  1. She is on campus which is near Greenwich Village in Manhattan. They are expecting storm surges in NYC of up to 11 feet, that is what has me worried. haven't heard from her today. sofia should be ok, at least for a while. she will get much rain though and depending on her specific location could be heavy flooding. possibly she could be without power as they may be getting stong winds with the rain where she lives. the size of this storm is just hard to even imagine, epic!!
  2. See photo, and the storm hasn't even come close to landfall yet.

  5. stay safe and take no chances. Your location is in the path for much rain it appears. Count on the loss of power and be prepared, hope u have lots of bottled water.
  6. I am really worried about my GD as the school she attends (NYU) is near the water in Greenwich Village. We were texting last night and she told me not to worry that NYU will be very cautious with all the students. However, the storm surge will probably hit her area. she does have a supply of water. power outtage is predicted to be over 8 million people. The storm path is predicted to go up into Canada.....Ottawa and Quebec areas will even see the storm.

  8. ...........more.................. In a measurement of pure kinetic energy, NOAA's hurricane research division on Sunday ranked the surge and wave "destruction potential" for Sandy — just the hurricane, not the hybrid storm it will eventually become — at 5.8 on a 0 to 6 scale. The damage expected from winds will be far less, experts said. Weather Underground meteorologist Jeff Masters says that storm surge destruction potential number is a record and it's due to the storm's massive size. "You have a lot of wind acting over a long distance of water for hundreds of miles" and that piles the storm surge up when it finally comes ashore, Masters said. Even though it doesn't pack much power in maximum wind speed, the tremendous size of Sandy — more than 1,000 miles across with tropical storm force winds — adds to the pummeling power when it comes ashore, he said.
  9. SHIP BOTTOM, New Jersey (AP) - Tens of thousands of residents were ordered to evacuate coastal areas Sunday as big cities and small towns across the U.S. Northeast braced for the onslaught of a superstorm threatening some 60 million people along the most heavily populated corridor in the nation. "The time for preparing and talking is about over," Federal Emergency Management Administrator Craig Fugate warned as a monster Hurricane Sandy headed up the Atlantic Coast on a collision course with two other weather systems. "People need to be acting now." New York City and Philadelphia both announced that mass transit systems would close, and schools were closed Monday in both cities as well as in Washington, Baltimore, Boston and elsewhere. New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg also ordered the evacuation of part of lower Manhattan and other low-lying neighborhoods.
  10. crab cake sandwich for lunch - tonight I will have chili which is on the stove cooking now. plenty of jalapenos and a few habaneros with lots of chopped onion in the ground beef plus chili powder, a dash of cinnamon and a dash of ground red pepper......oh yeah, a couple tablespoons of sugar
  11. I hear the original by screamin' jay yesterday on the radio. It is getting close to Halloween. And I think I hear something scurrying across the floor while I am in bed.
  12. No, we are in a zone where the storm kinda wraps around us. The scary thing is it may be the "perfect" storm where there are actually 3 different storms that merge. It is even possible for parts of West Virginia to get 50 inches of snow, not likely, but possible. I am worried about my GD as she is in NYC and they may get hit with winds and 10 inches of rain. The Hurricane is 800 miles across, I heard.....yes, a biggie. There are going to be big power outtages as there are still leaves on trees and the rain and snow is going to topple trees onto power lines.

  16. This is one massive storm. They are labeling it a "Perfect Storm" that may be of Historic size. It looks like it will hit the Northeast U.S. with great force. http://weather.aol.com/2012/10/26/historic-frankenstorm-threatens-east-coast/?icid=maing-grid7%7Cmaing7%7Cdl2%7Csec1_lnk2%26pLid%3D226363
