I have recently started to read the series, and am how half way through HP and the Goblet of fire. My 10 yr old son is reading them as well (two book marks in one book - and we are competing along. ) What I have read so far has been amazing - I must say they hype was certainly well deserved - although that is what stopped me from starting on them for so loooong.I am also amazed at my son's reaction - although he does read every now and then, HP books have opened a chapter for him, which I'm hopeful will lead to further and more frequent enjoyment of other books.

And I don't think JK Rowling has any of these problems either?..

Just been to watch Avatar. A lot of spectacular effects there, so vivid and beautiful - amazing!

We just watched Jurassic Park. Still enjoyable, even after all these years!

Of course there are! You cannot say that all famous authors have some sort of problem, as if it is a requirement! Wherever did you get that from?

Opps forgot to update this. Read the second Harry Potter book - which I loved as well. I guess I'm converted. Also read The Secret life of Bees, by Sue Monk Kidd. It is about a little girl who lives with the memory of her mother, who she believed she killed when she was around 4 years old. . She does not get along with her father at all, and he does not understand her. Finally one fine day, when she was a teenager, she runs away from home, taking with her, her guardian - a black servant by the name of Rosaleen. This was in the sixties, when the civil rights laws were being passed. An enjoyable book, would recommend it.

The first two books in the Alex Delaware series are 'When the bough breaks' and 'Blood Test'

I'll second Jonathan Kellerman, Janet. But the books are in sequence to, so make sure you get the first ones...

I have never thought about whether an author is black or white. Does it matter so much?

So glad you enjoyed Jasper Fforde. I had never imagined I could enjoy fantasy until I read The Eyre Affair.

I loved it I must say, I'm glad I finally tried these. After I read the first book, I watched the first film, too, and I enjoyed that a lot as well, as did my 10-yr old who watched it with me. I now have books 2, 3, 4 to look forward to on my TBR pile. I should also mention that my 10 - yr old is currently reading the first few pages of book 2. UNBELIEVABLE!!
