  1. Welcome Raine. I think you found the right forum. Everyone is very friendly here and very willing to share information. Several people are making up for deficiencies in their classics reading, and quite a few of us regularly read childrens' books and love them. I think you will be in good company. Give your toddler a hug for having such a great Mum...(you must be if you are reading him / her books!) Enjoy the forum, Pp
  2. Hello and welcome! Its good that you have found us. Enjoy! Pp
  3. Hi Jenni! You found us...the best on the web! I have Jodi's books on my TBR list. Feel free to write a review of MSK...the more the merrier I look forward to discussing books with you. Enjoy the site. It's probably the friendliest around. PP
  4. Hi Rod, from an ex Geordie! Looks like you are fitting in very well already. I'm not really into horror, but I do like wolves Enjoy! Pp
  5. Yep! Know what you mean. Or they simply give too much away, like naming the male romantic interest, when the reader might otherwise have been kept guessing for a while. Annoying...but maybe research would say that you need a certain amount of info to get folk hooked enough to buy the book? Pp
  6. Hi Sarah! Welcome on board! My target is 75 books this year too. In 2006 I read 31, last year managed 54, so this year I will try for 75. I am a slow reader and have periods where I don't read much, which hinders the count, but its fun to try. If you like romance, try Karma, by Holly A Harvey. It one of our book rings here. I'm not sure who has it at the moment, and I think sending to America is probably a no-no, but I believe its in Amazon. Have a read of the review here and see what you think. Anyway, enjoy the site, and destress! Susie.
  7. Hello Helen. I am glad you decided to join us! Three generations! My goodness! You already know the forum pretty well, so....just enjoy! Pp
  8. Hello Purple Princess. I'm sure you will find exactly what you are looking for. This forum is full of ideas, (and very nice folk too!) I look forward to reading your posts and discussing books with you. Pp

    Hello

Hello Lilac. Welcome to our little corner. I'm sure you'll fit in very quickly. Enjoy! Pp
  10. Hi Pontalba! I haven't seen you around for a while (or is that me not reading the right threads!!)Good to see you anyway! I was wanting to ask you about VN. I am reading 'The real life of Sebastian Knight'. It's the first of his that I've read, and I love it. The humour is fantastic and I love his writing style - is sooo good! Why didn't you import me to read his books pronto! I will be now. Lolita is on my TBR list anyway. John Banville is good! Again, I have only read one, 'Birchwood' which I enjoyed, but felt that I would need to read a second time to get the most out of it. Kell, on the other hand didn't enjoy it. So I am interested to hear you talk of this other JB book. I will look out for it. Now I am going to see if you have written any VN reviews! Bye bye Pp

    Hello

Hello March. Good to see you. I'm sure you will enjoy it here. Pp
  12. Strange coincidence. Wait till Kell sees this thread. We were discussing this book with a friend on saturday! It sounds very good, but I might get a bit miserable and angry with his treatment. Pp

    HI

Hi Megan. Welcome to the forum. You'll find it very friendly here, and you will never be short of reading ideas. Enjoy! Pp
  14. Hi Eddie. Good to see you again. I enjoyed To Kill a Mockingbird, and I could see why it is so revered, but it didn't tick all the boxes for me. Have a peep at my review on the review forum, and then maybe add your own! I'd be interested in the audio you are currently listening to. Let us know your thoughts when you finish it. Susie.
  15. Oh my goodness! just had a peep! looks interesting. We won't see kell now...she'll be busy with the competitions etc! Pp
  16. ***A Big Welcome Skysky*** I'm sure you'll fit in nicely! Pp:)
  17. That's great! I hope at some point we'll be seeing some of your work? It doesn't matter how long or short! Pp
  18. Welcome Fallen Petals. What a beautiful name! Love it! Looks like you've settled in already. Do you write too? Pp
  19. Hiya Carly! There are quite a few younger folk on here and they are very friendly and I'm sure they will recommend some good books, just as we all will! We are a mixed bunch, agewise, but don't worry. We all get together and help each other. I'm sure you'll fit in very quickly, and as Echo says, we'll have you turned into a bookworm in no time! Great to have you on board. Enjoy! Pp
  20. You could always try The Stand - Stephen King, which I'm told is the third longest book. War and Peace is the penultimate longest...anyone know what the longest book is? Welcome to the forum. Have a good trip and let us know what you took, and what you read. Pp
  21. I have read fifty four this year which is better than last years thirty-one. I don't have my list with me, so can't say which was best as my memory is lousy! (Either that or none of them were memorable, which I'm sure isn't the case.) Next year I plan to read seventy-five! Pp
  22. Writeoff said; Not sad. Any reading is good and learning about things is satisfying and useful. I would have to say that I read more non-fiction. I have loads of hobbies and interests, and read lots of biographies too. Probably 70% NF to 30% F. Lovesreading...non-fiction includes all sorts of books, such as reference books about any subject under the sun. Could be cross stitch, gardening, astronomy, crayfish, Eskimos...anything. Also books like dictionaries, or manuals for learning, like learning a language, or studying something, like first aid. Then there are the biograpgies and auto-biographies, and things like mewspapers and magazines. I'm sure you probably read non fiction without even realising it! Pp
  23. Hi Katie. Welcome to our corner of the world. I often go through phases of not wanting to read, or not finding something I fancy. Those phases are usually followed by a period where I read everything I can, and want to read lots more than I can manage. Methinks pacing might be a good idea. I'm sure you'll find lots to interest you on here anyway, so enjoy! Pp
  24. Having worked with people with Alzheimers and their carers and also collaborated with the local Alzheimers Society (in England) very closely over several years, I am gutted. It is more rare to get early onset. It is a devastating illness not just for the person who has it, but their family too. Lets hope that a treatment is quickly found. Meanwhile, please support your local and national Alzeimers Disease Society. Their work is so important, and they will also be able to tell you where to send money for research. End of plug. This has been a sad start to the day. I'm so glad Terry is cheerful about it. I'm sure he will continue to write for a long time yet. Should you read this Terry, we all wish you the very best! Pp
  25. Adam said I'm with you on that one Adam. However, like many other folks I do you Libraything, and I do sometimes have a list, but really its down to stumbling across a book that looks interesting, or picking on that suits my mood at the time. Welcome to the forum Dan. You will obviously fit in here very well...look how you got the discussion going! Lol. Love the ID... Yes, encourage Mrs Purple to come along too. Have fun! Pp
