  1. Same here! Am recording the series [thought it may be tosh, and of course it sort of is, but the best kind of watchable tosh.] Same here, Bake off and then Strictly, followed later by Downton. Perfect night's viewing.
  2. Yeah right! [as you say in the US!] He finds the sandwiches under stones hey? That's what he tells you. What is Pu Erh tea, pray tell? My ginger biccies have arrived, likewise the fruitcake, so Calypso and me are having a little snack right now on the beach. It's a lovely day here, warm with a slight breeze and calm sea, I may do some fishing later. I now need, A set of bone china mugs [i broke the only mug yesterday] so I would like a set of 6, lemon coloured with little flowers on them] demerara sugar [a small sackful] a skipping rope as I am getting out of condition with all the lazing about.
  3. Right! Ha-ha, I assumed that you were from US. However [this is interesting] I think that you write with a 'British' tone, I don't know how else to put it, but that you didn't sound American somehow. The $ signs confused me.Well, the Wensleydale made here costs about £7 a kilo.I don't know how that compares really. I always buy 2 small blocks at a time, which costs £ 3.50 each block is 250 grams, and it's £3.50 altogether, for the 2.I think the UK produces more [as in different] cheeses than any other country, there are just loads. So, how are things in Hobbit country as regards, milk and cream, they should be cheap?
  4. A full English breakfast!! That's fried lean bacon and fried egg with a slice of fried bread [Heaven] and fried sliced tomatoes, with toast and butter and a large mug of tea, ahhhhh!
  5. I have! [just once, when I went in to make an appointment, then turned round and left again, feeling smug.] never have I been to the opera
  6. ....if I shouldn't have another large slice of carrot cake [i'm going to anyway!]
  7. I'm sure that cheese with jam is yummy, in fact I must try it for myself soon. Also, you say that your wizard is ace at 'finding' sandwiches?Well, I will have you know that I made a plate full of cheese and onion pickle [chutney?] sarnies and turned my back for a minute, and guess what? They were gone!! I did hear a faint chuckle but could not see anything, so Rincewind is now in the habit of visiting other Islands...... just letting other folk know this
  8. wow! I am totally shocked Poppy, by the price of the cheese. It's cheap here [even the one with cranberries in, which is delicious by the way.]Of course, it is made here so no import expense.I have not heard of colby cheese, is it a type of cheddar?Tell me about cheeses in the US? What are the main ones called? Here in England some faves are..... Wensleydale [Yorkshire cheese, pronounced Yorksher] Double Gloucester [pronounced Gloster] Red Leicester [pronounced Lester] Cheddar [from Somerset] Now I want a few kilos of cheese sent to me on the Island, with a large box of crackers to go with them [do you call them crackers too?]
  9. Right, well I know I can get a J Vance book on my Kindle then if I want one, so good to know that. I do read most of my books this way these days, but I prefer any non-fiction as an actual book [i like to look through and check things a lot and find that easier with an actual book.] Novels are fine for my Kindle though.I used to be a 'doubter' about the usefulness of e-readers but am fully convinced by them now, and take mine everywhere.
  10. This thread, although interesting, just highlights the fact that 'One man's meat is another man's poison'
  11. They do sound like books that teenage boys would love VF and maybe slightly older men too, but just on the reveiw alone, I think these books may not appeal to women [or women over 30 shall we say. ]The revenge theme alone is off putting, and for me, the exotic names too.Do you find that on re -reading [as you say you read them as a teenager] you like them as much?We do all change our opinions of books as we get older, sometimes liking them more and sometimes less. They do seem like good old escapism books though, as there is no reality [well, our own reality I mean] a bit like the Spider World series by Colin Wilson that I read years ago [i would need to re-read it to see if I still thought it was any good.]Jack Vance sounds like an engaging' hero ' maybe a bit like an intergalactic Lovejoy, I will try to find the first Jack Vance book and give it a go.I wonder if these books are still in print though?
  12. neither have I [who is she?] never have I driven a tractor
  13. I dont give a monkey's if...... I don't wear this Seasons colours [or styles!]
  14. On money matters, it is best to listen to experts, then have a think for yourself of course. On other matters you have to make your own mind up according to your morals, feelings, gut reaction and what is best for you.
  15. Thanks Poppy, I did give Calypso a big hug from you [he licked my hand] yes, he is adorable and no trouble at all, unlike some of my previous companions here [naming no names!] Maybe you and Vimes could send for a pet each?I will try the Superfast Couriers in future, they sound great. Yes, My Christmas cake is pretty good [even if I say so myself! ] Can you get Wensleydale cheese where you live? It's mild and creamy [though a hard crumbly cheese.]I't a Yorkshire cheese and the fave cheese of Wallace and Gromit. The sandwich combos you mention sound awful..... and yet?Mild cheese could go well with jam, hmmmn am I brave enough to try it? Vimes, what plants are you growing? Get rid of old Rincewind, he is no use to you at all! I now need, a stainless steel teapot, chocolate digestive biscuits and 3 tomato plants [i want to grow things too]
  16. I like some apples but only the ones grown in our own garden, as although they are hard to bite into, I have noticed that sometime over the last few years that apples from supermarkets are as hard as rocks, also are pretty tasteless.I like bananas when they are yellow and black streaked on the outside, they are the most flavoursome ones.I like red seedless grapes, apricots, strawberries, raspberries. I can't eat anything lemon flavoured [even though I do like the taste] but I like a slice of lime in my G&T. I also like the red [inside] melon, pears when they are really ripe and tasty, and that's about all. For some reason I can't bring myself to eat any kind of orange, tangerine etc.although I drink fresh pressed orange juice.
  17. We all seem to think that 'real' writers write with an effortless flow..... but they don't!They do it like a job, write for so many hours, and constantly edit and tear things up.Don't give up on the idea for that reason Ian.
  18. You gotta be joking!!!! neither have I never have I been ice -skating
  19. Vimes, I like the castle idea and the odd creatures stealing plates! This could be a good children's book.
