  1. I liked that one a lot. I hope you like it too I loved the whole series!
  2. It's a little dry and the many intricacies of the way government was run makes it sort of hard to understand. I'm reading very early in Russian history in it right now (before Peter the Great) and I'm hoping it will pull together more when it gets to Peter. While I'm familiar with Russan tsars, the government is challenging to learn about. I loved WWZ- soooo good! I hope you enjoy it!
  3. I'm reading two books, re reading the third Jack Reacher book, Tripwire during the day and The Romanovs by Simon Sebag Montefiore at night. The Romanovs was a book I picked up because of a mention on here. I'm not spending that much time reading right now, crocheting and watching crocheting videos on YouTube a lot. I'm almost done with a scarf!
  4. A Farewell to Arms is the only Hemingway I've never liked, and he is my favorite author. All Quite on the Western Front is a really great book. The Girl From Krakow is a good book, so is When Paris Went Dark, both of which I read this year and are two of my favorites of the year.
  5. I would say never say never to World Without End I have to agree with 1) Harry Potter and 2) Game of Thrones they just don't appeal to me. and I have to add anything by 3) Haruki Murakami
  6. Night by Elie Wiesel is great. Edited to add: I've never read The Book Thief, but Night is a true story and Elie Wiesel is a brilliant man.
  7. I can only recommend Nicolas and Alexandra, Robert K Massie is a phenomenal writer.
  8. I absolutely loved The Cousins War series! Which one are you on? I read them all pretty quickly. Noll- my Fire won't let me double quote for some reason, the movie for All the Light We Cannot See is out here soon. The two main characters had are actually together, which I thought was cool. I started re reading the third Jack Reacher book, Tripwire, as I remembered Die Trying too much. I'm almost 30% in already, they read so fast!
  9. I started HBO's The White Queen, based on Philippa Gregory's The Cousins War series. Very good so far and I hardly ever watch tv, so.
  10. I was very sad to hear this today. His marriage to Gilda Radner was very romantic and sweet.
  11. I'm giving up on Alison Weir's book on Margaret Douglas, it's just not up to par with her other history books. Instead, I've started re reading the second Jack Reacher book by Lee Child, Die Trying.
  12. I've never read or gotten into any graphic novels. Have you ever read V for Vendetta? I've come close to reading it before and want to, just wondering if it's as good as it sounds. I finished the first Jack Reacher book, Killing Floor and started Alison Weir's The Lost Princess: The Life of Lady Margaret Douglas.
  13. I gave up on Antonia Fraser's Marie Antoinette a few days ago, it put me in a bad reading mood. I tried the Immersion Reading audio of Richard Matheson's I Am Legend but quickly became bored with it. I think it was more me than the book though. So I'm re reading Lee Child's Killing Floor, Jack Reacher book #1. The Jack Reacher books are my favorite series of books and it's going quickly, I'm back in the swing of reading again, thank goodness.
  14. I've always wanted to read 100 Years, this thread makes me want to give it a go! Edited: I forgot why I haven't, it's not released on Kindle yet. Cholera has though. That's too bad.
  15. Virginia, what's American History like?
  16. I read BBC History Magazine on my 8 inch Kindle Fire, works great.
  17. I didn't like Lord of the Flies either. I even read it twice, just to give it another shot.
  18. Lol I am an Amazon devote!
  19. Just thought I'd tell you, I started A Golden Age today- love all the culture
  20. Usually I do as well, but I want to know the details of the ending! Of course everyone knows how it turns out lol
  21. You can always check out samples on Amazon too. I love audio books, especially ones read by the author. I really like Amazon's Immersion Reading, where the audio follows the text. The audio is pretty cheap if you buy the book. And I definitely count them! There was a time this year where all I could do was Immersion Reading.
  22. God, Antonia Fraser's Marie Antoinette is such a slog! I'm preserving, but I've been at it for about a week and a half and am only at 62%! Never been so happy to be more than half way through a book before- ugh!
  23. Ooh- do you feed her raw?? I used to feed my Kerry Blue Terrier, Luka, raw food.
