  1. I'm two characters at the moment - a Scottish terrorist everyone assumes is dead AND an undercover cop who fell in love with a bank robber and has infiltrated an Al Qaida cell.
  2. I'm afraid I'm in the minority - I thought Pan's Labyrinth was severely over-hyped. It's got some of the most beautiful cinematography I've ever seen, along with stunning makeup and art design, but the film itself? Meh! I wasn't grabbed by it, to be honest. But, like I say, I know very well I'm in the minority on this one. Oh, and it's definitely NOT a fee-good film!
  3. The only time it would be "was" is if the text was mentioning the agency as a singular entity, i.e. "The agency was about to go under." The book had it right. And no, I couldn't in all good conscience write in a book. I've spotted loads of errors in books as I'm reading them (one of the worst was The Godfather by Mario Puzo - my copy was RIDDLED with errors!), but I couldn't bring myself to actually mark them up, I sell al ot of my books on and swap out others and I wouldn't want to receive a copy that had been written in, and I definitely wouldn't write in a book that didn't belong to me - that's even worse!
  4. I'm a non-Meyer fan and I LOVE Kelley Armstrong's books - they're MUCH better than the Twilight tosh. I really do think they're at the top end of supernatural fiction, mainly because they're firmly embedded in realism in a way that makes them almost completely believeable, despite being populated by werewolves, vampires, half-demons, witches and sorcerers!
  5. I have it waiting to be watched...
  6. Ooh, where in Scotland are you? We have quite a few members north of the border - I'm in Aberdeen.
  7. I'm afraid it was a one-off experiment, so you missed it this time, but I've been thinking of resurrecting it for World Book Day next year, so kep your eyes open.
  8. I don't like over-use of it (although I think I'm quite guilty of that in my own writing - oops! ), but if its cleverly employed it can be very effective.
  9. THanks, Lexie - I have a copy winging its way to me now, so I'll be able to join in the discussions very soon.
  10. I've been reading all the comments so far and my interest in this book is definitely growing - I've had to request a copy via Bookmooch! I hope it will arrive very soon because my reading mojo has started to come back and I'd like to get stuck into this one. The whole idea of being handed off by your cuckoo mother to an even nuttier family is intriguing me immensely!
  11. Not a word in particular, but I love it when a writer uses alliteration cleverly. If it's done very well, it can give me goosebumps!
  12. I use a Post-it sticky flag to mark exactly my place on the page where I leave off. I do try to finish at ends of chapters, but with a baby that's not always possible, so the sticky tabs are great! While I'm reading, it gets stuck to the inside of either the front or back cover. These days I mostly read in the bath, but if I'm not reading in there, I'm curled up sideways on the left-had side of the sofa, or reclining on the bed. I'm usually rather still and quiet, although I can read with background noise. However, I get really narky if someone starts speaking to me when I'm reading without giving me a few minutes to finish the bit I'm on. And if they keep me from my book for longer than a couple of minutes, I'll zone out and start ignoring them! I have actually been known to quite bluntly say to Dale , "I'm just not interested, can I go back to my reading now, please?" when he's interupted me to tell me about his footie game. On my shelves, the books are arranged in a certain order. All my Pratchetts are in publication order on the top shelf (it's a very wide bookcase!). After that, I have other sets of books by Kelley Armstrong; JK Rowling; Eoin Colfer; Paul Stewart and Chris Riddell; Simon Scarrow; Stuart Macbride; Christopher Brookmyre and Ben Elton, all in either publication or chronological order. After that come the randoms, all in alphabetical order by author surname. This is my "permanent collection". My TBR books are in various places as I no longer have just one place to keep them - they are in the drawers under the bed and under the mantlepiece in the living room. They are in no particular order at all. My books for sale or swap are all on a bookcase in the hallway in alphabetical order by author surname. I like to have a large cup of coffee and a biscuit while I read, no matter where I'm reading. I can't stand for the corners of pages to be folded over and anyone who borrows my books is well aware of this, I also can't stand for them to be placed face-down whilst open and will happily mutilate anyone who does this to any of my books!
  13. No, I think quite the opposite: ONLY READ IF YOU'VE SEEN THE SEASON 5 FINALE ALREADY!!!
  14. Ooh, I just took the WHich Desperate Housewife Are You? quiz on the ABC site and apparently I'm Gabrielle - LOL!
  15. According to Wiki: Season 6 (2009–2010) Main article: Desperate Housewives (season 6) ABC confirmed a sixth season on April 24, 2009. No further details have been released. ABC released the season's general synopses at their 2009-2010 television season press conference on May 19: According to the ABC site, DH will return "In the Fall", so we have to wait till then...
  16. Judging by the numbers, it's been around a while (over 20,000 UK members at least), but perhaps not a huge-long while.
  17. I've only read the first one so far, but it was a lot of fun - very inventive and well worth giving a go.
  18. I've added the spoiler tags to Inver's post - just in case!
  19. Ooh, that's a Kelley Armstrong one - YAY! I'm reading one of hers at the moment... Me too!
  20. Crikey - I must be slipping - I was so sure I'd seen the face!
  21. Just out of interest, the film of this is currently playing on Sky. It's on right now, but I'm sure it'll be repeated. It'd be interesting to find out how faithful to the book it is.
  22. Happy birthday, wherever you are. :)

  23. I'm a 15-y-o necromancer, on the run with three other supernatural teens - a werewolf, a sorcerer and a witch. We've all escaped from what we supposed was a home for kids with emotional/mental health problems but have since discovered that we're actually genetically modified supernaturals who were part of a project and our very lives are now in danger! (The Awakening by Kelley Armstrong - book 2 in the Sarkest Powers series.)
  24. Didn't we see the face of the bride? I'm certain I saw the face of the bride and it was - Im' quite definite in my mind about that. Mind you, I saw if several weeks ago now, so it's not fresh in my mind...
  25. Seems to be there when I looked for it. I've never heard of the site before though, so I'm not a user.
