  1. HI Queens Knickers (great name) hope you're on the road to recovery now, we have a friend with Crohn's who had similar surgery to you, it's a horrible condition isn't it? Great to have you on the forum. You definitely had a weekend from hell Avid Reader, it sounds like one of those road trip movies where everything goes wrong, and it was very windy wasn't it, I was in Devon and got woken up by it all at around 3.45. Hopefully you will laugh at the memories (one day!). I only tried camping once and hated it, it was uncomfortable, either too hot or too cold, and the loos were too far away. I think it's a Marmite activity.
  2. Yes One of Us was quite good, glad TV is back to normal after the Olympics. I'm also glad that Ripper Street is back, and enjoyed the last series Musketeers, glad they all got a happy ending! Poldark soon....
  3. Hi Autumn, hope you find your reading mojo again soon, maybe you simply need a break for a while. I think Athena had some good suggestions, so hope you find your way back into reading at some point, there are lots of suggestions on here - perhaps some shorter books might help? Nothing worse than being bogged down in a doorstep of a book! Good luck.
  4. Yes it's amazing that someone that young could have written so well, a shame she didn't write more novels. I agree it's actually a sad story, I felt very sorry for the creature and admire the way he became a sympathetic figure, well to me anyway.
  5. It would put me off that's for sure! I occasionally buy from used or charity bookshops, and donate books to a friend's charity, but would only buy if it was in pretty good condition, I don't mind faded pages (inevitable with a paperback) or a bit of creasing on the spine, but nothing in really bad condition.
  6. Nice and sunny here, meant to have a mini heat wave in a few days' time, then back to normal ie rain.
  7. I agree with Athena re hardbacks, too big and heavy! I have a few, but generally prefer to wait (however annoyingly long it can be) for the paperback to come out.
  8. It's been a bit cooler here over the last few days, especially at night, but we're meant to get another mini heat wave for a few days over the weekend.
  9. The TV adaptation was on about 3 years ago or so, I think it was on Channel 4 so it might be available on their download site? Might be worth a look. Kate Mosse had a nice little cameo at the end as a tour guide!
  10. I enjoyed Labyrinth and Sepulchre, haven't read Citadel yet though. I think with the other 2 books I preferred the historical story to the modern day story, but then with timeslip I normally do prefer the historical bits. The Mistletoe Bride is a good read too, normally I don't like short stories but these are good, a mix of spooky, sad and in a couple of cases quite humourous stories too. There was a TV adaptation of Labyrinth on a few years ago but it was very clunky!
  11. Oh I loved Hill Street Blues, possibly my favourite US cop show ever, almost matched by the equally peerless NYPD Blue, did you watch that too? St Elsewhere was also another gem, the ER of it' s day.
  12. Hi FJ and welcome, I'm sure you'll find plenty of book recommendations here.

    Hi

HI Julie and welcome, good luck with the old books.
  14. It was very warm over the weekend but very windy too, bit cooler today but sunny.
  15. Yes I agree that book 6 feels a bit redundant now that the TV series has been on, although some of series 6 did cover the 4th book.
  16. If you don't think much happens then wait til you get to Book 3....and killing off characters does move things along, it's certainly a game changer for some of those left behind. I agree Book 2 is a bit stodgy, but does pick up towards the end.
  17. Thanks for putting up the blank list, Kylie!
  18. Walking on the Moon - the Police
  19. thought it was going to storm last night as it got very windy and there were some interesting, albeit threatening looking, clouds, however it all blew over and didn't rain. Not sure what it's going to do really. At least it's not so humid today.
  20. I enjoyed the book but was disappointed by the ending, I didn't guess the twist but the ending seemed fairly formulaic, woman-in-peril stuff ie she goes somewhere where she's alone with him etc, so I thought it fell apart a bit with a rather clichéd ending. would like to see the film though.
  21. Book 5 is my least favourite as well, and I think the 5th series was also pretty weak. But series 6 was excellent overall (there were a few storylines I wasn't keen on, mainly Arya's as I found it a bit repetitive) but apart from that it was great, worth watching ,especially as I think we might as well give up on the 6th book arriving before the next series! Unless he surprises us all and springs it on us suddenly.
  22. Ha ha 78 is hot for us in the UK! Quite comfortable though. Today is odd, very humid and cloudy (and windy) this morning, sunnier now but not sure how warm it is as I haven't been out yet. But it was very clammy this morning.
  23. It's still raining and, like Noll said, very muggy and clammy like a steamy room. Horrible.
  24. Same here Little Pixie, drizzly and quite chilly, back in long sleeves today!
  25. Hi and welcome.
