  1. Well, if you like Sookie, I think you'll LOVE the WotOW books.

Happy birthday, Ben! Hope you have an excellent day and get HEAPS of books! :)

Hope you're having a great birthday, wherever you are! :)

  4. I'd recommend starting at the beginning of any of her series, although I think her WOmen of the Otherworld books are the best. WotW and Darkest Powers are both set in the same "universe" but not specifically linked other than that the same species of supernaturals appear in both sets, although none of the same acvtual characters. The Nadia Stafford series is completely different - firmly set in "this world" and following an ex-cop turned assassin (very exciting stuff!). If you don't like supernatural stuff, go for the NS books. If you do like supernatural stuff, read the WotOW books first. Then read the NS books. Then the DP ones. They're all good, but in different ways. Women of the Other World 1. Bitten (2001) 2. Stolen (2002) 3. Dime Store Magic (2003) 4. Industrial Magic (2004) 5. Haunted (2005) 6. Broken (2006) 7. No Humans Involved (2007) 8. Personal Demon (2008) 9. Living with the Dead (2008) 10. Frost Bitten (2009) Spin off from WotOW Men of the Other World (2009) (collection of shorts) (this features back stories to some of the male characters in the WotOW series which slot in between some of the other novels) Darkest Powers 1. The Summoning (2008) 2. The Awakening (2009) 3. The Reckoning (2010) Nadia Stafford 1. Exit Strategy (2007) 2. Made to Be Broken (2009)
  5. Gammon steaks with pineapple, Jersey Royal potatoes and a medley of baby vegetables for me and Xander tonight. Dale is having toad-in-the-hole with smiley faces and sausagey-beans - LOL!
  6. I never read the Goosebumps books (I was a little old when my sister started reading them - I was already growing out of the Point Horror series by that time and moving onto King, Koontz, Herbert and Layman - LOL!). However, I used to buy them as prezzies for my young cousins and they lapped them up - certainly got them reading!

Still eeling rather "blah", but Xander is begina total star. He had a 2 hour nap this morning and I crashed out too. Hoping for something similar this afternoon too. :)

  8. When I lived on a street with a library on the corner, I used to take out and read about 6 or 7 books per week - whenever they got new stock in, they'd put aside ones they thought I'd like as they knew I'd be in within a couple of days to collect them! I was also working a 40 hour week as a cinema manager and slotted my reading time into breaks, days off and the mornings before I started work (I went in at lunch time and worked till midnight-ish). So, as a result, I find it very easy to believe this lady has accomplished such a magnificent reading experience as this. *applause*
  9. There was a more gruesome version of the tale made into a film with Sigourney Weaver (Snow White: A Tale of Terror) which was rather good. Well worth watching too. Completely devoid of dwarves. Well, not quite, there's one person of shorter stature in the band of rough lads living in the forest, but the rest are all regular height.
  10. I've not read any of them yet, but I have two of them (Wolf Hall and Brooklyn) on Mount TBR. I won them both in different online competitions.
  11. You had me worried there for a moment! Eric is loosely based on Faust. Mort is Death's apprentice who falls for Death's daughter.
  12. Way to go, Library Nook! I hope you'll enjoy your projects. I keep collecting all the free kits on my cross stitch magazines and put them to one side for occasions when I'm going away somewhere and want something little to take with me.
  13. I don't think that Grimm's tales were actually aimed at children originally - more at adults as moral tales. It wasn't until later that they were given a bit of a do-over to make them more kid-friendly and thus they became popular with the little'uns too (although I think the originals would most likely give them nightmares!).
  14. I don't remember a time when I didn't enjoy reading. I was encouraged from being tiny by my bookworm Mum and I could read quite well before I started school - I was always several reading levels above my age group. I pretty much devoured books from the very beginning.
  15. I watched season 2 episode 5 the other night and have to say it's getting VERY good! Can hardly wait to see the next one (which I should be able tro do tonight)...
  16. Have a lovely birthday! :)

  17. Hope you have a fantabulous birthday! :)

  18. Great start to your challenge. I have to say, though, that I LOVE that Grimm's tales are often so dark and brutal. It's always interesting to see how they've been "sanitised" for child-appropriateness at later dates.
  19. They're great, Chesil! I picked up a New Stitches mag at the weekend and there are some lovely stained glass/art deco style floral designs I think I'd like to do as well as some hardanger squares I might give a go - I've never done hardanger before...
  20. I didn't intend to read them, but I was persuaded and found them to be very average. They're OK for a bit of escapsim, but I don't think they're anyhing special. It's one case where I actually preferred the film to the book.
  21. They sound like they'd be right up my street too - I'm going to have to have a look at them!
  22. I took a few peices of hand-dyed linen and Six Strand Sweet flosses with me to do a few snowflake designs while Xander was napping. I completed two and did about half of a third one.
  23. I used to finish every book I started reglardless of how much I was (or wasn't) enjoying it. Then I switched to the "if it doesn't grip me by page 100, it's out" philosophy. After a while, it got lowred to 50 pages, but nowadays if it's not grabbing me within a few chapters, I leave it. I don't have the time to spend on books I'm not enjoying any more - I have far better things to do!
  24. Either match the book you have, or replace your old copy to match the new one. Gotta have them matching if at all possible!

    Tea

I like good old Tetley's with either a splash of skimmed milk, or a squaaeze of lemon juice and a small dollop of honey. I also occasionally enjoy peppermint or fennel tea, but I have to be in the right mood for them. I usually choose coffee over tea, but if I'm feeling just a tad under the weather, it's tea I'll turn to every time.
