  1. Michelle, I'm curious, why do you listen to books? Does it give you as much as reading a book? Is it more relaxing?
  2. And I agree
  3. What she said!
  4. I slept and missed the last twenty mins or so....
  5. It was Achmat Dangor's. It was nominated for the Man Booker Prize 2004, so maybe I am the one that is not getting this.......
  6. What does this woman have to offer a child? A few years at the most! How selfish of her. How is she going to cope with running after a toddler all day long? Or playing with her kid? Is she forgetting that a child needs care 24/7? And what about in 10 years' time, or so, if she is still alive? Does she care how her child will feel when she - an 82 year old - will turn up for parents' day?
  7. Bitter Fruit by Achmat Dangor? I have just finished it, and cannot make up my mind whether I liked it or not!
  8. Finished Bitter Fruit, and I still have not made up my mind whether I liked it, or not! I have had a look on the forum, to see what other people think about it, but no one seems to have mentioned this book anywhere. Quite unbelievable, as between all the regular members here only, I would imagine the number of books we have read is enormous!
  9. There is only one word for this: - Yuck!!!
  10. Oh, so me too! I loved that book when I read it (I was in my teens too! )
  11. , Pity I don't have an extra room! Have since started (half way through) on a book called Bitter Fruit, by Achmat Dangor. I am not sure whether I like this book or not. The character's actions/thoughts are not credible in my opinion. The book is set in South Africa, before and after the apertheid years, and some things I cannot identify with or find difficult to undertand, because I have no knowledge of that life. However there are other issues - relationships, for example, or reactions, which I am finding unbelievable...
  12. Thanks Inver! That's very nice of you. Postage wise it will not be worth it though....or are you coming to Malta for a holiday?
  13. Who has an awesome one at the moment? I never feel like changing mine - it is a picture of our cat Whiskey.
  14. The other thread was getting too long!
  15. I just finished Tess Gerritsen's In their footsteps, and am really disappointed. It is not her usual style of writing, the dialogue is cliched, the clues are clumsy, and the whole thing reads like a teenager's attempt. Not recommended.
  16. I was discussing it with my friend and realised how much of it I had forgotten. It is certainly worth re-reading.
  17. That there is actually a type of container for fish called 'fish kettle' LOL!
  18. Happy Birthday Wicci!! :balloons:

  19. A re-read this time The well of lost plots by Jasper Fforde. Enough said.
  20. I would certainly recommend Tess Gerritsen. Her books should be read in sequence, although they will also work as a stand alone.
  21. Exactly Steeve. I give books away because I have a problem with storage - no way could I keep them all.
  22. Fusilli with pesto genovese for me
  23. A friend of my OH has given us a bottle of his delicious home made pomegranate wine. It is really good. Taste is slightly sweet, and just a glass is enough to make you feel reallllllllllllly relaxed.
