Back to John Steinbeck. Since you enjoyed East of Eden you may want to try some of his other writings. Many are easy and quick books to read. I have read all of Steinbeck's books and without a doubt he is my favorite author of all-time. I intend to re-read all his books again sometime soon as I seem to get more understanding from them in re-reads. Four of his books I have already read twice....Tortilla Flats, Cannery Row, Sweet Thursday., and the controversial The Moon is Down. Tortilla Flats, Cannery Row, and Sweet Thursday all take place in an area of California that I have visited (Monterey - we were racing at LaGuna Seca and we stayed for an extended visit, had dinner at Cannery Row)

Where did you travel on your trip to "America"? chrissy - it sounds like you had a very enjoyable trip and vacation.

I just finished Feast for Crows by R.R. Martin. It was the least enjoyable read of the Game of Thrones series. The first 3 books were much better. I will read the last book in the series but will probably take a little break from his writing beforehand. I started Gone Girl last night.

Maybe I shouldn't have voted as I only read his Wheel of Time writings. I thought he did an outstanding job on Wheel of Time. I will probably try reading some of his other books as a result.

Feels like i am living in London....it has been raining every day. We have gotten over 3" in 4 days.

Spinach salad, cocktail shrimp, red snapper, broasted potatoes, asparagus (with cheese), and chardonnay wine. For dessert we had angel food cake with fresh strawberries, and a dip of ice cream.

I do loke hostas and have a number around the house where they get shade. They are just now starting to recuperate from the winter and aren't quite completely up yet although sevefral of them are. The japanese maple is in pretty much a lot of sun. I will have to move the shrubs around the japanese maple as they are getting crowded out.

Attached photos are of a few flowers and shrubs that I planted at my house. First photo is of bleeding heart flower. Immediately to the right are some wild (kinda rare) trillium that I found in the woods in Pennsylvania and transplanted to my house . To the left of the bleeding heart are coral bells - 3 or 4 differnent types. Second photo is of a coral bell plant that is flowering.

I will strongly endorse Lonesome Dove by Larry McMurtry and Shogun by James Clavell. The TV production of Lonesome Dove is also great viewing with outstanding acting (Robert Duvall, Tommy Lee Jones, Diane Lane and Angelica Houston). James Clavell was one of my favorite authors and I really miss his writing (have read all his books, if my memory is correct). My absolute favorite author is John Steinbeck. I have read all of his books and many twice.
