  1. I think he's generally a YA writer, so he may have passed you by. If you like his writing, you must try A Monster Calls - it's one of the very few books to make me cry!

More Than This discussion in spoilers..

What did you decide.. was a future where everyone lived in a Virtual Reality world, or was it something his brain came up with to help him with dying? I think the former was very believable, as I've read quite a few books with that kind of aspect, but I'd also like to think it's the latter. I don't think I'll ever be sure.

Tommy was a brave and very likeable young man. I really liked him. I will give another  1 or 2 books of his a try as the story was great and kept me reading.

To be honest, I don't know. The story left me "thinking" but with no sure conclusion. It scares me to think that a Virtual Reality World could happen. I tend to think that it was things going through Seth's mind as he was dying, but on the other hand there were too many turning points in the story for that to be true. Chit, I don't know. I wish he would write a sequel to the book. :)

  2. I did enjoy The Shining, and hated the film version for getting it so wrong. Looking forward to reading Dr Sleep, but I'm reluctant to pay £9.50 for the Kindle version when I know (as an author myself) that there is absolutely no production costs involved in an ebook. It doesn't matter, to me, how famous or popular you are, you don't have to set an ebook price more than £4 or £5 unless you're just being greedy! (IMHO)

Try the library.  Before the introduction of the kindle we were paying much more for books.

  3. Thanks for asking, Muggles. :)

I have a couple of new faves: white chocolate and raspberry ice cream, and sticky date ice cream. Yum!

The white chocolate and raspberry sound good. While in Bar Harbor I had maple walnut ice cream. I also like pistachio, butter pecan, and coconut. However, my favorite is still teaberry.......I would walk 10 miles for it. :)

Athena - I also like lemon flavored fruit bars. Chocolate ice cream is probably one of the two most favorite in the world, I think. :)

  4. I exercise for enjoyment and for health. Without my daily walking on the treadmill I would probably be 6 feet under by now. I had angioplasty performed over 20 years ago (heart attack) and the walking exercise has kept me fit.

brian and vodkafan, you are both doing great.

  5. A couple photos from Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor.

Chrissy - would love to swap vacations, sounds like a good deal for both. Poppy though wants me to drive to NZ next year. :)

Peacefield - what did you do to your wrist arm?

  6. The trip and vacation was a good one. Some parts of the drive were just gorgeous.  The Hudson River Valley in New York State was beautiful. It sits between two mountain ranges and when seen from a high point on the mountain it is just breathtaking. The Hudson River where we crossed it was 2 miles wide. Parts of Pennsylvania up near Wilkes-Barre and Scranton were also beautiful. Driving down the Shenandoah Valley in Virginia is also beautiful especially in Southwest Virginia where you really see the rolling hills. Southwest Virginia was the setting of the David Baldacci book....."Wish You Well", a wonderful book to read which is guaranteed to make you laugh, make you cry, make you sad, and make you happy.

The vacation itself in Bar Harbor, Maine which is actually on Mount Desert island was one of the better vacations. Acadia National Park is a place you never get tired of. One evening while we were having dinner (yes, lobster) we could see the moon just coming up over the Ocean and watched it while it rose and got brighter....just gorgeous.
