  1. Oh dear, I only noticed that the read-a-thon was standing yesterday, so I only managed 1 hour! Happy reading everyone this weekend
  2. I’m not really good at concentrating reading at the moment, so I’m now listening audiobooks. Enjoying #2 Amelia Peabody series Curse of the Pharaohs.
  3. I’ve now found my Winter themed book for next weekend Tove Jansson - A Winter Book Laid back Camp - Afro (manga, girls camping trip in Winter) A Big Book of Christmas Mysteries ( crime short stories) EDIT: C S Lewis’ The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe is added the TBR list too.
  4. Yay! The read-a-thon is back . I have a selection of books, with a Winter/Festive theme.....
  5. Picked up this one at the library this morning - Sunny Side Up: a story of kindness and joy by Susan Calman. I loved her first book (Cheer Up Love: adventures in depression wth the Crab of Hate) last year.
  6. Tinsel Town in the Rain - The Blue Nile
  7. I’ve been trying to get into The Murderer’s Ape - Jacob Wegelius so months, but it’s only now that I am getting into the novel. It’s a slow burner, and with 640 pages it will take a loooong time! So I’m reading a couple manga books for lighter reading, and my favourite manga is Laid-back Camp by Afro.
  8. I bought Kafka on the shore - Haruki Murakami and My Family and Other Animals - Gerald Durrell in the Audible black Friday offer, £2.50 each.
  9. Mother and Child Reunion - Paul Simon
  10. Finished Company for the Evening by Ursula Orange last night. Well, the ending was such a disappointment! . I’m miffed, as the book was really good, but then the narrator changed her character dramatically, in such a silly way... . Finished Flying Witch Vol. 3 - another enjoyable slice-of-life manga, of young witches in rural Japan.
  11. Finished Sweet Bean Paste by Durian Sukegawa. Loved it! Definitely a bittersweet novel, and it actually made me cry........which is an unusual experience with reading.
  12. Kindle Daily Deal UK today for 99p - Jodi Taylor What Could Possibly Go Wrong?( The Chronicles of St Mary's #6)
  13. I remember enjoying Status Anxiety about 5ish years ago, though I have just looked on m,y Goodreads, but I only gave it a 4 out of 5. I think that I had been slightly disappointed in ST, because I had so loved Consolation of Philosophy earlier. .
  14. THE DANCING BEAR by FRANCES FAVIELL Free (for this week, I think) for Kindle edition. Berlin during the decisive years from 1946 to 1949. … The prostitution which paid so handsomely; the black market which brought in rich rewards, although it meant that the Berliners had to part with treasured possessions; the night clubs which catered for still baser tastes; the impoverished intellectuals and the starving professors and the poor who had only their wits with which to eke out a bare sustenance—all this and much else the author describes with insight, incisiveness, and realism.’ TIMES LITERARY SUPPLEMENT
  15. Trying to finish reading Sweet Bean Paste by Durian Sukegawa.
  16. Cup of coffee, and a warmed mince pie (with Viennese whirl topping) - just heavenly
  17. I bought Hot Pastrami and Out of the frying pan, into the choir (both are hardback too!) this morning . Yay!!
  18. Substance: Inside New Order by Peter Hook
  19. Finished manga Laid-Back Camp (Laid-Back Camp #1) by Afro. It was a sweet manga, very cute characters and illustrations; very much "armchair travelling/camping", for me . So I( bought the Kindle 2nd of the series. EDIT and #3 and #4 later on...
