  1. Thanks everyone, happy reading to you too!
  2. Like that here too, sadly I don't have a dog to walk though!
  3. Been raining nearly all day today, really dreary.
  4. We need a new boiler - the one we've got is only just over 3 years old, so I'm pretty furious, but it has to be done. This must be the most expensive new year ever - I still need work doing on the car, and also need new glasses which are currently on order. So will be spending Bank Holiday Monday stuck in with heating engineers ( although I might escape to go to the local shops).
  5. The Crimson Petal and the White - Michel Faber
  6. Only 112! That's an amazing total, you have nothing to be ashamed of.
  7. I wish everyone a happy reading year, and lots of good books!
  8. Happy New Year! Mine will be an expensive one - heating on the car has packed in, and woke up today to find no heating or hot water in the house either, Stuck in waiting for an engineer to turn up, who will charge goodness knows how much for it being a) Sunday and b) a Bank Holiday
  9. We had fireworks from about 7.00 last night til about 10, then another brief burst at 11.00, before the midnight onslaught.
  10. Same here, meant to get colder again though.
  11. Hi and welcome.
  12. Hi and welcome, good luck with the writing. Jamaica Inn is one of my favourites too.
  13. Hi Shades and welcome, do you have any favourite books or authors?
  14. Finished Murder under the Christmas Tree last night - crime short stories set of course during the festive season. My favourites were by Val Mcdermid, Ian Rankin (Rebus) and Ellis Peters (Cadfael). 6.5/10 Think I'm ready for something non-Christmassy now, but wintry!
  15. I have (been ski-ing, sort of) I have never been snowboarding though (and wouldn't want to either)
  16. I think that's one of it's major points, that it's seen mainly through the eyes of a young girl? Perhaps it's more of a YA novel.
  17. Managed to hit 51 last night, so better than last year's total of 48.
  18. yes I've read the story about the dog, allegedly she hit it on the head and left it brain-damaged. Put me off Wuthering Heights even more.
  19. Alias Grace
  20. Watching the news the other night was more like watching an obituary programme, first George Michael, then Carrie Fisher, then Liz Smith and Richard Adams.
  21. Complete opposite here, we've had the heating on full blast, even overnight when it's been really cold.
  22. And the larger paperbacks are more expensive too ! Trouble is, it's sometimes difficult to get hold of the previous, smaller edition, or at least one that's in a good condition.
  23. Glad you managed to rescue the poor dog, hope he's Ok and gets claimed or rehomed. also hope you get the plumbing sorted out!
  24. Virgin Earth - Philippa Gregory
  25. Thanks Alexander, I try not to go into too much detail, it's difficult with crime novels sometimes.
