Hi Cuppycakes, haven't 'seen' you on here for a short while [are you too busy reading?]What are you reading at the moment? I know you like English Tudor period, I have just read Revelation [the Matthew Shardlake mysteries series] by C J Sansom, have you read this? I liked the book, as Sansom is a very good author, but do think the central character Matthew Shardlake [lawyer] is also the weakest character. Also the most stilted in his speech patterns. The other characters seem more alive somehow [i have read other Shardlake books and feel the same way about him still!]I'm not sure what it is, but I don't feel much empathy there.

Oh, well, ummm, hopefully it will pass the health and safety anyway. This sounds like a job that you really don't enjoy. ........ if it pours down for the next fortnight [fed up with still having to water all the pots in the garden!] -
I remember my parents buying and reading The Kraken Wakes in the late 1950's [about 1958] and discussing it [with me eavesdropping behind a door]it sounded so scary but fascinating to a child. After that, whenever my Father was getting dressed and clumping about upstairs , my Mother always used to say with a smile 'The Kraken Wakes!' We didn't know what it meant exactly, but knew that something awful and scary was strirring. Years later, I read it, and although I liked the book, thought that Day Of The Triffids was his best book by far.

Read Queen Camilla, Poppy, if you haven'r already! Another great Sue Townsend book. Yes, mud stuck to his name for a long time because of this, he was no traitor, a really nice person. However the same cannot be said for his forceful and rather unpleasant American wife.I love his books, he was a very good writer of gentle mildy satirical stories of upper-class English life.

cup of tea and a cheese sarnie, if the buffet car is open. So thinking, he settled back in the seat happily, heard the guards whistle and the train began to move off. Someone sat down opposite him, a large man with wild ginger hair and an alarming glass eye, but on speaking seemed friendly enough 'Ow do?' he enquired ' nice to be aboard eh? That station's filthy!' Itsme nodded and smiled back at him, 'Oh yes' the stranger went on 'I can't wait to get to Leeds'. Itsme laughed thinking this a joke, [i mean, the train was bound for Plymouth, and even if it wasn't who would want to go to Leeds?]The stranger leaned forward and .......... -

Nearly all of us here on the 'Island' now have another person with us [and also a dog in my case!]So Vimes, where is your friend? You know I told you that Hugh Laurie plays Bertie Wooster? Who you didn't know, well he also plays Gregory House in House on tv. So, now, do you know who I mean? Hugh is getting a bit worried that nobody knows who he is, and he thought he was popular!I do my best to reassure him that he is loved and missed, but he's getting mopey [i may swap him later on.] So, with that in mind, a piano [so Hugh can play all his jazz stuff] 2 glasses [for our gin, we are tired of guzzling it from the bottle] and a rubber ball [for the dog, who we have now called Calypso.] -
Wholemeal bread spread with butter and Tiptree orange and tangerine marmalade and a big mug of Earl Grey tea.

I think that Everybody's Talkin' At Me [theme from Midnight Cowboy] sung by Kriss Kristophersson? is a very soulful song. so is Sittin' In The Dock Of The Bay by Otis Reading.

I have just remembered the film [for the John Barry score, see above] it was The Ipcress File
-
well, it's not actually a song, just a piece of music, Wednesday's Child composed and played by John Barry and Orchestra. It was the music from a film [in the 1960's] but I can't remember the title of the film.Does anyone know it? I also like Bridge Over Troubled Water by Simon and Garfunkel [both of these take me back to being a teen! ]Happy days!

..... and talking about hysterics [rolling about on the floor funny] has anyone seen the English version of Death At A Funeral [from 2007] There is a USA version later, but that's not great. The English film stars Rupert Graves [apt name!] Kris Marshall, Peter Vaughn, Jane Asher, Peter Egan, Keeley Hawes and othyers that I forget, but it's a truly funny flim.

Took me all of the first episode to 'get back into' Downton, but enjoyed the second one much more and feels as if I haven't been away from it now!The usual good acting, period details and interest. I record it and watch it the next day as I can't stand all the adverts.

... a little voice inside my head keeps on telling me that I must go! Itsme reached Kings Cross rail station and went straightaway to the ticket booth and bought himself a one way ticket to Plymouth, he had no idea at all as to why he must go there, but go there he must! The train was on time, and boarding it, he found a clean looking seat to slump down on. Great, he thought, hours and hours now to.........
