  1. Someone else just recently gave that one up too. Kinda glad I didn't read The Shinning just to read it. Almost done with NOS4A2 by Joe Hill. Loving it. Took awhile, but now I am totally into it. I love when King and Hill have a female protagonist (Barker does a good job with that too). 1492 is slow going, just spent about 50 pages on what was going on in Spain (boring, no offence but I already know quite a lot from the period, just by reading world history), but now getting into what was up in Africa at the time. Kinda funny but NOS4A2 is about 600 pgs while 1492 is about 350.
  2. The songs were terrible! Especially U2's song for Mandela. I'm glad they didn't win "just because they are U2", ya know? I was a little surprised Sandra Bullock didn't get Best Actress for Gravity, after it seemed the darling of the Academy. Glad to see 12 Years a Slave get attention and hardly anyone knew Brad Pitt was in it, credit to him for not showing off. Got the results of my college assessment. As I guessed, I scored high in reading comprehension (97%) but terrible in math- won't even give that score! Sentence structure I didn't get so high in (80%), because I didn't really understand how they wanted the sentences completed at first. Plus, everyone sorta has their own way of writing, so that was confusing. I can take that one again though and I know I can do it better. If not, I have to take TWO basic English courses until I can take some of the fun ones. I can't wait to take the short story one offered!
  3. Just started NOS4A2 by Joe Hill and I think I'm going to take up 1492: The Year the World Began by Felipe Fernandez- Armesto. It's about what was going on all over the world in 1492. I'm only into the samples so far, but I'm liking them both. I don't usually read two books at once.
  4. Rooting for Jennifer Lawrence and American Hustle for the Oscar... Academy Awards on now!!
  5. My mom is over for the Academy Awards. She is making her spaghetti and we are having fresh sourdough bread. YUM. Oh- and some local champaign.
  6. Finished The Six Wives of Henry VIII by Alison Weir and I think I am going to start 1492: The Year the Four Corners of the Earth Collided. I also just picked up the latest BBC Magazine, which I love. Oddly, the main piece is on the six wives of Henry VIII!
  7. oooohhhh! Another read- a - thon! I might do a Lee Child book or two. I'm sure I will be done with The Six Wives of Henry VIII by then. I might start 1492 too though.
  8. It is my favorite book of all time.
  9. I am looking forward to Last of the Mohicans- it is on my TBR list for the year. Welcome!
  10. That was a great book.
  11. Finished Elizabeth of York by Alison Weir tonight. I thought it would take longer but the last 15% of the book was pictures, household names, further reading, etc. This was one of her best (although she never lets me down!). It gets easier with each book, as I learn who is who in different courts. Might start on her Six Wives of Henry VIII next.
  12. Was curious to read what you thought of Allegiant! Glad you liked it.
  13. Going for my college assessment test today. Not worried about the English part but geez, the Math sample is killing me! I'm sure I'll just get a basic score. Nervous! I want to take a fun English course for my first so I have to do well on the assessment, to test high enough to not have to take a basic class (like I will have to do with Math- yuk).
  14. I have a major crush on Jack Reacher from the Lee Child books- I don't even try and hide it lol Without Fail is my favorite so far. But absolute adore Sherlock Holmes too, I just love his personality. I loved A Scandal in Bohemia from the The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes. I also liked Karen Fossom's Inspector Sejer, he is a real "Inspector" type, solving modern crimes the ol' fashioned way. The Indian Bride is my favorite of the series that I have read so far.
  15. Still reading Elizabeth of York by Alison Weir. Loving it.
  16. 3 Days to Kill with Kevin Costner. Terrible. Badly written.
  17. Now that I know and understand the word "Erudite", I read it everywhere! How man times have I missed this word?
  18. Finished Go Ask Alice. I DO NOT agree with "banning" any book, but I can see why this one was. Although the people banning the book always seem to miss the actual message. This is a harsh diary entry filled account (some say fictionist) of a 15 year olds struggle with High School and boys but mostly with hard drugs and bullies. It's author is listed only as Anonymous. And now for something completely different, I just started the kindle sample for Alison Weir's Elizabeth of York: A Tudor Queen And Her World. I've been waiting while for it, although it came out only last December, I heard about it awhile longer. Makes me happy for my Kindle... if I take it on, its a 600pager. From Weir. It will take me into March, I'm sure.
  19. Me too- but it is already dark and heavy. It's always on those "Banned" lists or "Should Read" lists, so I picked it up. It's a teenage diary of drug abuse. The author is unknown.
  20. The trailers for the movie look good. I hope they do it justice, I loved the books. Comes out March 21st, in the US.
  21. I finished it and reviewed it in a few sentences in my thread. I gave it a kind 2/5 just because it is Chuck Palahniuk. I hope you like Insurgent, it was my favorite of the 3. But, I often like the middles of trilogies.
  22. Ok, I'm done reading Damned and Doomed by Chuck Palahniuk. While I loved the first book, the second, Doomed, was a let down. Even from the very beginning. Especially the ending. I hated the writing style, Don't know what was up with this book as Palahniuk (Had to learn to spell that) is so reliably good. Edited: I see some bad reviews of it on Amazon too. Glad I'm not the only one. I am beginning Go Ask Alice (Anonymous).
  23. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do!
  24. Ender's Game Orson Scott Card
  25. Woohoo! On a short overnight vacation and Catching Fire is on Pay per view!! I literally can not wait to re- watch this movie.
