Having trouble getting into A Farewell to Arms, this is my third attempt at this book (and Hemingway is my favourite author)... For Whom the Bell Tolls it's not.
-
Primo Levi's book was amazing too. Elie Wiesel quotes Levi in his memoirs, All River Run to the Sea, "There is Auschwitz, so there cannot be God."

Wow! That's a lot is Asimov! Have you read anything by him before? I hope you like the Barker and the Bradbury! Beautiful books, I like the way you do rainbow colors Good luck with finding more shelf space

Yes! I remember because you bought some PKD and I was jealous I couldn't have anymore weight in my luggage . Still wish I had bought that beautiful edition of Dracula. Minority Report is worse than Flow My Tears, understanding wise. Still, it's short, but has quite a few characters.

Oh- Rosemary's Baby was so fun! I think A Kiss...might be my next. I don't think PKD is for everyone, and Flow My Tears is definitely a challenge. I have a thing where it's ok if I don't exactly know what is happening at the time, as long as there is a good reveal (Fight Club comes to mind). Speaking of Chuck Palahniuk, I think he has really ripped off PKD, I though Palahniuk was more original than that. Anyway.

Yesterday I purchased an omnibus of Phillip K Dick's, so far, have read Minority Report and Beyond Lies the Wub. I am finding that I need a companion to it, so I went radically different and picked A Farewell to Arms.

Btw- I did see the Trump April Fools joke -
I came across an omnibus of PKD'S work, it includes 21 stories (his stories are short) spanning his career. I am very excited about it, it includes Minority Report, which I have been dying to read for awhile now. Phillip K Dick on his work, from Foreword: "What helps for me- if help comes at all- is to find the mustard seed of the funny at the core of horrible and futile." Review: Minority Report by Phillip K Dick (40 pages) A Rubix Cube. That's what a Phillip K Dick book is like. He solves it, explains it well (but the explanation is usually a puzzle) and shocks readers in the speed in which he can end a story, and have it be so complex you might not even fully understand as his fingers move the colors of the Rubix. Minority Report, was one that went over my head. I understood it, I just don't think I got the underlying message, but the story was interesting, as I love Dick's themes. This was the hardest to understand of his 7 works I have now read. In Minority Report's dystopia, police arrest criminals before the crime. "The existence of a majority logically implies a corresponding minority." Being that Minority Report was turned into a blockbuster movie with Tom Cruise, I feel I must warn not to judge Dick by the movies (Total Recall with Arnold Schwarzenegger for example). They have all been released after PKD passed away in 1982. Also, keep in mind, his stories rarely exceed 250 pages, so making a 2.5- 3 hour movie from such novel puts me off. Have a hard time recommending Minority Report, but if you like PKD and know his work, you might want to give it a go. At 40 pages, what's to lose? I still recommended Dick, but his other novels would be a better starting point (like Total Recall, which is around 30 pages). Oh- btw, the actual title of Total Recall is We Can Remember it For You wholesale. I love his titles.

I hope so too!

Thanks! It was a great read!

I am in one screwed up world, where police capture criminals before they commit their crimes. ~Minority Report, Phillip K Dick

Today is not April 1st! -
Another night of insomnia brought an end to Phillip K Dick's Flow My Tears, the Policeman Said. There is a free short story available at Amazon by PKD and it's a good example of his work- but his material is weird and a little edgy, so (see my thread for review) be warned. Now, I still want something strange and different, so I am reading samples today.

How are things? Still reading the Sackett's?
-
I hope you do! There is a short story of his available for free on Amazon, if you have a Kindle or app. It's called The Hanging Stranger. Gaia, the more I think about this book, the more I like it. Still wish my theory had been right though . You should probably read the free short story, it'd probably take you 15 minutes
-
Shame you aren't around today, I was going to use you . I'm on the hunt for something weird and strange today, though you could help lol Have a great time in Dublin!

The Hanging Stranger by Phillip K Dick (30 pages) "There is a body hanging from the lamppost," Loyce said. "I'm going to call the cops." "They must know about it," Potter said. "Otherwise it wouldn't be there." Who was the man? Why is he hanging there? What does it mean? Recommended, free on Amazon.

Flow My Tears, The Policeman Said by Phillip K Dick (259 pages) This might be the strangest PKD to date. This is his 5th book oh his for me. From Amazon (snipped for spoiler) Flow My Tears... grapples with the many themes Phillip K Dick is known for- identity, altered reality, drug use and dystopia- Flow My Tears earned him the John W Campbell Award and nominations for the Hugo and Nebula. Me: What a mind bender! Jason Taverner is a famous TV host with millions of viewers. One day, he wakes to find no one knows who he is. Does he even exist? He's not in the database of the totalitarian Government that holds records of everyone in Terra and Mars. With no identification, his journey to find himself is begins. From the author of Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?, Total Recall, and Minority Report. Recommended, if you like weird books

It's a pretty controversial philosophy. I think you'd like it, I'm still thinking about it. I've never known another person that doesn't believe in free will. I know, right? But I'm not giving up on him, I still have some of his books yet tbr. Thanks both, for reading the reviews!
-
Thanks for reading all that review lol. I did enjoy it a ton (as you know because I've raved over it) and am so glad my reading is going well... I'm racing you with Flow My Tears

Great pictures! And woohoo for Brotherband and Ranger's (oh, spell check didn't like that!) Apprentice! You must be so happy to have them (and room!) on your shelves

Earlier this morning (see above ), I finished Ayn Rand's stunning, We the Living. Now, on to some of Phillip K Dick's madness with Gaia, a little 200 page one.
