  1. Equilibrium is one of my favourite films - very intelligent and powerfully performed. Stunning choreography with the gun kata too - really beautiful.

Couldn't agree more. I loved this film. I found it a kind of mix of 1984 and The Matrix. I think Christian Bale's performance is excellent (well actually, all the performances are).

  2. Vladd, maybe you shouldn't bother. This is getting poorer by the week and this week's episode was the worst so far. It's not a patch on the original, and pinching original episode titles to change and use for themselves (ie Anvil this week) and adding a bit of nasty violence doesn't make it better than the original or more interesting. It had better pull its socks up. :D

  3. This second part was better than the first. I felt sorry for poor Amy, especially when the Doctor was barking "She's going to die - deal with it" (or words to that effect). Very tactful and caring. :D

I still hate Matt Smith's portrayal of the Doctor. I was hoping he might grow on me, but he's becoming even more irritating.

  4. I didn't enjoy last night's episode much. I know it seems daft saying this considering Glee is all about singing and dancing, but there was too much singing!! I didn't know or like the songs and it felt like they were just there to pad out a weak story. I don't like April either (or her voice).

  5. I didn't think the second episode was anywhere near as good as the first. There wasn't enough pace, it just trundled along without much happening, which was fine for the first episode when it was setting the scene, but now things need to get going. If this were the original, I'm sure Six would have been subjected to brainwashing, interrogation and being pumped full of truth drugs by now, rather than Two suggesting that he might like to talk to a therapist. ;) It needs to get a move on.

It did mess with my mind slightly when the ocean was there and then it had disappeared! What was all that about?

And I found out that the woman in the bed was Two's wife, and 1112 his son. But overall, not enough is happening yet.

SueK - please give it another episode - no-one else here seems to be watching it so I can't talk to anyone about it! :)

  6. Last night's Madonna episode was great. ;) I especially liked Sue's elves/cookies hair putdown to Will. :) The Cheerios routine was very impressive with the stilt walkers.

Everybody changes their allegiances at the drop of a hat though, don't they? Like Mercedes and the gay one (forgotten his name) defecting to the Cheerios just because Will stuck up for himself.

  7. You might like Lian Hearn's series of books that begin with Across the Nightingale Floor. They're supposedly young adult, but I'd call them quite a challenging read maybe for that age group. The best way I can describe them is historical with a slight fantasy bent.

The first three are excellent. I believe Hearn has written two more, but I haven't read those yet.

  8. Mia, I tend to agree. I'm not getting Matt Smith's doctor, and I'm finding Amy a bit annoying. Even River annoyed me, and I liked her in the library two-parter.

Thank goodness I have some old episodes I can go back and watch! :D

Michelle, that's twice now we've agreed in this thread - something's definitely up! :D

Amy can be annoying, and like you, River really annoyed me, but I wasn't that keen on her before. And why didn't she die instantly when she was sucked into space? I suppose there was some ray-thingy from the Tardis keeping her safe or something. :D

    Bring back David Tennant!!

  9. I don't know, I'm just not getting into this series at all... :D

I loved Blink - one of my favourite episodes ever (and David Tennant was hardly in it, so the fact I liked it shows how good it was!). I was a bit ambivalent about whether I wanted the angels to return, or whether it was best left as a perfect memory. Although some parts of this episode were quite good, I found myself bored in others. Perhaps the tension would have been cranked up more if it had been done in one episode, like the original, rather than in a sprawling two-parter.

This is probably a daft question, but if the angels can't move when you're looking at them, why don't the people just move them so that they're facing each other, like what happened at the end of Blink? Has that been conveniently forgotten? And why the new thing about not looking the angels in the eyes? That wasn't mentioned before.

I just feel no emotional connection with this series so far, and that is down to Matt Smith's portrayal of the Doctor. I just can't stand him, and he's not growing on me.

  10. Well it's one redeeming feature was that a certain Mr Tennant was in it :motz:

I liked Gridlock too! And I agree, any episode with David Tennant is going to be superior to this series, just because he's in it. So there! :motz:

  11. Lea Michelle's character cant remember the name, is really starting to annoy me, she looks like shes grimacing in pain when she sings

Yes, I agree. When she was singing Hello in the shop, every five seconds she closed her eyes and screwed up her face like she was constipated. It's starting to be irritating.

  12. Ooh, I read the Transformation series and loved it! There are two more in the series, Restoration and one-whose-name-escapes-me. But they were really good. Definitely worth carrying on, Rune. :motz: I haven't read any of her other works though.

  13. Ok, as much as I love Glee (which I might have mentioned once or twice) last night's episode didn't feel right.

I agree. I found it very boring, to be honest. I kept flicking over and watching bits of The Prisoner, I found it that dull! There were a couple of duff episodes in the first half season, so hopefully it will improve again.

