that ending (I too was in tears).
But, I think these "get out of jail free" jobbies happen frequently. Just look at Donna in these last episodes - it was all "she can never remember or her mind will burn". Then suddenly she's remembering, but it's okay, she just has to sleep for a while and she'll be fine.
I mean, I'm very very glad she didn't die, but...!
-
Yes, but it was supposed to be
a meeting before she ever met the Doctor, and yet she looked far too old for that. In the Doctor Who timeline, it was meant to be just before she meets the ninth Doctor for the first time
Some good points there in your post. I was a bit slow, it took me a few moments to realise that
it was before she'd met the Doctor. I was wondering why she didn't recognise him!
And, there is no way I thinkMickey would have married Martha or vice versa
. Sorry, but that's just not believable to me.
I totally agree, I forgot about this bit. In fact (being slow again) I didn't
even recognise Mickey at first! It was only when Martha said his name that I realised. Duh. But I don't think they'd be together either.
I would rather have left it with one final visit back toDonna's wedding
and left it at that. Even more evidence that this was self indulgent on RTDs behalf to
bring back all "his" characters.
I didn't really mind the self-indulgence. I thought it wrapped everything up nicely
and let us see some well-liked characters for possibly the last time, so I liked it. I would have liked Donna's wedding to have been the last "visit" though. And funnily enough, the booksigning visit had me in tears. Weird.
Anyway, there may be some logical reasoning behind all this that I haven't spotted (being slow again), but when exactly
did a Doctor ever have time to fit in an epic trip down memory lane between receiving a mortal wound etc and regenerating? It usually happens pretty much instantaneously. Though I suppose he travelled back and forth in time and did it all in about 10 seconds.
-
I wasn't at all impressed with the first part - the word that summed it up for me was "bonkers". Just what was RTD on when he wrote that? It was rather a disappointment. And the Master in a dress is just ridiculous.
The second part however... I watched that today and it was like it was written by another person; it was so much better. I really enjoyed it. And I cried... and cried. The bits where I got upset weren't the bits I expected to get so upset at though, it was weird. When Tennant's saying that he doesn't want to go, I'm being very unsympathetic and shouting at the TV, "Well, you didn't have to! It's your own bloody fault for deciding to leave!" But I was getting very upset about Wilf, Donna etc...
It had more endings than the last LOTR film, but I didn't mind at all.
I'm so glad
that Wilf didn't die, as I fully expected him to. And it looks like Donna's going to be a lottery millionaire! Hurrah! She deserves some reward for saving the whole of creation.
Not knowing much Dr Who backstory, I didn't realise that the Time Lords were such insane nutters. I thought it was very telling and clever that
the Doctor refused to take Wilf's gun until he learnt the Time Lords were back, then he took it straight away with such a terrified look on his face.
I also liked the fact that the Doctor and the Master couldn't kill each other in the end, but finished off their common enemy.
I too thought the woman was the Doctor's mother, judging by how he looked at her.
Brilliant acting by all the cast (even Billie Piper had got rid of that annoying lisp), especially by Tennant, who I really rate as an actor anyway, and Mr Cribbins.
Although growing up Tom Baker was my Doctor, my favourite will always be David Tennant. I'm afraid Matt Smith is going to have to work very hard to win me over, I'm sorry but I don't like the look of him, he's too young and rather strange looking. Harsh, but I'm afraid that's what I think.

I haven't read the book, so I can't compare it to that, but it was pretty poor.
I hated Dougray Scott as the lead - he's got one of those low, monotone voices and I couldn't tell what he was saying half the time.
Eddie Izzard - I can't stand him anyway.
I couldn't understand why someone didn't just shoot him. At least he got his comeuppance eventually.
The Triffids themselves were of the sub-Dr Who effects circa1960s type, pathetic rubber things that were laughable. I'd have thought that in this day and age of CGI etc they could have done something better.
What did I like about it? Er...
The two sweet gun-wielding girls made me laugh and probably had more bravery than anyone else, but they probably weren't in the book anyway.
The second episode was better than the first (not difficult), but all in all it was pretty dire. I expected so much more.

Hmm, good point!
Zac is really annoying me at the moment, being all uppity about Lisa doing the nude modelling to get the money for Belle's laptop. I don't see that lazy scrote doing anything to try and get any money, and then he slags Lisa off for actually working to get their daughter's pressie. Grr.
Well, it's all kicking off with Ryan/Maisie and Mark/Faye. Should get very interesting!

I must be the only person who thinks that advert is sick. I wish they would ban it.
I'm obviously too sensitive for my own good.

