  1. You have until midnight - and your entry doesn't have to be too long!
  2. You have until midnight - anyone else?!
  3. I've been rather busy trying to sort out the redirect issue! I also don't want my insanity confirmed!
  4. Hmm.. I had a nightmare week, so it could be my sanity which needs questioning....
  5. I don't want this to become a debate about 'rules' etc The first 2 posts were actually posted in General Book Discussions, and it was a bit difficult to see what the poster was trying to achieve. It was moved to the Book Blogs section, as it seemed more appropriate, and would hopefully result in more discussion. The only thing we don't like to see are new members who post something, but include links to their blogs, hoping to get extra traffic there - there's not a problem posting blog content here if they want to encourage discussion here. Maybe as clear as mud, but I hope I've clarified a little.
  6. I wish I could enter this one, would love these on my shelf! Any more entries?
  7. Closing date 28th - any more entries to come in?
  8. To go with our new look, the lovely people at Hodderscape are offering a bundle of three books by Robert Heinlein, which are all being re-released later this month. Read more about each title, and see the new covers: Stranger in a Strange Land Starship Troopers The Moon is a Harsh Mistress To enter, simply respond in this thread and tell me which one of the three you would choose to read first. Closing date for this one is midnight June 28th 2015, and entries must be from the UK, as the publisher is sending out directly. Good luck, and thank you again @hodderscape
  9. Am enjoying our new look - thank you Athena + boyfriend! :)

    1. Athena

      Athena

You're welcome Michelle :), Michael and I are glad the skin received such a positive response.

  10. I would think the only way to get paid would be to write for an independent publication. There is some debate as to whether being sent a book to review can be considered 'payment', but I personally don't see how it can be.
  11. I have no idea where it's come from, but if I get up at night, I have to avoid looking in mirrors, I think I fear I may see someone behind me or something.
  12. Say Her Name was a bit scary for me because I have a thing about not being able to look in mirrors at night! I definitely need to check out the other one!
  13. I'll let you into a secret though, please don't tell Alice... our elderly cat had a wee near the book, and a little bit of it got onto the book! So, it's VERY unique!
  14. Beth won a signed version of Solitaire, and it's also doodled in - it's very cool. Alice is on twitter.
  15. I really enjoyed those 3 reviews, as I've recently read Sleepless and Glass Demon, and I want to read Frozen Charlotte. I remember reading a certain point in Sleepless, and thinking 'ah, so *that's* the direction she's going.. I like this!' The Glass Demon - I definitely wanted it to go in the opposite direction at the end, and I do agree about the sister, but overall I enjoyed it.
  16. I decided to pull together my TBR books, to see what I have - the pile on the left are the priority ones, the ones on the right come next. Of course, after doing the photo, and putting them back in various places, I found two more! Now all I need to do is not buy any more! Added: Not sure why's it's sideways!
  17. I want to try Frozen Charlotte soon.
  18. I've just bought I'll Give You The Sun. I was after a 2nd book in one of those 'buy one, get one 1/2 price' deals, and I've seen it on twitter. I'm not sure when I'll get to it, but I'm quite interested now that her writing has divided people.
  19. Nice to see you here.
  20. It's a To Be Read pile
  21. To be honest, I guess this depends on why you write reviews. Many do so just to keep a record of their reading, and their thoughts, rather than looking for comments. Some threads get more comments than others, but I think that depends on the books - generally people only comment because they've read a book, or it interests them. It doesn't mean people don't read them.
  22. Ok, so I know some of you read a ton of books in a year, but Tor UK are very kindly offering one lucky winner a new book every month for a whole year! Tor UK are an imprint of Pan Macmillan, covering Fantasy, Science Fiction and Horror, and they most certainly have an excellent selection. Take a look at their blog, to find out more: Tor Books So first the rules - to enter this competition, you must be a member of this forum, and have 10+ posts at the time of entering (sorry, but posts can't simply be 'great post', 'love this book' etc). The closing date is Sunday 28th June 2015, and it's open to members in Europe as well as the UK. The moderating team are eligible, as this is being organised just by myself. To enter, simply reply to this post, telling us a little about one of your favourite fantasy, SF or Horror books or authors - why you like it/them, who you'd recommend it/them to, etc. After the closing date, I will pull a name of a (virtual) hat, and pass the details on to the publisher. The choice of books will be theirs, but if you have a preferred genre, let me know, and I'll pass it on. Good luck, and send me a PM with any questions.
  23. I'm glad you liked that one Noll, it's upstairs on my TBR.
