I've always thjought that Needful Things never gets enough credit. It really is an amazing read and I think the whole concept of it is genius. It's so interesting how he plays all the characters off of each other.
I couldn't agree more! It's kind of a "quiet" novel and very under-rated, but it is very cleverly done. I enjoyed it.

I hated The Tommyknockers and have never re-read it. But that's just my opinion!
-
I'm about 150 pages in and enjoying it so far. I'm finding it to be a good page-turner that caught my interest straight away, unlike his last two which I gave up on very quickly and are still languishing unread on my bookcase.
I've heard the ending is rubbish, but still... I'll find out for myself.
I really hate two characters already, but they're two the reader is supposed to hate so that's okay.

I just wanted to briefly say that I really enjoyed Unseen Academicals. Football is a subject ripe for mickey-taking, and Terry really wrung the humour and satire out of it. I liked the characters of Glenda and Mr Nutt, and I loved the fact that there was slightly more Vetinari in it than usual (he's one of my favourite characters). Great!

This is to be my next book for my bedtime reading...hope the bed doesn't break ung the weight
Now I've bought my copy, I see what you mean Heather! The **** thing's the size of a housebrick! I'm just glad I didn't buy the hardback copy - I'd probably need a crane to lift it.
-
I finally bought Unseen Academicals in papaerback.
I love the cover. its the UK one.
I'm about halfway through it and loving it so far!

Just started watching Doctor Who with David Tennant and have to admit, he is rather adorable. Much better than the Matt Smith episode I tried a while back.
Yes!! Thank you CaliLily. Stick that in your pipe and smoke it, Smith fans!

I hate all the HSBC ads, particularly the one they've just brought back where the guy goes to investigate why the washing machines are so popular in India. The whole look of it is horrible and when he pulls the face at the end with the orange moustache it makes me feel ill. Eww.
The Halifax ones also get instantly muted whenever they come on, and I'm not keen on the patronising ones (is it Natwest?) where the guy is growing money and the girl is trying to keep plates spinning.

I was just going to say that I really hate the Flake advert! Something about the way everything's billowing about makes me feel slightly nauseous for some reason!
-
It's a shame that so many are assessing his ability to be the Doctor on how good looking he is, anyone remember Hartnell, Troughton, Pertwee, McCoy etc?
I've asked myself a few times if I'm doing this, but I don't think I am - "my" Doctor was Tom Baker, and you could hardly call him handsome either.
I think therefore I'm basing my opinion on the fact that he is a **** actor and is just not right for the role.
-
Ewww... Is there a throwing up smiley I can use? Noll, you are welcome to him!
I really need to get a DT avatar piccie to try and redress the balance of all these Matt Smith pics that are proliferating here.

And my my didn't Matt Smith look dashing towards the end?!
Dashing? I don't think that's the word I'd use...
Right, I've given it a whole series and come to the following conclusions:
Some good stories and some poor ones (just like any other series of DW).
Amy has become more irritating as the series has gone on.
Rory is a sweetheart.
And... I hate Matt Smith. He's very strange looking (and I'm being polite there). But that's mostly irrelevant in the face of my main objection to him: He Is Not A Good Actor. He cannot act. Following Tennant makes it even more apparent. Tennant could convey a whole range of emotion just with one expression. Smith has just two expressions - the over-the-top-slightly-mad one and the block-of-wood one. I can't believe out of everyone they auditioned he got the job.
Well, I know plenty of people on here think he's great, so I'll get myself off into hiding now.
-
I just wish I'd recorded the bit where Rory punched the Doctor, so I could watch it on a continuous loop for the next few days.

Oh no, why don't you like Paddy?!
I can't stand Eve
I just find his bumbling ways really annoying! I think he's a bit of a strange bloke. I can't stand Eve either. I hate people who pursue people they know to be married.
not sure I would like to matchmake for Nathen, I agree no one deserves him! Perhaps he mother may be taking him for a walk in the woods too:day:.I do hope so! The sooner the better!
I really hope that Paddy and Chas don't get back together, for one thing, Paddy seems to be over here and the other, he can do better!Yeah, Chas isn't really the best is she? I find her quite annoying too!
-
Well, I can't really stand Paddy (though he has been good with Aaron) so I would match him with someone odious, and there's only one person who springs to mind with that description - Nathan!! Although maybe I don't dislike Paddy quite that much: no-one deserves Nathan.
I can see Paddy getting back with Chas actually, particularly as Carl seems to be gearing up for a fling with Eve. If Chas found out, she could well go back to Paddy. Hmm...
-
Aw, poor bloke. But I suppose that character doesn't really do anything or have any major storylines anymore. He makes me laugh though!
-
And just to add ~ Nathan!!!! (can he be any more annoying)Nathan is about to be entered in the next print of the oxford dictionary as an expletive..........I can't stand him, I hope he is nice in 'real' life lol, not taking his alter ego as an example!
Nathan! Every time he's on screen I just want someone to kill him. What an oily, obnoxious, slimy, nasty little twerp. He gets me so cross!
-
Harry Potter for me too, as you kind of get two worlds for the price of one! You can divide your time between the "normal" world and the magical one, and when one gets too much you can just swap. Yeah, I want to have my cake and eat it!
-
I just had to mention the following exchange between Chas and Paddy:
Chas:"I've just seen Aaron and Jackson carrying wood."
Paddy:"Is that a euphemism?"
Absolutely hilarious!

They put Matt Smith in a box - Yay!!
Nice one Michelle! I actually thought that he might be in the box when it first opened, but then that all got a bit paradoxy and my brain started to hurt so I gave up on that theory.
I was gripped for the first 30 mins, it was like Doctor Who used to be in the Tennant glory days (ha!). But then I sort of lost interest...
I thought Amy's encounter with the Cyberman head was very cool though.
And the bit at the beginning where the poor prison guard was covering "River" and it was the drawing was funny.

At the moment I really like the Vodafone advert where the daughter phones her dad after splitting up with her boyfriend.
I really hate that one! I think it's half because I'm jealous of her having such a caring dad who drops everything to go to her, and half because I despise her for being so pathetic.
I hate all the Halifax ones, I have to mute them whenever they come on.
I only recently saw the Lou and Andy football one for Nationwide - that made me laugh!
-
Who the hell are you, and where is Mia?
All I can think is that someone nicked my password and logged on as me.
Maybe that's one of the things which made it a better episode for me - as the series has gone on, she's annoyed me more and more.I wish they wouldn't have Amy shout so much though.I've always liked Amy, but in this last episode she really did annoy me! Admittedly, Karen Gillan had a tough job as all she had to do was shout and fall around the Tardis, so I guess there wasn't much she could do with that! But she is getting slightly more irritating as time goes on. At least she was finally wearing some sensible jeans this week!
-
Hold onto your seats - I actually really enjoyed that episode!
I didn't think I would, as I can't stand James Corden, and the prospect of watching two people I hate for 45 minutes was not something I was looking forward to. But it was great! The Doctor was less annoying than usual, and even Corden didn't irritate me once.
The script just seemed more natural than usual, with some good humour, and the story was gripping.
I didn't really get why they could suddenly touch the pilot thingy without being harmed, just because they were thinking about how much they wanted to stay.
And poor Sophie was obviously mentally unbalanced or needed glasses, as I'm sure she looked at the Doctor and then said something like "You didn't tell me he was so handsome". Very strange.

Ack!
Michelle, please could I report an offensive avatar picture? It's the one Raven currently has.

I've read this and enjoyed it. It was a very gripping story and I liked the way nothing was black and white; I thought that was quite realistic.
