  1. Stuffed bell peppers tonight. I harvesetd many from our garden and my wife is baking 12 for me. Two I will have for dinner and will freeze the remainder for future meals.
  2. I am a big fan of Clint Eastwood. Wonder when it will come out on video or be available on the cable channels.
  3. Again, I agree with your logic kylie. something else to keep in mind. If it is a first time book by the author then people may purchase, at first, based on the reviews. However, for many established authors people buy if is written by one of their favorite authors. For example, after reading "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo", I didn't need a review of the next book as I was hooked and nothing could stop me from buying it. Same as with John Steinbeck, after reading the first book I read them all. Some were better than others but I enjoyed them all tremendously.
  4. And, one person's "opinion" does not mean something is not good, it is simply an opinion.
  5. Regardless of how the threads are sorted out , my favorite is Stephen King, hands down, no contest.
  6. A malbec from argentina.
  7. I totally agree with you kylie. If a person only wants to read for education, I have plenty of math and history books to loan. I would venture to say that most people read for enjoyment, not for furthering their education. Not that there is anything wrong for reading to further an education, but, there are other reasons to read like "simple" enjoyment. I am of the opinion that the Harry Potter books were well written and the story line was outstanding. It is easy to criticize an author that is more popular than most others, but it is very hard to try writing as well as him/her. The bottom line is J.K. is one of the most popular writers in history, not the best, but one of the most popular. Credit to her for her success.
  8. I guess that I use Amazon differently than some here on the forum. I mainly use Amazon as a place to obtain books, both bought and free. The other use is to read a "Description" of the book. I frequently get my recommendations/review from here on the forum (kudos to you Michelle). For example, recently poppy recommended a book by Neil Gaiman.....Coraline.....I went to Amazon and read the description and then decided to download the book to my kindle. all that took place in about 3 minutes.
  9. A week from today we are going to take a drive from North Carolina where we now live to Virginia (about a 2 hour drive). We are driving up to a large Orchard where we will be buying about a half bushel of fresh picked apples. They have a number of varities including some locally developed but we will buy the Fuji as it is probably our favorite.
  10. You need to be specific. Is the topic about the Amazon Review or the Customer reviews. btw, the reviews on Amazon are not nearly as important to me as the service they provide for obtaining a book/music/etc.
  11. Best place to buy a book that I have found. I also love their kindle service. I can find a "free" book at the library and download it on Amazon within 2 minutes. For me, the kindle has become a great way to read good books at little to no cost. For those of you that don.t have good libraries I suggest looking at possibly joining another library, for a small fee, that has great choice of books.
  12. Attached is a photo of me in middle age. The other photo is of 4 different U.S. Presidents. Some people believe I resemble, somewhat, one of them. Your guess, which one? excuse the quality of my photo. It was a scan of me from a news article in the newspaper many years ago.
  13. Young Love - Sonny James http://youtu.be/8yHMZvIfJnA
  14. This will be my first read of Neil Gaiman. the write-up on Amazon looked interesting so i think I will enjoy the book. I am about to finish my current read and will probably start Coraline tonight, if I get off the forum soon.
  15. Oh, the wonder of Kindle. I have already downloaded Coraline to my kindle from the Library.
  16. my woman, My Woman, My Wife - Marty Robbins (been in a Country music frame of mind recently - the satellite radio station has a plce called Willie's Roadhouse where you can listen to Classic Country Music and I love it)
  17. Coraline by Neil Gaiman - looks interesting and I may look it up at the library. Glad to hear that you got a kindle, love mine and it is wonderful being able to get a book in 1 or 2 minutes, but, you need to be careful and not get carried away. You also gave me an idea on a re-read of The Hobbit....may also give that a try.
  18. Aw shucks, a little unplanned scenic highway never hurt anyone.
  19. My Old Friend The Blues - Steve Earle
  20. I agree. I find myself frequently referring to the maps. btw, there is nothing wrong with a scenic route, I frequently enjoy it.
  21. Bree, your memory is surely "not" like a sieve..... ( sorry poppy)
  22. Crazy - Patsy Cline http://youtu.be/K-wJNpWgss8
  23. Goodbye Is All We've Got Left - Steve Earle
  24. As you stated .....this is from Wikipedia (but who is to say they are 100% correct): Gollum, originally known as Sméagol (or Trahald), was a Stoor, one of the three early hobbit-types. actually though, I would like to think of Bilbo as still living and surpassing Gollum in longevity.
  25. We were on vacation in maine a couple weeks ago. One of the places we visited was York Harbor, Maine. Across the street from our hotel was a small lovely park that was donated by a gentleman to the public. He also left a trust to maintain the upkeep. His purpose was to provide beautiful view of the Ocean for the people of the town. Attached are a few photos of the park. My wife and I sat on a stone bench a little down the path to the ocean and just sat and looked and listened to the Ocean. We must have sat there for well over an hour. There are approx. 3 or 4 memorials in the park. One of them was of a 12 year old girl that died and was obviously loved very much by her parents. I took a photo of the memorial....Bonnie Britton. While we were sitting on the stone bench a migration of Monarch butterflies was taking place. They were flying to mexico. Every minute or so we would see 2 or 3 butterflies fly by. I happened to take a picture of one while it was on a flower. I hope you enjoy the photos, if not, go on to the next topic.
