  1. As many as 80 people had contact with the first person to be diagnosed with the deadly Ebola virus in the United States, a significant jump from the 18 cited earlier, NBC News reported on Thursday.
  2. ^^ Much higher hopes than I lol I think it'll just be the Four stories for me. But, we won't have any homework... so I'll be able to read most of Friday, all of Saturday and Sunday. No plans, just reading, *sigh* how nice
  3. Ok then, I'm the baby. I started reading Clive Barker when I was about 22, he was my first I started with The Great and Secret Show and then progressed to Weaveworld and Imagica. Still have Cabal (the book being made into the movie Nightbreed) and Sacrament on my list.
  4. I know, right? Some authors are just labeled as "horror", it's a problem I have with a lot of "horror" writers. I don't really even think of Clive Barker as a "horror" writer. I mean, sometimes he is, sometimes he isn't. Same with Stephen King. My dad couldn't believe he wrote The Green Mile and Shawshank Redemption after he read Mr. Mercedes (his first King).
  5. Ok. I can recommend against Keith Luethke's A Zombie Apocalypse short story collection on Amazon. This is a case of "don't judge a book by it's cover". I can recommend Seth Grahame- Smith's AMAZING Historical Fiction based horror novel, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Slayer, (movie is just as good) or his smash up of Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. And William Bebb wrote Valley of Death and Zombies of All Hallows Eve, both are light and fun reads. I love Zombie stuff- probably because of it's apocalyptic tendencies. I always want to mention The Thief of Always, a YA book from Clive Barker, which I will be reading to P when she is around 10.
  6. Best review ever lol From Amazon on Joe Hill's Twittering From the Circus of the Dead: Love all of Joe Hill 's work but was especially thrilled for a new short story. Woke up a 2 am, couldn't get back to sleep, read this in the dark. Terrible decision; fantastic story.
  7. Ah- mine is purses!
  8. Joe Hill has a sense of humor like his dad (King), so yes, I'd say it was intentional.
  9. All the news is talking about right now: News has hit of the first confirmed Ebola case in the United States. While this news is still breaking and developing, it appears to be a case that was after symptoms and travel disclosure of a patient in Dallas at the Texas Health Presbyterian hospital in Dallas, Texas. The patient was said to have left Liberia September 19, showing no symptoms but began to show symptoms on the 26th. On the 28th the patient began receiving care at the hospital in Texas. Specimens have now tested positive. The next steps are to care for the patient as safely as possible and then to identify all people who may have had contact with the patient and then monitor those people for 21 days.
  10. Video, short film, for MIA's Born Free. Not for the faint of heart. You know when there is a warning before hand....
  11. It's 386 pages. So should we shoot for the last 2 weeks of November?
  12. I read the one in July and have been following ever since! But your post in 2010 helped a lot! I'm just a lurker
  13. I hope to read some Ira Levin, he wrote Rosemary's Baby (which sounds nothing like the movie), A Kiss Before Dying and The Stepford Wives. I like splatterpunk, like Poppy Z Brite, some of Joe Hill's stuff has it's elements. I think Clive Barker is often thrown into this category, although I see him more as fitting the psychological horror sub genre as I do King, I like that too. If pressed, I am going to say Clive Barker is my favorite "horror" writer. But geez, Joe Hill comes up close.
  14. Very creepy! Good description!
  15. I've decided to dedicate myself entirely to Margaret Atwood's MaddAddam Trilogy. It might take me the rest of the year, but I'm going to get through all 1,347 pages. Exceptions will be a read a thon of the Four books by Veronica Roth on Oct. 3rd weekend, Horns for Horror Month and a group read with Athena and Devi of The Maze Runner (anyone want to join in? November-ish).
  16. Ya I couldn't get on with 'Salem's Lot either. If I'm recommending King, I recommend either 11/22/63 or Mr. Mercedes. People always have a preconceived notion about him. My favorite King is Thinner.
  17. Ya, that's sort of my problem with it too. If it's just a little bit or a metaphor, I can handle it. I guess that's what Kindle Samples are good for How are you getting along with Horns?
  18. Ah ok, I did get some of them, I just didn't realize how many books were in it!
  19. Ditto, I feel like I'm reading them with you all- you all are just doing the hard work There's a whole forum for this series? Good gracious! Surrre- I don't even get your current one!
  20. Ewwwww Just kidding.
  21. I can hang with that I like books and movies I have to just go along with to understand. 12 Monkey's and Fight Club come to mind.
  22. I know- I am constantly trying to get the people around me to read I even gave my friend my old Paperwhite touch.
  23. I would love it if that were the case, unfortunately, it says not available for sale. But maybe now that some of his are being released, it will be too. Thanks! I guess this will be the first I've read of his. Is it heavy on the magic realism?
