  1. But what has the crown? Doctor Who?
  2. Gah! I watch Robin Hood and Primeval, and I bet they're on at the same time. I prefer Merlin to be honest, but at least I'll be able to watch Guy of Gisburn in Robin Hood!
  3. Watched it last night and haven't quite decided about it yet! It was quite good, but I'm not sure I like the main character enough, he's smug and quite annoying. He's probably meant to be like that, but if I can't like him I won't be able to get into the series. He's good looking though!
  4. My first King was either Firestarter or Carrie (probably Firestarter). I'm a sucker for stories involving psi powers, so I think I saw the film of Firestarter and then had to read the book. After that, it was Carrie and then The Shining (a slight pattern here, methinks).
  5. Speaking of car ads, I used to like the Vauxhall Zafira ones with the two little Yorkshire lads taking the part of the grown-ups! That was really funny and the boys were great, they delivered their lines in the exactly right dry Yorkshire way.
  6. I thought it was the wrong decision, but I guess if Anita hadn't gone last night it would only have been postponing the inevitable, as she wasn't ruthless enough to do well. I thought she was a bit of a scapegoat, as she was told only to give a total spend, which she did. Okay, she didn't use her initiative and point out they should be spending less, but no-one else did either (I think there was one lone voice who quietly said that, but she was ignored). She seemed to be fired purely because she said "Well done girls for coming in under budget"! Debra was a liar - she denied saying the "puppets" thing when she clearly did. I don't like liars, but Sralan obviously doesn't mind them because he didn't punish that guy last year who lied on his CV (didn't he win?). Mona was useless as a leader. Whenever Sralan mentioned a business plan she looked bewildered and changed the subject - she obviously didn't know what he was talking about! I would have preferred Debra or Mona to go.
  7. I agree! That lad's the worst, deigning to stay as though he was doing them a big favour, and it's not even Donna's house! I'd have slapped him around the head and helped him on his way with a boot up the behind. I thought it was funny the other day when the DHS woman turned up just as Toadie had the two lads in a headlock! Typical bad timing. At least she didn't take it seriously.
  8. I've seen the trailers so many times because they always show them around Neighbours and Home and Away! I'm looking forward to this.
  9. Happy Birthday Laura! :balloons: I hope you're having a great day. :)

  10. I liked Needful Things too. Another one due a re-read! It was a very good character study and very clever how everyone was manipulated.

Happy Birthday Nici!! :balloons: Hope you have a lovely day.

  12. Same as Baggiesfan, I enjoyed this one. I love the tense, race-against-time atmosphere King creates and I liked the heroine. I think this book is often overlooked, perhaps because people are put off by how the heroine finds herself in the predicament she does, but that is only the set-up for the excellent writing that follows. I've only read it the once; maybe it's time for a re-read!
  13. I liked Carrie! It was one of the first King books I read. Nope! I was cheering her on too! And IT is well worth finishing. I've read Blaze and I really enjoyed it. Go for it!
  14. I just wonder whether the guy has washed his hands before he starts flour-coating all that chicken...
  15. Happy Birthday! :balloons:

  17. I think that's very probably right, Michelle. Maybe I'm so "stuck" in the Discworld style that when he does something different I don't like it. As you say, you were able to go to it with no preconceptions. That's interesting what you said about the big Discworld fans not liking it so much. I thought I was the only one that didn't like it!
  18. Michelle said earlier in this thread that she hoped I didn't buy the book on her recommendation, dislike it and send her the bill, to which I replied the following: Ha! How wrong can a person be?! Michelle, one bill coming your way! Well, I finally finished Nation last night, after taking about three months to read it, which is an unheard of time for me to take to read a Pratchett book. I can't say I really enjoyed it. I loved all the characters, especially Daphne and Mau. I also loved finding out about the island and the traditions. But I think the main problem for me was that I just found the way the story was written boring. Every time I put the book down, I didn't want to go back to it. Reading it seemed like a chore rather than something enjoyable. I thought Terry had toned down his humour rather too much, perhaps in order to make us think and beat us around the head with the book's "messages". Yes, it made you think, but perhaps it could have been done in a less boring way? I found it a relief when I finally finished the book, and this is from someone who loves Pratchett's work. Perhaps I just prefer his Discworld novels. Although they have more humour, they still make you think about things, but he achieves this with what appears to be a throwaway line, rather than taking pages of dull soul-searching to get the point across. And for some reason, the grandfather birds and the continual references to them really, really annoyed me. Oh well. Even Terry can't win 'em all!
  19. Happy Birthday! :balloons:

  20. I agree! I really liked that bit. I enjoyed the whole programme, actually. But I do question why Ratner was leading a team after his track record!

  22. I love Guards! Guards!, it's one of my favourites. I adore the City Watch books.
  23. Hopefully Bridget will not return! Unfortunately, I'm sure she will.
