  1. 'Cauldstane' by Linda Gillard

Finally finished. I did take a while to read this one, can't pinpoint why, but I did take a break from it half way through. However once I settled down to it again I enjoyed the second half slightly more than the first. Scottish castle, family curse, romance, unexplained deaths to family members and a ghost writer who comes to write the Laird of Cauldstane memoirs. Things unfold along the way for Jenny but she is troubled by the uneasy presence but can't pinpoint why.. something is determined to make her feel this way but why? I loved the castle and it stood out as a character in its own right...not the first castle she has made a main one of the main characters...well done again Linda. Definitely gives it some atmosphere and I enjoyed imagining what it looked like

I am open minded about the spiritual side of things so it made me uneasy at times. It was a good enough read but I have to say not my favourite of Linda's book, I have enjoyed others more.

    4/5

  2. So Thursday's results as predicted

Ellon 0-2 ALC....(I expected that to be a lot more)

    Stonehaven 3-3 Culter Boys.

So on to today v Kintore....I didn't manage to go today as my sister was visiting, however hubby kept me up to date via text. U'17's were up 3-0 within the first 15 minutes...yes you read correctly... :D ! 6-2 HT then managed to hang on for a win on 6-5...as hubby said...squeaky bum time waiting for the final whistle. Was a great game and some great goals.

So the table now looks like and we still have games in hand....woop.

The league as it stands at the moment

                                      Played     Won     Drawn    Lost   Points

    ALC Rangers              16            13        2           1           41

    Culter Colts                14             10        0           4           30

    Kintore Utd                  15              9        1           5          28

    Stonehaven YFC        13              7        3            3          24

    Culter Boys                 15             6         2           7           20

    Cove BC Utd               16            1          1          14            4

    Ellon Meadows           15             1          1          10            4

We play Ellon again on Tuesday...another win hopefully while ALC play Kintore...on the pitch next to us...! See how that one pans out, would imagine ALC beating Kintore..which would be good, but at the same time if other way around would give as a chance to close the points at bit....watch this space.

  3. :doowapstart: Oh my...you are nearly there...great stuff....keep those wins coming then. :doowapstart:

Good result here tonight too. Culter Colts didn't quite have it all there own way as it was 3-3 at HT v Ellon the bottom of the league. But in the end we managed a 5-4 victory. Over on the other pitch Kintore who are in 2nd as per table above won 4-0...so really nothing has changed in the league tonight. See what happens on Thursday when the other 4 teams play each other.

Ellon v ALC (leaders) so I imagine that will be a win for them

Stonehaven v Culter Boys...and imagine Stonehaven would take a win from that one, but you never know Culter may do us a favour.

Tough game again on Saturday as we play Kintore....yet again...here is hoping we play better this time and not go down 5-1..!

  4. You should have copied and pasted my table....lol. We still have 3pts to be awarded too hopefully, due the game we ended up playing as a friendly v Culter Boys...so hopefully that will help us. Hope your boys stay fit for the rest of their games to play.

  5. :doowapstart: Good result guys well done, things definitely on the positives.

Good day at the office here too. U'17's got a 2-5 away win today.... :doowapstart:  Back to their winning ways, hoping they can keep it going on Tuesday night too, another mid-week game v Ellon, the bottom of the league. We are still in 3rd place but only a point behind with a game in hand 2nd place Kintore. ALC league leaders are 3 games ahead and sitting on 38pts, we had hoped that Stonehaven might have taken points from ALC today but ALC won 0-1. So we are still in with a shout for 2nd if we keep things on a par with today....fingers crossed.

The league as it stands at the moment

                                      Played     Won     Drawn    Lost   Points

    ALC Rangers              15             12        2           1           38

    Kintore Utd                  13              8        1           4           25

    Culter Colts                 12              8        0           4           24

    Stonehaven YFC        11              6        2            3          20

    Culter Boys                 13             5         1           7           16

    Cove BC Utd               14            1          1          12            4

    Ellon Meadows           12             1          1          10            4

  6. OMG.... :b7ydance: ...way to go guys...1pt off the lead...go for it. Fingers crossed for Saturday. :bye2:

U'17's drop to 3rd place tonight as Kintore, who they played on Tuesday, had another game tonight and won. Only a point in it. We play Cove, who lost tonight to Kintore 6-4, so hopefully we can get a win against them at the weekend. This will be the 3rd time to play them and have won both our previous against them...9-0 and 1-4.

  7. 'Elizabeth is Missing' by Emma Healey

Confused...yes that is how I found this book. It was well written and the story of Maud flips between present and past in each chapter, to which in some instances I found a bit annoying at times, as I was liking where the present narrative was going and then is suddenly flips back to the past.

I'm not quite sure what the outcome/conclusion of the book was as I couldn't remember who was doing what when at times. Maybe it was just me and perhaps I didn't take enough time to retain a lot of the mystery type plot.

I have experience of dealing with dementia, my dad had it, so could understand how it was affecting Maud and I did feel sorry for her, when nobody understood her when she kept saying about her friend,  'Elizabeth is missing'. I felt for Helen, her daughter too and can appreciate exactly how she was feeling at times. It was humorous in parts but also had me near to tears in others.

Give it a read though...don't let my review deter you from doing so.

    3/5

  8. Strange decision making there..! Say one with on one hand and another with the other hand. What will happen then if promotion is in the cards?

