  1. Some extra info on some of the "missing links" on your list, courtesy of Wiki. -------------------- Fun and Fancy Free comprises of TWO stories: Bongo: The story of a circus bear cub, who runs away from the circus to the wild and the adventures there that follow. This was based on an original story by Sinclair Lewis. Mickey and the Beanstalk: An adaptation of Jack and the Beanstalk with Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, and Goofy as peasants who discover temperamental Willie the Giant's castle in the sky through the use of some magic beans. ------------------- Melody Time also has several segents, some of which are based on previously written work: - Once Upon a Wintertime features Frances Langford singing the title song about two romantic young lovers in December. The boy shows off for his girl, and near-tragedy and a timely rescue ensue. This short was also featured in Very Merry Christmas Songs which is part of Disney Sing Along Songs as a background movie for the song Jingle Bells. - Bumble Boogie is a surrealistic nightmare for a solitary bee trying to escape from a visual and musical frenzy. The music is courtesy of Freddy Martin and his orchestra (with Jack Fina playing the piano) and is a swing-jazz variation of Rimsky-Korsakov's Flight of the Bumblebee, which was one of the many pieces considered for inclusion in Fantasia. - The Legend of Johnny Appleseed is a retelling of the story of John Chapman, who spent most of his life roaming America and planting apple trees, thus earning his famous nickname. Dennis Day narrates and provides all the voices. - Little Toot is based on the poem by Hardie Gramatky, in which the title protagonist, a small tugboat, wants to be just like his father but can't seem to stay out of trouble. The Andrews Sisters provide the vocals. Out of all the musical segments, this one is the most famous. - Trees is a reciting of the famous Alfred Joyce Kilmer poem by Fred Waring and the Pennsylvanians with the lyrical setting seen through the seasons. - Blame It On the Samba has Donald Duck and Jos
  2. An excellent challenge! I think I remember an old friend endeavouring to do similar, but we lost touch and I've no idea howshe did with it tin the end! Fantasia was based on music, so you could always either listen to the music that inspired it or read about the composers...
  3. Any of the ones suggested here are great reads. One of the very best examples of platonic love that I've ever read, I think! Gorgeous book with an incredibly sad ending.
  4. I have another episode waiting for me to watch it. I'm hoping I'll get a chance to watch it tomorrow morning while Xander naps, before we go away for the weekend!
  5. I pretty much act as a local library to friends and family too.

Happy birthday wherever you are. :)

  7. I thought there could have been a lot more focus on Draco - he's an interesting character facing a horrible dilemma in this episode and I thought they would have gone into more depth with his strugles than they did.
  8. I have three sections to my books: 1. Permanent Collection I collect books by certain authors - entire series (Terry Pratchett, Simon Scarrow, Kelley Armstrong to name a few) and keep them all together. I also collect autographed copies and some proofs/ARCs. hese have all been read at least once and more often than not, multiple times, 2. For Sale/Swap If I've read a book I know I won't read again and isn't going to be part of my permanent collection, it gets listed for sale on Green Metropolis or for swap on Book Mooch. I also swap books in person with a few friends or pass some on to my sister who has only just got into reading a few years back and is still building her tastes and collection. 3. Mount To Be Read These are all the books I own but have not yet read. Some will become part of my Permanent Collection, but most of them will be Sold or Swapped. So-called Mount To Be Read because there's literally a mountain of books (I have over 100 at the moment andthe number just keeps on growing!).
  9. I don't even write in my OWN books, never mind a library book! I used to very lightly ring errors in pencil (spelling, grammar, if a character had just changed name for no apparent reason - LOL!), but not any more and only ever in my own books.
  10. Too short? Goodness, I was glad it wasn't any longer and, in fact, wished it was shorter, as it seemed to be 2 1/2 hours of nothing much happening! They could have used the time far more wisely - by tightening things up they could have got away with cutting less of the book and made it far more eciting. Personally, I thought they wasted huge swathes of time and then threw away moments that could have had major impact, such as .
  11. Now, THAT'S a great love story. As is Howard' End - love of family, love in the romantic sense, and love of a place all rolled into one. I love E M Forster! Beautiful, sweeping love story there!
  12. It depends on your interpretation of "great" I suppose. Is it the storuy itself? Is it that the characters overcome huge odds and obstacles to be together no matter what? Is it that the characters are perfect for one another? Wuthering Heights is often cited as being a great love story, but to me it's more about obsession. Romeo and Juliet is another "great love story", but once again, I think their relationship is incredibly obsessive, ending in their double suicide! How about Jane Eyre? She sticks by her guns and refuses to marry a man who is already married, even though she loves him completely and the thought of being apart from him is dreadful to her. She loves him in spite of (or even because of?) all his faults and even sticks by him when he thinks all is lost. They overcome ever obstacle to be together, but neither of them is diminished by the relationship - they are equals and each has their own thoughts and moral standpoints. THAT, to me, is a great love story - possibly the greatest one ever.
  13. Ooh, it might be, but I was pretty certain it was part of the "I'm the Half-Blood Prince" revelation as Im' sure I recall him going into detail about him being friendly with Lily and her going off with James, leaving him to be tormented by Mooney, Padfoot and co. Slughorn also made mention of Harry looking like his father but having his mother's eyes, which is another thing I'm sure I remember Snape saying at that point...
  14. I saw HP6 last night and was mightily disappointed. It felt so disjointed and to someone who hadn't read the books (Mr Inc, who is sharp as a pin when it comes to films) it was very confusing and jumpy. THe revelation of who the HBP was a throw-away line - what a wasted moment! And they completely missed the Snape/Lilly/James connection and why Snape dislikes Harry so much. It took forever to get going and even then it didn't really pick up - it felt like nothing happened for 2 1/2 hours! Am now more depressed than ever that they've split the last book into two films as it's a case of starting and ending with lots of action, but a sea of nothing but camping in between - they could be incredibly dull at this rate!
  15. Kell

