  1. Thanks! This one has been on my CRH TBR for a while now! Almost makes me want to stop my current read... but that's not that hard at this moment.
  2. Now I really can't wait to read it!
  3. This comes from the wonderful bookadayuk. What is the closest book to you? If you are near a book shelf, what's the first book you see? If you have a Kindle, do the same. First one I see is Memoirs of a Geisha.
  4. I only own one pink book and it's in my top 5.
  5. I thought this was kind of cool: From Asia One.com, edited by me, for more see: http://news.asiaone.com/news/world/solve-puzzle-book-win-640000 The American writer is offering US$500,000 in solid gold to the first reader to solve the complex puzzle in Endgame: The Calling, out on shelves today. The book, co-written with fantasy writer Nils Johnson-Shelton and published by Harper Collins, has 12 young adults from India to America decoding their own sets of puzzles on a worldwide scavenger hunt to find hidden objects and save the Earth from total destruction by alien forces. Readers of the book do almost the same: Sentences, number strings, patterns and even links to online websites are scattered in the text, meant to lead readers towards the location of a hidden "key" that will "unlock" a case of gold coins in Caesars Palace, Las Vegas. Tied in is a massive online multi-player game - the mobile app designed by Google will be out within the next two months - that allows players/readers to "fight" one another for more clues to the location of the key. "Anybody in the world can win it," says Frey, 45, in a telephone interview from Connecticut, where he lives with his family and runs his production company Full Fathom Five. "We will know when somebody has solved the puzzle and we will make sure he is in a position to get to Caesars Palace."
  6. I've reached 50% in Margaret Atwood's The Year of the Flood, part two in the MaddAddam Trilogy
  7. Last 45 miniutes of And let me just tell ya, that was well enough!! I love your movies
  8. I took 3 days off for the read a thon, but does it typically take awhile to get through Year of the Flood? Cause it seems like I should be at 50% right now and I'm only 147 pages in Is the whole series a re- read for you?
  9. Maybe if it's been that long, you could re-read 1984, but let me just say, I read it about 10 years ago and tried a re read last year- wow- I remembered much more than I thought I did. And like, 25 pages in, I thought, "I do I really want or need to read this again?" Nope was the answer It's pretty harsh (in fact, one of the more disturbing books I've read), but oh so fascinating! Personally, I'd recommend Swastika Night, really good, really well writen and came out before 1984, which stunned me while reading it because it is so far advanced (Katharine Berdekin).
  10. That sounds good- I looked it up and downloaded the sample!
  11. Ya I second 1984. It's an amazing book. I've never tried to read Animal Farm though, as for the reasons you describe- it was too hard to follow in the beginning. I didn't know it was only 100 pages. I might have to pick that up for November's read a thon. Devi got me thinking about the Night, Dawn and Day series by Elie Wiesel, so I might have a re-read of those for November as well.
  12. Me neither, but I am surprised how often Erudite comes up in the books I read. I'm wondering how many times I've read it and just understood it in context. Oh you
  13. If you want too I am a HUGE Elie Wiesel fan (Both of his fiction and autobiographical novels). I think you'd really like them. And Dawn is really interesting. Dawn is only 81 pages and Day is only 100. I think Night is...150. They read pretty fast (especially Dawn), although Night is about the Holocaust. It goes Nigh, Dawn and then Day, but I think I read Night, Day and then Dawn. He said "In Night it is the 'I' who speaks, In the other two, it is the 'I' who listens and questions."
  14. Woohoo! I hope you enjoy it!
  15. I'm back to Atwood's MaddAddam Trilogy. I will be reading Horns in the next few days, I'm kinda sorta waiting for Athena to get hers. Fun! BB, looking forward to discussing in the Horns thread, I hope you are feeling better I'm glad you enjoyed it! I just couldn't get through the first 50 pages!
  16. It's hot here. We usually go through a heat wave in late September and early November, then it's raining around Halloween. Last night, it was about 80 degrees at 9pm (28C, 21:00), yesterday, it was 100 (38C).
  17. There is a loose trilogy, but Night can stand alone. Actually, they all can. They are all about different parts of Elie Wiesel's experiences (Dawn is Fiction) and are all pretty short. IMO, Dawn is EXCELLENT, as well as the other two.
  18. Ah- I like Candor too!
  19. I don't watch scary movies. But I once got tricked into watching Candyman (taken from Clive Barker's short story, The Forbidden). Terrifying, totally terrifying.
  20. Ok ok, define your words people!!
  21. Title: Four series, Four: The Initiate, Four: The Transfer, Four: The Son and Four: The Traitor Author: Veronica Roth Genre: Dystopian Age: YA Pages: Short novels approximately 75 pages long. Page total: 304 Book # 61, 62, 63, 64 for 2014 Well, I read this for the read a thon with Athena and I have to say, it took up my whole read a thon hours. It wasn’t my most successful read a thon, but it was perhaps, one of the most enjoyable. I loved this collection of short stories, sort of a prequel to the Divergent trilogy, but I would not recommend these books to start, as the events in them make sense only if you’ve read the trilogy. However, if I were to re- read the trilogy again, I would read them first. A hindsight is 20/20 kind of thing. I remember the Diverent trio flying by. And this one did too. I spent 2 hours on the book and got to 62% on the first day (Friday), spent an hour the second day and got to 78% and then finished up today, the third day with 45 minutes. It was a good read- well, worth reading. So yummy in fact, I could have easily read this book in one day, but I wanted to space it out. Recommended to Divergent fans. Not for first time Divergent readers.
  22. Ya I was just going to say, I would hate to have those types of people in my life! I do have one person, that thinks they know everything. It is extremely annoying. I can't even make sun tea or clean a cookie sheet without him correcting me. It's awful.
  23. La la la la la I can't read this til I am done in about an hour or so!
  24. We are taking my daughter to the pumpkin patch today to pick out a pumpkin (or 3 or 4 lol) for Halloween. They have a bunch of blow up slides and ladders and such to play on. After, I think we are taking her to a pizza place with tons of games that kids like around here. Should be tiring, but fun (or not )
  25. Oh no, I thought it was hilarious!
