  1. I'm the same Hayley, I have one book for commuting, which is usually lighter (both literally and in subject) and another for bedtime reading, and I try to make sure they're from very different genres, or at least different settings ie one present day and one historical. I did once have 2 books from the same genre on the go and as you say, they started to merge into one! Thought it was just me that had that feeling.
  2. Quite sunny but very windy, rained a lot yesterday.
  3. The Girl on the Train - was OK, good cast, but apart from that it was pretty much B movie stuff.
  4. He's brilliant in Still Crazy as well.
  5. Date with Malice by Julia Chapman - the 2nd in the Dales mystery series and this time Samson (a suspended Met Police officer who's returned to his hometown under a bit of a cloud) and Delilah (a local woman who has set up her own dating agency) find themselves investigating suspicious goings on at the local old people's home, where Samson's dad is one of the residents. Meanwhile he's still trying to get accepted by the locals after being away for so long, and Delilah's ex husband is threatening to sue her for custody of....their dog! On top of that Christmas is coming and, inevitably, Samson and Delilah find themselves becoming increasingly attracted to each other. Another enjoyable instalment in this "cosy crime" series. 7/10 Water Proof by Chris Crowther - this was given to me as a thank you present from a friend for looking after her dog recently for a weekend! She went to the Norfolk Broads and this book is set on the Broads, it's a cosy crime series with the main character being former Met police officer Jack Fellowes, who's now left the Force and done what he always wanted to do, ie live in the Broads, spending most of his time on the water, where he works as a Ranger. When an extremely unpopular local man is found murdered on his floating museum, there's a long list of suspects - the young eel fisherman who received a jail sentence thanks to trumped up charges, the young widow whose husband, a local boatyard owner, committed suicide after the man made him bankrupt (and who is also now threatening to force the widow out of their home), the local councillor with whom he's been having an affair and is all but blackmailing into pushing through his dodgy business deals....etc. Even the local vicar is in the frame and it's all down to Jack and the local police who try to figure out who the culprit is, even though it seems to be an open and shut case. An entertaining , gentle read with some lovely illustrations too. 7/10
  6. Dull and drizzly this morning, think it will be like this for the next few days.
  7. Had a lovely weekend, but cooler and breezier today, meant to rain a bit later in the week.
  8. I felt the same about WH as well, re-read it about 20 years ago and my opinion hadn't changed. Trying to sum up courage to read again, but as Onion Budgie said, it's a bit of a slog!
  9. Quite warm now, was muggy last night and meant to be nice over the weekend, and then get cooler again.
  10. This sounds like fun, is it a YA book? Sounds a little bit like Jodi Taylor's Chronicles of St Mary's, a series which is very popular on this forum.
  11. I've just started watching this, have got to the stunt bit, with the guy who played the Night King as chief stunt man, he's also worked on the recent Bond films. Yes Kit's reaction to Danys' death was startling wasn't it?
  12. I read Secret Life of Bees ages ago for a book group read, and agree with you - pleasant enough but very schmaltzy!
  13. I do wonder what happened to Daario though, the mercenary who was one of Dany's lovers/advisers? Last seen left behind in Meereen, I'd have thought he'd have come with the Unsullied to help at Winterfell and then Kings Landing. And the strange young man who turned up with the Starks turned out to be Robin, the son of Lisa Arryn - I was wondering what happened to him as well!
  14. Same here, although still a bit cool in the shade, meant to be a bit unsettled over the weekend though, naturally! I'm actually wearing a Tshirt today.
  15. Same here, I've been obsessed by shows before (the original X Files was probably the last one) and normally I wouldn't watch anything this graphic either, but it somehow got me, the characters I think, and the epic sweep, and the fact that a few years ago nothing like this would have been possible on TV.
  16. Roastie for me too, also egg and chips, and as a child, creamy (mashed) potatoes with peas - bliss!
  17. Correct! The 3rd part of the trilogy will be out on 5th March next year - had a newsletter from Waterstone's this morning.
  18. None of the original cast are in the prequel, except for the Night King, as apparently they will cover his back story, also the building of The Wall and Winterfell, and the start of the feud between the Starks and Lannisters. Confirmed so far according to IMDB are Miranda Richardson, Naomi Watts, John Simm and Jamie Campbell Bower (from the Mortal Instruments film), no named roles so far although they have started filming, presumably with the same crew. Yes it will be interesting to see how the books differ, although the writers have said that they followed GRRM's "vision".
