  1. 647 pages!!!! I started Lee Child's 61 Hours this morning, but today might be kid of busy. 61 Hours is 500 pages.
  2. The Poisonwood Bible Barbara Kingsolver, 570 pages, 563 kindle pages Rating- It was ok, 3/5 From wiki, cause I can't copy from Amazon: The Poisonwood Bible (1998), by Barbara Kingsolver, is a bestselling novel about a missionary family, the Prices, who in 1959 move from the U.S. state of Georgia to the Belgian Congo. The Prices' story is narrated by the five women of the family: Orleanna, the long-suffering wife of Baptist missionary Nathan Price, and their four daughters: Rachel, Leah, Adah, and Ruth May. This book is always on those "50 best book" lists or whatever. This book is one on my TBR list for the year. Let me just say, it took a good 150 pages for me to get into this sucker. I'm not a big fan when stories are told through a series of narration from different characters point of view- ie, Allegient is a good example (although, I did like it). Kingsolver does a semi-good job of keeping 4+ the mother's voice separated as she bounces back and forth between each sister and the mother. I seem to have expected more of Kingsolver after reading much of her novels (Bean Trees, Animal Dreams, Pigs In Heaven), plus it appearing on so many lists. After reading it, yes, it was worth it to stick it out. Make lists? No.
  3. Finished The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver. 550 pages and I read... 275 in 3 days. I really need to start keeping how long I read during these marathons! Oh and I read about 15 pages of Jack Reacher 14, 61 Hours in about 20 mins.
  4. My brother was bullied so bad , he was home schooled from grade 4 through High School. And back then, there was no social media to contend with. 12 is so young. So very young. I'm so sorry.
  5. I'd have to agree with Eternal Sunshine for mine as well. Star Wars V (1980) Moulin Rouge (2001) Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004) American History X (Edward Norton, 1998) The Score (Edward Norton, 2001) Italian Job (2003) The Corpse Bride (2005) Singing In the Rain (1952) Into the Wild (2007, Sean Penn directs Emile Hirsch) Fight Club (1999)
  6. I read about 200+ pages of Barbara Kingsolver's The Poisonwood Bible Friday and today. It's a biggie- almost 600pages. I'll probably read some more tonight, finish it either tonight or tomorrow.
  7. Doing the read-a-thon and am 85% through The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver. It took a good 150pages to get into though.
  8. Divergent was terrible.
  9. Exactly. Here in California, we are so close to Mexico, there is a ton of Mexican cuisine. Margarita's are a big deal Taco's, Fajita's, Burritos and Corona beer. I was lucky enough to travel 36 states of the US and it's true- we have some pretty awesome food! We didn't eat at one chain restaurant and loved every bite. (BTW Virginia- South Carolina was our favorite state)
  10. A cold Corona with lime and a bit of salt
  11. I'm in sort of a slump right now. I just can't seem to find anything that just grabs me. I have started Barbara Kingslover's The Poisonwood Bible and I like it, it's just not the easiest book to read, kinda takes some concentration. Its written beautiful though. I also still have Black Hawk Down, which I haven't gotten past 30% in. And I still have Plains of Passage by Jean M Auel going on too. But none of these is a "I must get up and read today" kind of book. At least, to me. I hope you like the rest... I didn't get beyond 100 pages of The Girl Who Played With Fire! But I'm pretty sure I'm in the minority on that
  12. Gallimaufry- A confused jumble or medley of things ~Poisonwood Bible, Barbara Kingsolver
  13. Looks like I can join in too! Not sure what I will read- I am currently STILL searching for a book for now!
  14. Finished Lee Child's Nothing to lose and its the first book to disappoint me out of 12 books. Sucks. I was going to read #13, but oddly, it is- or at least starts- in the first person when all the rest have been in third. I hate it so far but have a bit left in the Amazon single. I can't find an Amazon sample that grabs me. So I think I'll just hang out with BBC History Magazine today. Not much time to read tomorrow, doing a major house clean- yuck. I liked this one, hope you do as well. It differs from his other books. I even recommend this book to some people so I hope you stick with it.
  15. Good Luck- I loved it!
  16. Always wanted to read Firestarter.
  17. Ok, I broke down and decided to read a Jack Reacher book along with Black Hawk Down. BHD is just too much of the same thing- like The Plains of Passage by Jean M. Auel. So, I'm sorta reading all 3.
  18. Nope, just a Jr College, State uni after. So they don't even have that excuse lol
  19. Muggle- that is simply GORGEOUS! I get to register for college classes on Monday, but their stupid website online catalogue is so hard to understand, I can't make heads or tails of it. I called today for assistance, but they are closed for the holiday. Um... WHAT?? Easter isn't even until Sunday! And they take off two days before registration? I can't believe it!
  20. Still plugging along with Black Hawk Down. It's pretty boring, as far as books go. Only 26% through and I just can't imagine it going much longer! I'm like, 75% more of THIS? Ugh. Anyway.

Athena: YOU might think it's ridiculous, but I mostly dream of being in Amsterdam. It is my favorite place in the world and I just always wish I was there. But I am on medication that makes me forget my dreams, the Amsterdam ones are just the ones that break through.
  23. No, she has a great story behind the "splatterpunk" content, that is just an added bonus