Oh no - you've not spoilt anything - she was already with Eric when I left off. :)

  16. Kell

Thank you. And I'm glad you're enjoying TB - I can hardly wait from episode to episode! And, like you, I was glad when she started seeing Eric instead. I've only read up to the end of book 4, but I will pick up the rest of the resries at some point and catch up with what happens next, I hope she doesn't go back to Bill - I always found him rather annoyingly patronising, whereas Eric, although often chauvenistic (if I remember corretly), was at least consistent and, of course, is incredibly suave and sexy to boot! ;)

  17. Kell

    Loving your Eric avatar! *swoon*

  18. I like them - if I've enjoyed the book it often encourages me to go back and look again at bits of it that are raised in the discussion questions. Also, who better to set the questions than the authors themselves? After all, they know their own books better than anyone other than the hardest-core fans.
  19. I know it's odd to be thinking of it in July, but I started stitching for some of my Xmas cards last night! I finished my first design - a stylished Xmas tree in a variegated green floss on a hand-dyed piece of 28-count linen with pale shades of green through it. I'm very pleased with how it turned out! I will be on the lookout for more small, pretty designs for Xmas cards. I already have another tree one and a couple that are meant fo ornaments that say things like "Peace" and "Joy" that I'm considering using...
  20. Hope you have a lovely birthday, wherever you are! :)

  21. Have a great birthday! :)

  22. A bowtie? Really? Oh, come on!
  23. I'm also an omnipresent narrator and suspec t I might be reading either the same book as Frankie or something similar: Five sisters by the name of Bennet have a mother whose primary concern is marrying them all off and a father whose primary concern is to ensure they survive against the onslaught of zombies. A certain Mr Darcy (who dispatched 1000 of said creatures in Cambridge) has failed to impress local society despite being better looking than his friend who has just hosted a ball and taken a fancy to the eldest Benet sister...
  24. Finished First Night last night and really enjoyed it. Thank you so much for loaning it to me! If you PM me your addres, I'll get it back to you ASAP. :)

  25. I've no idea how long in hours and minutes it takes me to read a book. I used to average 2-3 books per week, pre-pregnancy, but once I was expecting I found I totally lost my ability to concentrate for any length of time. Im' back to being able to concentrate now, but I don't have anywhere near as much time as I used to for reading, what with looking after an almost-10-m-o baby and also cross stitching (which I too ku p again in February), so now I'm lucky if I manage to finish 2 or 3 books in a month, depending on the length of them. I have far less patience with books now though - if Im' not enjoying it, I'll get shot of it a lot sooner than I used to as I don't have the time to waste on bad books.