Surprise last night though....! Andy had texts from Glendale on Tuesday night asking if he could play Wednesday, last night. He did ask if he was definitely needed, supposed shortages and injuries...he gave in and went and he actually got 90 mins, the still had 4 subs. Suffered a clattering to the face with the ball from a free kick just before FT, but was ok. Oh and they won 1-0, he had a chance himself but skied it over the bar...! Was nice to see him play again though...wonder how his hamstrings are holding out today though... :D

Still struggling a bit at the bottom of the league. 3rd bottom 19pts but two other teams above them on 19pts too but with games in hand, so still fighting against being relegated. Need to be winning on points as the goals tally is very good...lots of goals against.

  9. Ouchy....disaster tonight...U'17's beaten 5-1 by the team they beat 0-3 a couple of weeks ago. They weren't the team they were a couple of weeks ago...two or three changes to the team, but it just didn't gel tonight. Plus ALC league leaders won tonight 3-0. We are still sitting 2nd place but they are now 14 points clear but have played the most games. So we possibly have to look for others to help us out with some random results. Maths getting tricky.

How was your result Sedge? Better than ours I hope :blush2:

  10. Not forced off exactly Sedge as the game hadn't actually started. No the amateurs supposedly thought they had priority, but given what Andy was told re secretary nobody did and we were on our rightly allocated pitch, just so happens that the allocated pitch the amateurs had was waterlogged. Really the pitches, as per normal were not checked for playability in the morning.  The secretary spoke to some other person at Sport Aberdeen, who will be looking in to I think. If she hears anything more she will get back to Andy. Not that it will matter now of course as they game wasn't played.

Mid-week games start tomorrow....Culter Colts v Kintore (the home game v the team the beat 0-3 away a couple of weekends ago). We have to win again, just to rub their noses in it....Andy doesn't particularly like their management and sometimes their players can play dirty... :blush2:

  11. What a farce of a day....to quote hubbies update re U'17's game today.

'What a farce. Got the nets up, checked the pitch for turds, ready to go. 2pm KO time comes and goes, and at 2.15pm we get kicked off the pitch because an amateur semi final's pitch is waterlogged and they "have priority." Another case of Sport Aberdeen not bothering to do a pitch inspection (and after torrential rain during the night) in the morning. Lazy B'.....ds. Cue calls from Carol Baxter the Adjfa match secretary to Sports Aberdeen... Don't get her angry - you won't like it when she gets angry...'

So basically there was no game....Andy got a call back from match secretary re it all....long story about allocation of pitches to juvenile and amateurs. We were relocated this week in plenty time due to a flood in the home pitch pavilion so no facilities could be used. These pitches today are used as 'overflow' in these circumstances....4 pitches allocated but only 3 were playable. It turns out that really the 'am semi-final' should have been the ones to have their game abandoned as we were already allocated our pitch and waiting to play. Opposition had come 1/2hr journey away. (bottom of league). Trying in too as suggesting to Andy that because they still have to play each other twice, why don't they play for a 6pt game....no way. Also tried to say what about saying today's game a draw and point each...no way, as Andy and the boys are chasing the league title. Anyway after phone calls the ref had to go by supposedly what they said in 'priority' which is probably a load of b....llcks.

Watch this space. Nightmare too which means they have another game to add to the fixtures, but the boys have exams coming up etc which could interfere with mid-week games.

  12. Silverware...did I hear right....fantastic...well done... :doowapstart:

Think Andy said 17's have 8 games left...so hoping they can get wins in all of them. Hopefully a straight forward win on Saturday against bottom of the league, however they managed a draw on Saturday so got a point against a midtable team. The other Culter team got a draw v the league leaders too...so there no easy games really.

  13. Look forward to hearing of another win from tomorrow's Cup Final....go go...you can do this... :D

The leaders in the league are on :-

    ALC Rangers

    Played 13 Won 10 Drawn 2 Lost 1 Points 32

    Culter Colts

    Played 10 Won 7 Drawn 0 Lost 3 Points 21

However, we still have 3 points to be added from the one that the other Culter team were deducted points from. And also Andy said there was a rumour that ALC could be having 6pts deducted after altercations with the ref after a recent match. He hasn't heard anything official yet, but time will tell. One of the 17's had apparently heard something. So if we keep our winnings ways things could be looking good again. Plus the game ALC lost was to us... ;)

  14. 'The Memory Book' by Rowan Coleman

A touching and moving account of Claire and her family when she is diagnosed with Alzheimer's. The idea of 'The Memory Book' is such a good one for someone and their loved ones to have to look back on when things can't be remembered properly. I especially found the last few chapters very moving when the book was coming to its conclusion. Not being sure how it was going to end it did not disappoint....and yes a tear or two flowed. Another read to pull at the heart strings. Well done Rowan Coleman.

    4/5

  15. ..... I saw Still Alice with a friend, it was wonderful, very subtle and emotive, I didn't find it too emotional but I can imagine it could hit closer to home if you have experience of Alzeimers.. I have a friend in the very early stages of it and it has given me somewhat of an idea as to what the future may hold..

That is exactly the effect it had on me with the book and film. I'm glad you enjoyed it..hope you manage to read the book too.

  16. Great game and result today for U'17's 0-3 away from home and are now back to sitting 2nd in the league. Close on points with a couple of other teams, but looking good at the moment. Still games to play obviously but great performance today with a squad of only 12, so only 1 sub. Few players playing out of position but they proved themselves.
