  1. Well after a very windy day yesterday which finished with torrential rain, we're now having a day of every type of weather - one minute sunny, then black as ink and either heavy rain, sleet or hail, then back to sunny again. Quite dark at the moment.
  2. It takes a while to get going but I love Jamaica inn - not her best-written novel but a good old yarn anyway!
  3. It's a good series, some of the books have different titles though in the UK and US, and they've changed some of the UK editions now to have the US titles, so it gets a bit confusing!
  4. It's been quite nice here too although it was wet first thing, but sunny now though quite windy, but not as cold, but a work colleague who's working from home today says they've had torrential rain and wind. I remember when I was a child the house across the road got struck by lightning, and there was a huge hole in the roof, thankfully no one was hurt and it didn't catch fire, but there was a lot of damage and they had to move out whilst it was fixed. It's very scary, funny that the thunder sounds terrifying but it's the lightning which is really dangerous
  5. It's actually a novella, part of the wider Inspector Gamache series, but on Amazon it says it's only 98 pages!
  6. Yes I noticed that about the song titles too! We've got more rain now, it's horrible, yesterday wasn't too bad in the end, cold but stayed mostly dry but making up for it now!
  7. Well after some truly atrocious weather yesterday - I was still soaked when I got home, although it wasn't raining then, but I hadn't dried out from the lunchtime deluge - it's a bit drier today so far, bit windy but quite bright at the moment.
  8. Hideous - wind and rain, meant to last for a couple of days at least.
  9. About halfway through Logan, the last Wolverine movie - boy it's violent! Reminds me of Mad Max quite a bit.
  10. It also defeats the object of libraries if they start charging, even if it's only a small charge.
  11. Was very windy over the weekend, especially yesterday, and cold too.
  12. It's colder today and very windy, had to really battle against it at lunchtime! Hasn't rained though, thankfully. Spoke too soon - now it's raining!
  13. Karen, I agree with you about your comments (in the spoiler bit), however the situation with her mother is gradually explained, although I must admit I didn't find it that convincing.
  14. You're right re Rochester, it's Conservative, so it must have been in the council elections, but I remember it was quite a big news story at the time.
  15. Sad to report several recent demises: Mark Hollis (singer with 80s bank Talk Talk), last week Keith Flint (singer with the Prodigy) - yesterday Luke Perry - Beverly Hills 90210, he was only 52, very tragic, as are the others.
  16. Have a nice time Brian! That sounds a complicated system for such a small country, Athena! I thought UKIP won a seat in Rochester fairly recently? One of our local MPs is one of those who have left to set up the new "party", not our constituency but the neighbouring one (our borough is split into North and South), so I don't know what his constituents are doing now if they want to talk to their MP about a particular issue. Ours is staying for the moment but I wouldn't be surprised if he defects as well.
  17. Yes I'm glad the weather turned out OK too, wouldn't have wanted to do the walk yesterday! Hope it improves where you are, and there's no damage.
  18. I wasn't that made on it either, I did think the same as you initially, but after a while it just got on my nerves, and I didn't find it that convincing. A better book on a slightly similar theme, and which involves a bookshop (!) is Lost for Words by Stephanie Butland, which I really liked.
