  1. Depending on the ending, I will definitely read the next two after this one, I like reading trilogies that way. Which would take me through mid October lol I'm really liking it so far though and I'm at 70%.
  2. I'd be interested in your review of The Book Thief, it is on my TBR and have heard nothing but good things. I've never read Fleming but recently read an article on his life in BBC History magazine. I'd like to though, would you recommend The Spy Who Loved Me?
  3. None of my friends read much. I have one friend who doesn't read at all. My dad reads like crazy, but he reads mostly detective books, which I can't share with him too much. He doesn't really understand that I read so many genres. My mom doesn't read much, but she is always interested in what book I am reading. I even got an "oh my gosh" when I told her the title of Oryx and Crake Do you read the most out of the people in your life or do you have others that read as much as you do? Do you have someone who is interested in the books you read?
  4. I'd be interested in doing a group read for Mr. B Gone, but I am going to read Horns first Perfect opportunity to scratch off another book for this year's TBR (it's the only re-read on the list) and I have "anything by Clive Barker" on the short list so it's a win/ win there for me.
  5. I can't wait!! They better be good
  6. Not rambly at all! I think the BCF members are the big readers in their families too (that might make a good thread, I might do that), people on here read like mad! Except for my dad, I only talk to my mom about my books and she cares My dad doesn't really "get" all the different types of books I read, he only reads Thrillers, all detective ones! It's kind of annoying because some of them he's been reading for years, Like John Standford, and he's on like, book 24. And I just can't read those types of books (other than Reacher, but he isn't a detective).
  7. I usually keep a document on Word, for quotes. But no, I have never wrote in a book!
  8. I do sometimes- like I always have a short story going or BBC History Magazine going with my other books. I just can't mix fiction with fiction or History with Historical Fiction, etc. So if I am reading, say an autobiography, I can read something else along with that, but it does slow down my reading. This is the first year I've tried to read 2 books at once for a long time, when I was younger, I did it all the time!
  9. Glad you enjoyed it! I know you liked Anna too, did you like this one more? edit: Just saw above post, I will read them in order too. I have read the knife throwing chapter before, but will read it with the others. I wonder if it's in the beginning or the end?
  10. Good to see you around! I'm glad you liked Where We Belong, that will be her next one for me
  11. Clive Barker, who I have been extraordinarily lucky to meet 3 times. And anyone that know me, Catherine Ryan Hyde! I am constantly recommending her! And I would be a miss by not saying Ernest Hemingway, I have read almost his whole cannon, including his short stories.
  12. Some of my favorite American authors are Catherine Ryan Hyde, Chris Bohjalian, Poppy Z Brite, Joe Hill Jean M Auel.
  13. For me, it was Behind the Beautiful Forevers (awesome) by Katherine Boo about the slums of Mumbai, The 100 Year Old Man Who Climbed Out the Window and Disappeared by Jonas Jonasson (great), and anything by Chris Bohjalian like Close Your Eyes, Hold Hands (great), Midwives (great) and Skeltons at the Feast (TBR).
  14. Can't wait!
  15. Oh wow- this is cool! I'm 1977. Most of them I haven't read. Richard Bachman- Rage (Read) Stephen King- The Shinning J. R. R. 16. It's full on fall/ Autumn here right now. You can smell it in the air- feel it, even. It's about 70 degrees and cloudy with light wind.
  17. I haven't read the shorts, yet. I hear they are hit and miss, you can't be too sure of them. Which is what I have found in Kindle shorts in general. You never know what you're going to get. I think your BF would like Personal though. And it takes place in London- bonus!
  18. What book would you recommend for a non- reader and why? What's it about?
  19. No, it's not just you I read a lot of books on the holocaust and the Soviet Gulag system. It is harsh reading, but the insight of the people writing amazes me. Especially with Elie Wiesel (Night), he is such an amazing man to me. Man's Search for Meaning by Viktor E Frankl and Gulag, A History by Anne Applebaum are simply... great. I'll just say it. With these books, I can feel the experience. And I love books that make me feel. And I do find them interesting and fascinating. I can not possibly fathom the experiences these people have gone through and I can't imagine the people who allow them, these books help me to understand "Man's inhumanity to Man", or at least, ponder the concept and frankly, the concept of God as well.
  20. I can suggest the audiobook for Carrie, narrated by Sissy Spacek. It's short and she does a brilliant job. Sounds like fun!
  21. I"m glad you are now a Stephen King convert It is a good story isn't it? I's glad you liked it as much as I did. I had the same feelings about 13 Reasons Why, and I didn't even finish the book!
  22. Title: Personal (Jack Reacher #19) Author: Lee Child Age: Adult Genre: Fiction, Thriller Pages: 369 Book #59 for 2014 I think a lot of people know that I have struggled with the Lee Child/ Jim Grant business. So let me just say, I am mostly over that now. My synopsis: In his 19th novel (there are Kindle shorts too), Lee Child again hits a home run with lead character Jack Reacher. This time, a military sniper Reacher once put in jail is on the loose. Is the newly released sniper behind the assassination attempt against the French President? Jack Reacher is on the case and once he is, you know your goose is cooked. My thoughts: Lots of action in this one, Child does not disappoint. In fact, after checking some of his claims about snipers and guns, they were right on. Child does his homework and it shows. The book flies by in a blinding pace, one you do not want to put down, but must sometimes, just to do necessary things such as refill a cup of coffee In relation to his others, and compared to my other 5/5 books of the year, I have a hard time rating this one (what else is new). But I would highly recommend it and was happy to see Lee Child mentioned in bookadayuk as a book for someone who doesn't read. I definitely give Child props for Personal and now the whole cannon (which do stand alone, so if you want to read this one, it won't matter). He is definitely a master in his craft with Reacher. And yes, I still have my Reacher crush.
  23. Just finished the new Lee Child Jack Reacher book, Personal. It was so good. I don't know if I will review it or not. Maybe. Started Margaret Atwood's Oryx and Crake this morning, based on Weave's review It was a toss up between Oryx or The Reapers Are the Angels. Edit: Ok, I reviewed it. Short and sweet!
  24. Ah-HA! I heard you were an Atwood fan! I'm trying to find a book to get into her with, I think it might be Oryx and Crake. In any case, my next read will be either that or The Reapers Are the Angels. I have just enough in the book fund for one I still might check out Stone Mattress. Anyway, thanks for the reviews, I think we like similar books Edit- I like your signature quote.
