  1. I am on page 680 of The Stand and so far it is the absolute best book by King that I have read, and I have read many of his.
  2. The next time I am in a wine store i shall look for the Shiraz-Malbec by Trivento.
  3. No, but I shall try to find one of their Malbec wines. It looks interesting and I do enjoy a nice malbec. I did some research and found that Trivento is a fairly new Winery in Argentina and run by Concho y Toro of Chile. http://www.banfivintners.com/trivento/history.html Pontalbo, I would really recommend that you find a nice wine store and buy your wine rather than buying something online. Try your 'Yellow Pages"
  4. I hope that #6 doesn't take as long as #5 did, but yes, there is supposed to be a #6. My faorite was Valley Of The Horses but book #1 was a close second. It was nice reading in the Horses how Ayla survived by herself. Since this thread was resurrected I went back and looked at a few of the books. I may try reading them again.....if I ever finish The Stand by King.
  5. It looks delicious. Do you use Grand Marnier or Brandy.
  6. I am about 400 pages into The Stand and enjoy it very much. only 738 pages to go. It may be one of his best, or at least one of the best, excluding the Dark Tower Series. But, I still have to finish the book.
  7. Ok pontalba, lets get with it. Have you done any wine shopping yet.
  8. I just finished "Wintersmith" by Terry Pratchett. Ach, Crivens. The big wee hag wins another battle.
  9. Ach! Crivens. The big wee hag is gonna send me packin'.
  10. Maybe not my favorite characters but iIdo like the Nac Mac Feegles. Kell, I am sure will know who I mean.
  11. Have you read any since then. Just curious.
  12. And why, pray tell, have you never read a Terry Pratrchett book.
  13. I also enjoyed the Sacketts by L'Amour. There are 17 books that involve the Sacketts in one way or another. I believe that i may have mentioned somewhere that I have L'Amour's entire collection of all his books, over 100 and have read them all twice. The last time I read them I wrote, in pencil, in the books the date that I read them.
  14. Pontalba, I know that you mentioned red wine but let me also suggest that you try a white wine. For a person strarting out in wine I would suggest that you try a Piesporter Michelsberg Riesling Kabinett from Germany. If you find that you don't care for whatever wine you try, don't give up. Once you start to like wines you will find that they are one of life's great enjoyments, along with good food, books, and music. Oh, and also art. I did some wine shopping today: At Total Wine: ....bought 6 bottles of Vinho Do Monte - $8.99 a bottle ....bought 1 bottle of Aveleda Vinho Verde $7.29 a bottle (already had a few bottles) At World Market: ....bought 7 bottles of Vina Alarba - $6.99 a bottle (the Vina Alarba is one of the great wine bargains - Robert Parker gave it a 90 rating - it sells for $10.99 bottle at Total Wine and is a bargain even at that price)
  15. I will name my favorite 3 books. It is too tough for me to pick others as there are so many good ones. The Grapes Of Wrath - John Steinbeck Old Man And The Sea - Ernest Hemingway The Moon Is Down - John Steinbeck I also really enjoyed the Trilogy by Steinbeck: Tortilla Flat, Cannery Row, and Sweet Thursday. Obviously, Steinbeck is by far my favorite writer.
  16. maureen, what is the name of the wine. Am curious. really recommend thay you try the Vina Alarba.
  17. currently, I am using a bbokmark that amazon put in with one of my book orders. However, i am anticipating a nice unique bookmark from someone on the forum.
  18. I am currently reading "Wintersmith" and am probably about a third of the way through it. Has anyone else read this book yet, and what did you think of it, without telling me the ending.
  19. I had the Vina Alarba from Spain (Old Vines Grenache) the other night and really enjoyed it. I don't believe I have ever had a $6.99 (U.S.) bottle of wine that enjoyable. For those interested, I bought it at World Market. Great buy for the money.
  20. I agree. I am not a fan of the Wine Of The Month clubs. I used to subscribe to The Wine Advocate by Robert Parker and received many, many good recommendations of wine. I would much rather read up on wine and try a few experiments on my own than going the club route. As dogmatix says, I believe you can get some pretty good recommendations right here.
  21. My wife likes the German Rieslings. She especially enjoys a wine called Erben Kabinett. Today I bought a bottle of the Ercavio that dogmatix recommended. We will probably try it this weekend.
  22. Thank you. Thank You. Thank you.
  23. Sofia always has a nice smile, just look at her avatars.
  24. I got, for Christmas, a 50 bottle wine cooler. I have 30 bottles in it at this time.
