  1. Talisman- I'm glad you had a good time in Prague, I liked what I saw of Krakow too. I've been following your work situation, so I'm glad you got to relax and have a good time Chaliepud- How exciting! It's good to see you around! Virginia- I was thinking of you during the coverage yesterday morning when it was hitting Florida. I'm glad you're ok! I can't believe some of the reporters!
  2. I love your reviews, I look forward to them. You might be interested in Shock by Kitty Dukakis and More, Now, Again by Elizabeth Wutzel.
  3. I think you'll like it:) I hope so too, but so far, so good, I guess. One book in by the 7th isn't great, but it's better than no books read for a while month!
  4. I'm sorry, I'm not having the best myself! It's going to see you around I've been lucky in that all the books-except for a few- have been really good. But think you'd really like The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah. When Paris Went Dark by Ronald C Rosbottom was definitely one of my favorites. You might also like The Pact by Jodi Picoult. Have you read anything by her before? I hope you like it if you get around to it! I could barely get get through BBC History Magazine! I didn't get to The Queens Fool because I thought the premise was stupid and I couldn't get into The Other Queen, but I read the rest of them. They were good, but not like The Cousins War series. I did like Three Sisters, Three Queens though (her latest, a stand alone).
  5. Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell (322 pages) This book is a great little YA romance. I stepped out of my normal fare and took a chance on it after a rare spontaneous buy during a Daily Deal. I've always wanted to read something by Rainbow Rowell and this was a cute book. It's the 80's and one day, high school sophomore Park is sitting in his seat on the bus when a new girl- in boys clothes and strips of cloth in her hair- climbs aboard and looks for a seat. Harassed by the back of the bus for looking so different, Eleanor is angrily told by Park to sit down and he begrudgingly slides over in his seat. Thus, begins the story of Eleanor and Park. Rowell gives us two characters that immediately draw you in. Written in short chapters and sub chapters, each one is from the perspective of Eleanor or Park- but not in their voice, which is unusual but worked. The story isn't uneventful, but isn't knock out oh my either. I enjoyed it a lot though, it got better and better as the book went along, really sucking me in in the last 20%. I hated the ending though. Definitely worth $1.99.
  6. After the disastrous Philippa Gregory novel, The Virgin's Lover (Tudor Court series book 5) I managed three more books in August, giving me 5 books and 2,385 pages read for the month. I slacked off on reviewing those three books (The Girl On the Train and another Philippa Gregory book that was awesome, Three Sisters, Three Queens and a 're read of the first Jack Reacher book). I didn't review TGOtT because I felt I couldn't without giving something away. I really liked the book though. Then came September and I just. couldn't. finish. a. book. I tried many I liked and every trick I could think of- short chapters, re reads, history, etc. Today I finished my first book since the end of August and it took me 4 days. Here's my review:
  7. Congratulations on the play! I didn't finish a book in September, I know how you feel. Don't be such a stranger!
  8. I never answered you about The Swiss Family Robinson! I liked what I read. Currently, I'm not able to finish a book or seem to read more than 50 pages a day. But it followed the movie quite closely (although there is a fourth brother). I loved reading the descriptions of what happened in the movie, in the book. My brother and I must have watched that movie 50 times! Since I can't seem to finish a book (above), I started Rainbow Rowell's Eleanor and Park this morning. It's off to a good start, I bought it on a Daily Deal a few weeks ago. Also getting a new Paperwhite today.
  9. He is a great writer! You might like For Whom the Bell Tolls. It's got more action. Congratulations! I hope you enjoy it!
  10. That is a massive storm! I feel so bad for Haiti. Stay safe!
  11. Ya, but usually I can pick out one or two that I know from you
  12. Oh I still have 100's of books Except for samples (which are my TBR books) I "buy as I go" too. And I never buy unless I've read the sample.
  13. Fight Club is one of my favorite books and movies Some books that you might like (but to have that level of violence is unique) The Sisters Brothers by Patrick deWitt American Psycho by Brent Easton Ellis Man In the High Castle by Philip K Dick A Scanner Darkly by Philip K Dick Thinner by Stephen King I like most of Chuck Palahniuk's books, they are always twisted. It's not violent, but The Handmaids Tale by Margaret Attwood is a good one Wool by Hugh Howey The Long Walk by Stephen King The Lottery by Shirley Jackson Good luck, happy reading! By the way, we'd never make fun of your English Edited to add: World War Z by Max Brooks
  14. I saw the preview of this at the theater Friday, glad to hear you enjoyed it- I like Bradley Cooper a lot. We saw The Magnificent Seven with Chris Pratt, Ethan Hawke and Denzel Washington. Was so good!