I'm really pleased that Chris and Ola won!
It kind of goes against my principles in that Chris wasn't the best dancer, but as the best dancer (Ali) had already gone out of the competition I decided I could throw my principles to one side!
I thought they made a great couple. Chris just seemed like a nicer bloke than Ricky somehow, and I'm so pleased for Ola as she is one of my favourite pro dancers. Bless her, she couldn't stop crying with happiness. Aww. I loved their Charleston, it just put a big smile on my face.
I think everyone expected Ricky to win, so I was most pleased when he didn't!
All in all though, I have been quite disappointed with this series, and found it pretty lacklustre. I didn't even know who most of the celebrities were when they were announced.
Also, after giving Alesha the benefit of the doubt for the whole series, I've decided that she just doesn't work as a judge. Nothing against her personally, I wanted her to win when she danced, but she's not exactly full of informative comment or constructive criticism, is she? Even I could sit there and say "You was wicked!"
Bring back Arlene!!

Yes, I feel the same way about this series.
There's just something really compelling about it, you have to keep on reading. It's definitely for more "mature" young adults, especially the themes of the second one, which include terrorism and the subjugation of women.
I finished the second one (The Ask and the Answer) a few weeks ago after reading it very quickly - I couldn't put it down. It's pretty uncompromising and quite horrific what happens to the women and the Spackle (who are the species native to the planet).
Wolfsbane - it's true that you think "what could possibly go wrong now?"! Just when things seem to be working out, something bad happens.
I can't wait for the third book either, and I can't recommend this series highly enough. I wish more people had heard of it.
A short thread about the first book can be found here: http://www.bookclubforum.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=6910&highlight=knife+letting
(Hope I did that right, I've never tried putting a link in before.)

So this year's popularity contest rolls on. Well, it's obviously not a contest to find the best dancer, is it? Gah.
The only thing I hope for the final is that neither couple try to attempt anything even remotely close to the World Champions show dance - that sort of thing just leaves me cold. It looks like a mixture of weightlifting and gymnastics, and I can never find any musicality in the routines.I thought that as well. It's basically a woman lifting her legs at impossible angles whilst being thrown around by a strongman, and though it was impressive, it was not really dancing as such. And I'm sure he nearly dropped her a few times!
-
I just can't really see it with Ricky... I think he's very over-rated to be honest. His dancing is very inconsistent. I'm not saying he isn't good, just that he's not as good as everyone says.
The male celebs seem to get an easier ride than the females - as long as they don't fall over or forget their steps, everyone thinks they are wonderful, yet the females have to be perfect!
-
I really enjoy Merlin, it's consistently good entertainment. I love the relationship between Arthur and Merlin and the humour it brings. And now Morgana's going over to the dark side!!
-
I'm glad Anton and Laila went, they were the worst dancers.
What a treat to see Vincent and Flavia do their Argentine Tango!
I'm a bit worried about Flavia this series though. She seems to have lost her sparkle and something doesn't seem right. Hope she's not ill or something.

I know Laurel leaves Ashley and goes to her Mum's,exit for the actress who plays Laurel, she is having a baby in real life.
Is she coming back? She's not leaving for good is she? I couldn't stand it if Sally became a permanent fixture.
now nathan and the bunny boiler would make a lovely couple, we could buy them a suitcase and a ladder so they can run away to gretna green:friends0:Good idea!
-
Ha! So Sally has finally shown her true colours to Laurel - she was pretty creepy. I just wish Laurel had had a tape recorder hidden somewhere when she admitted what she was up to. No doubt Sally will be trying to have her sectioned next!

and just saw this by Mia ....
I tried being patient, but it took too long...
It's from Buffy, I think it's spoken by Anya. I thought it summed me up quite well, as patience is not one of my strong points!
-
However, we're going to have to agree to disagree here ... I'm glad Rachel Stevens didn't win last year, as I think while she was good technically, I never felt she danced because she loved it, and I never felt a connection between her and Vincent as a couple. I would still have rather it be Rachel than Tom though - my vote(s) went to Lisa & Brendan!
Lol, I thought there was a good connection between Rachel and Vincent!
I'd have rather Lisa won it than Tom as well - I hated Tom and Camilla's comedy dance that everyone else raved over.
They have all danced the Viennese Waltz already in the competition, but what I feel is unfair is that it's much easier for the female celebrities, as their male professionals are used to the scenario, and could lead them out of trouble, whereas the male celebrities can only really lead a choreographed routine and wouldn't have the experience to improvise to avoid collisions or blocking. That's a good point, I never would have thought of that.
The professional modern take on the foxtrot was danced to

I'm happy to hear someone else likes Rose Madder apart from me!
It doesn't seem to be one of his most liked books, but I really enjoyed it.
