I think you'd have to be a certain kind of person to be able to ghost write, not just to know that you'd miss the limelight, but to be able to work with people you didn't particularly like or respect...and yes, if you were able to you could refuse a job, but how many people are in that position. I still think its an collaboration and each should get equal billing. Pp

Supergran said:- I change my avatar every 100 posts, so it was time to change. This time I've put up a cropped version of one of my cards. I'm really glad you liked the tulips

The thing is...why spite our own noses. Surely we should be campaigning for changes, not denying ourselves the pleasures of a magazine or particular food. The important thing is to get manufacturers to change. I suspect they are loath to change because of hygeine and H&S and any litigious law suits. Pp

I shall put them on my long list of TBR . Hopefully sometime this year, as I'm aiming for 75 reads this year.

Well an hour later, I have returned after browsing the site Wicci suggested. Good one Wiccie. It also led me to a local forum which I have joined. So I'm forumed out! I was going to make some bags anyway and have already bought the materials, so its just a case of getting down to it. We also use ASDA's bags, but are terrible at remembering to take them!

It's appalling. After reading your first post above, Supergran I decided not to watch as I can't bear to see such suffering. It upsets me for days after. We are trying to cut out as much plastic as poss and like F&C buy loose, but we really need the manufacturers to get on board. And how do these things get there in such quantities? Isn't there a village in Cornwall or somewhere that is totally carrier bag free? Pp

Red Alligator said Well you have two of my all time favs on there, Cold comfort farm and Woman in white. Perhaps I should read your other choices... Pp

Its on my TBR list, but it does sound a bit depressing. Will have to choose the right time to read it. Pp

Yes, or covers with handbags and shoes and lippy. Girly stuff in fact. For a definite market. (That was the only thing I didn't like about Karma --- sorry Kerri:friends0:) Pp

This is a book I must get back to at some point. It was never one of my favourites, but maybe I'll appreciate it more as an adult. Pp

I agree, and why does everything in this world have to have a label? Ok, so for quick identification it's useful, but different things mean different things to different people. I'm enjoying my present read because the protagonists are nearer my age and relevant to my experience, but I do enjoy some of the stories on younger women just as much. I have to say though that is gets irksome reading about some of the 'frivolous' life styles of some of these characters. That's why Blossom's Karma was such a breath of fresh air. I think it would be an absolute best seller if only we could get the marketing for it. Either way, when you just want a gentle read for relaxation purposes, chick lit is quite good. Pp

I usually love it, but when I heard it was back, I looked at the people involved and read their profiles, and thought, no, I'm not sure I can be bothered. Their comments at the bottom of each profile said it all. I see no reason why you can't be a good , strict, sensible boss and be human and sensitive too. After all, without people, you have no business. So, no, I didn't watch it, for the first time ever! Pp PS obviously these people are picked because it will make a good show, so the more contentious they are, the better, but life is too short. I will probably succomb , but for now, I'll watch this thread and guage my interest from that.

Strange you should start a thread here this am, as I was pondering this as I read my book last night (Reading in Bed by Sue Gee). It's gentle, and feminine and unlikely to appeal to men, obviously written for women, but with two female central characters who are in their 60's. I am not far enough in it to comment about depth and content, but it isn't what I'd call chick lit, although it has some similar qualities. I also worried about my own novel, when I edited it a little while back, and thought that because of the chatty tone and the romance that runs through it, that I'm creating a chick lit work, but it isn't meant to be, because it is about taboo subjects (child abuse), rape and murder, as well as the lighter sider, so for Nano I had classed it as general fiction. I think there are lots of crossovers, and I think both Michelle and Andy's comments are about right. Crickey, if I thought I was writing trash, I'd give up now! Pp

You could have Sherlock Holme's cape and deerstalker draped over a chair by the fireside or something similar?