  14. Kylie, don't you realise that that woman was obviously far more important than you and couldn't possibly wait a few moments? :( Some people are so rude... hope you still managed to enjoy the painting. :D

That's terrible! It reminds me of an incident here a few years ago. A distraught woman was standing on the Ship Canal Bridge in Seattle (which is part of Interstate 5, a very busy freeway), contemplating suicide. This bridge is very, very high. She had caused traffic to stop, and while the police were trying to talk her down, the irritated drivers were all shouting at her to jump...which she did. Somehow she survived, but just barely. I can't believe people would urge a distraught woman to end her life, just so they can get out of a traffic jam!

There was a bit in the paper a few days ago... A woman had been threatening to throw herself off a high place and was holding up traffic. An idiot DJ called Steve Penk (no, me neither) said over the air that she should hurry up and do it, then played Jump by Van Halen!! :D

Back in Italy I once fell down half a flight of underground steps onto the platform. I couldn't move, let alone get up; I was lying flat, clutching my ankle, crying my eyes out [an ambulance later revealed a dislocation, I needed to borrow a wheelchair from A&E to get home], yet the only people who eventually stopped and struggled to get me to my feet were a middle-aged nun and an elderly couple. Literally hundreds of perfectly able-bodied students and city workers just looked past me and went on their ways.

I remember once I was in town with my mum and an elderly lady was lying on the ground. Everyone was just ignoring her, and we actually heard people saying things like "fancy being drunk at this time of the morning". She wasn't drunk, she had had a bad fall. We called an ambulance and stayed with her until it came, but no-one else bothered. I don't know why people jump to conclusions like that. :D

My personal bug-bear is when you have been using a product for years and then suddenly it had the dreaded words "New and improved recipe/formula" plastered all over it. And now it's rubbish!! This has happened to me recently with Morrison's chicken and pasta bake, Aldi's fromage frais and Nivea lipsalve. They never actually improve things. Stop ruining things - if it ain't broke, don't fix it!!! :D

  15. As a huge fan of the original 1960s TV series, I had to admit that when I first heard they were going to re-make The Prisoner, my first thought was "Sacrilege!". But I have to say, I really enjoyed the first episode on Saturday.

I think it successfully captures the paranoid atmosphere of the village, and the desert is a good alternative to Portmeirion.

Ian McKellan was excellent as Number 2 (nicely menacing yet charming), and Jim Caviezel (sp?) was also good as a confused Six.

I loved spotting all the little nods to the original, such as Six banging his hand down on the desk and making the teacup jump, just like in the opening credits of the original (I'm a bit sad like that).

Also nice to see Rover make a belated appearance, right at the end.

At the moment, I can't fault it much. It's similar to the original, but also its own series, possibly by having Six suffer from amnesia. I'm also trying to work out if the woman at Two's place is his wife or daughter, as that would make the youth his son/grandson. By the looks he was giving Six, I would say the lad wanted out of the village too.

The only changes I would have made would have been to have kept the mini-moke taxis and had penny farthing number badges!

It's also a shame that Patrick McGoohan died before he could do his cameo role. I wonder what he would have made of this remake...

  16. What a complete load of utter cobblers! That was one of the worst (if not the worst) episode of "New Who" I've ever seen.

The Daleks are probably my fave villains, but I agree with those who said they've been over-used lately. Their menace is kind of diluted the more we see them. Just bring them out for special occasions!

The storyline was dull, dull, dull.

Why did nobody even bat an eyelid at Amy's dress? I'm sure wearing a skirt that short in the 1940s would have caused a few double-takes at least, regardless of them being slightly busy fighting a war.

And what was all that with the Doctor having a jolly good think about whether to sacrifice the Earth or get rid of the Daleks? I thought he was supposed to be the Earth's defender, so thanks a bunch mate for considering letting the whole planet perish. :D Especially as, if my memory serves me correctly, (which it probably doesn't), the previous Doctor had a right old go at his clone for supposedly committing genocide when he destroyed the Daleks. So his views on genocide then don't tally with his views now. He may have a different appearance now, but he is meant to be the same person, isn't he?

    Space spitfires - ridiculous.

The Jammy Dodger malarkey - don't even get me started.

  17. When I used to work for Kwik Save (that's a blast from the past), they had a system where the cashier had a spare trolley at their checkout. The customer would wheel their laden trolley up to this other one, the cashier would have to lean right across and down and physically pick each item up out of the customer's trolley, enter the price (this was when we had to memorise all the prices), and place it in the empty trolley. The customer would then take this trolley over to the side to pack at their leisure. No wonder I knackered my back working there. :friends0:

I don't expect cashiers to pack my bags for me in the supermarket I go to (Morrison's). Sometimes they ask if I need help, but I always say no.
